The whole torrent thing is based on seeding, if there are no seeders the network is dead. So to support the network you should seed.
I'm pretty sure by telling you that you are retarded if you seed they mean that when seeding you are a distributer, and distributing is mostly the part that is monitored and then has you sent those love letters etc.
Though that is not saying that downloading is any more safe, it is possible for them to just set up a server and then log the adresses of all users downloading from it. But usually distributing is regarded as worse than just downloading, likely because downloading just means one unauthorized copy but seeding means spreading more copies.

seeing is important for the network to work but at the same time it's basically charity -- you're doing something good for others with no benefit to yourself
you invidually are too small worthless and unimportant to make a difference (as with everything in life), so if you stop seeding everything will still work just fine. it's like driving on public roads without paying for a vehicle registration sticker, except with no chance of getting in trouble for it
additionally, seeding is 10000x more illegal than downloading. if you do live in some area where you can get in serious legal trouble from torrenting, not seeding is safer.
the /g/ no-seed philosophy is based on "fuck everyone else, i only care about me", which is a pretty valid way to think about things
note that on private trackers you still do have to seed otherwise you'll get kicked out

If you have to keep on a single torrent for a while, do the bare fucking minimum and fuck off.

Using FreeMC Boot memory card soft mod is the only method I can think of. Usually you can find sellers on eBay that sell memory cards with MC Boot Installed already. In the US they sell for 10.00.
