Hey /x/, I need your help identifying if a story/scenario that I remember hearing about is real or fictional. And once we determine that, where it came from. Can ya' help me out?
I seem to remember reading an account online a few years ago that briefly summarized the story of an inventor/engineer that I believe lived in the first half of the 20th century, such as the 1920's or 1930's. I also seem to remember him living in a rural area, such as the Appalachian Mountains.
The account claimed that he apparently had a somewhat crazy-streak, and fashioned himself into a self-styled religious-leader, or potentially even a cult figure-head.
He built a large statue of an imposing figure out of metal, which I believe he referred to as something along the lines of "The Metal Messiah" or "The Electric Messiah" in the account I read.
Apparently he prophesied that at a specific date and time down to the minute (such as at exactly midnight on August 23rd or something like that) that The Electric Messiah would come to life and would rule the world as the deity of a new age of humanity.
Obviously, that prophesied time and date came and went without incident. The account claimed that this engineer/wannabe cult-leader responded by killing himself.
Does this story sound familiar to anyone else?
Does anyone know if this was from a fictional story, or if it was inspired by a real account?
Google and Wikipedia have failed me, but I'm confident that someone may know what I'm talking about, and I'm simply not Googling the correct terms.
Can anyone help me out? Does this sound familiar to anyone else?

On the fringe of falling asleep, in like that state of being asleep but still being aware of my surroundings. Rooms totally black no lights. Suddenly start hearing what I can only describe as swords or sharp objects falling fast past my head. (Almost as if I was floating way in the air because I wasn't hearing impacts from said objects) So I hear 5 or 6 fly past then I hear on really quietly coming and it is progressively getting louder until I feel something bop me dead center of my forehead. Almost like someone tapping you really hard on the head with there finger. This jarred me awake. Who needs sleep amiright.

how often do you or possibly your parents go to the grocery store? remind yourself that the "craft" needs oxygen for them to breathe room for batteries and compressed gas to do minor adjustments to positioning like turning AND fuel to thrust
not to mention space for the astronauts . its not even like you get to use 100% of the space inside it for food and oxygen and have the pilots in flat space pockets or vice versa

What are the creepiest games out right now? Pic related is by far the creepiest I've played in a long time. It's a little too drawn out, and the ending is awful, but it's one of the best games to play with volume way up and all the lights off.
