Check the guides at >>>/vg/hbg if you don't know how to install the game. You won't lose any online features or anything doing so, don't worry. You'll be able to do everything that you'd normally be able to and much more!

REMINDER: If you need a rescue, post your region. Due to a few things that make no sense, rescues are region locked. It's shitty, but be sure to mention if you're European or American.

I'll admit, I really liked everyone's jerkitude in GtI.

They were grim and dark /tg/ style bad people, just jerks, and I loved them for it.
>>
>>31654038
And pokemon super mystery dungeon was going so well trying to do something similar with their characters until you leave serene village and join the expedition society and everyone is so bland and boring, like holy shit.

Yeah, the fact that everyone was a shithead was kinda motivational, if that makes sense. It's nice having everybody on the same team like in the other games, but in GtI it actually felt like a do-or-die situation from how ominous everyone was about it.

You guys are making me wish I had bought GTI when it came out. Now I have to wait until I beat Super and then a few years so that mystery dungeon stays a "special" experience.
And by that time the next mystery dungeon for gen 7 will have probably come out.

>If Pokémon can become frozen in time, how are there Pokémon in the future?
The whole idea of living in frozen time is already a bit unrealistic, but surely any Pokémon from the past would have been frozen and the future would be completely motionless save for Dialga since he's special. Maybe Dialga brought other Pokémon from different time periods to be his servants or something, and maybe that's how the player's human self got there.

>>31657245
Does time even freeze anybody? I thought all it did was freeze natural phenomenons. Maybe the freeze effect wasn't strong enough. Or the human was an outsider who could unfreeze others and made a mistake unfreezing Dusknoir.
There are a lot of unanswered questions in EoS.
>Time Gears
Where they supposed to be there at first, but everyone forgot to bring them back? Are the Time Gears a band-aid to the Time Crisis? Are the Time Gears supposed to be for emergencies and some previous crisis happened that caused them to be moved to those areas?
Human
Is the human native or not of that world? What did the human do there with Grovyle exactly? I assume the human is not native since that human was supposed to be you, I guess?
>>
>>31657245
>Why aren't the Time Gears in Temporal Tower to begin with?
When you take them back, time goes back to normal without having to return them to their original locations. So why weren't they just in the Tower all along?

The gears keep time flowing properly in the region they're in, and Temporal Tower acts like a Time Gear to places that have no gears. The way I see it, there might have been gears in Temporal Tower that Darkrai removed (since the game does say he tampered with the Tower, but not HOW he did). So when the gears you removed are placed in the Tower, they fix up the locations where those gears came from. Basically, the Time Gears are just backups for the Tower since the area gets fixed as long as Temporal Tower is working right.

>If Pokémon can become frozen in time, how are there Pokémon in the future?
The whole idea of living in frozen time is already a bit unrealistic, but surely any Pokémon from the past would have been frozen and the future would be completely motionless save for Dialga since he's special.

I think the game mentioned that only the region EoS takes place in went completely motionless, and other regions simply had time stop but didn't get frozen in time.

My 2 cents

Im playing Explorers of Sky and I have this outlaw mission where the floor it is on is one giant room with nothing else.

I keep fighting everything I see but nothing pops up. Is it invisible? If so, kind of silly since you dont see Eyedrop Seeds this early in the game (Waterfall Cave)
>>
>>31659203
Did you get a message saying "But where's the target?" when you entered the floor? It hasn't happened to me, but apparently that means you just complete the mission and you'll have to try again another day. Don't know why they put that in the game.

I feel like the location the future takes place in is poorly explained. Based on geography it seems to be the Hidden Land. However, we know that Grovyle and his partner must have wandered around the Grass continent learning the locations of the Time Gears. So how did they go back and forth between the spots? Why doesn't Grovyle know about the Hidden Land's location when he must have been able to find it before?
>>
>>31661013
Celebi is weird in that it seems she can travel through space as well. Or she at least takes the full time to travel somewhere but she isn't conscious of it. Also the Porygon that can teleport you to the frozen island could very well send you the the Grass Continent. All it would take is one that believes in your cause.

I think we can do it by modifying the file with the moves, it shouldn't be hard. I wonder if other stuff like stats grows are fine though. I guess it would be better to replace the model, but I'm not sure how to do that, as I've never extracted them in the first place.

>However, we know that Grovyle and his partner must have wandered around the Grass continent learning the locations of the Time Gears.
>So how did they go back and forth between the spots?

I'm assuming they (as in, the group Grovyle mentions in the special episode that investigated everything) split up and searched different locations, maybe one group taking the hero with them and other times Grovyle is with the hero in locations we know of (Fogbound Lake and Azelf's dungeon) and then traveled back by meeting up somewhere to discuss everything.

>Why doesn't Grovyle know about the Hidden Land's location when he must have been able to find it before?

Grovyle doesn't know about the Relic Fragment and how it leads to the Hidden Land.
I'm assuming they focused more on finding the gears more than the end location. Or maybe the hero's Dimensional Scream left out that part about the Relic Fragment.

Since all the shit in the future in EoS is ambiguous, what do you think should be canon and/or what's your headcannon?

There may be several contradictions.
Canon: [spoilers]=headcannon:
>The human was involuntarily summoned from another world by Cressilia, who was dying and had given up her fading life to get you here.
>You gained the Dimensional Scream from Cressilia, which not only helped you find the Time Gears but also allowed you to falsely predict any danger that could threaten you (because your well-being is technically related to the Time Gears, though it probably doesn't help anyone else avoid danger not affecting you).
>Your powers don't make you invincible, however, since apparently you need a trusted partner to use it and being a load forces you to trust anyone who hasn't raped and/or decapitated you yet. That partner was at first Celebi, but you later learn to trust her companion/boy-toy after seeing how devoted he is to protecting you. Dusknoir may or may not be in the group and later betray you he does betray you, but not because he wants to live, but because he wants to make you his bitch, but loses interest when you become a Pokemon. You become best bros/reluctant acquaintances with Grovyle since Grovyle finds your improvision with items to be useful/disastrous, and is the reason why Grovyle managed to overload a Luminous Orb into a makeshift flash bomb by learning from your recklessness.
>The adventure takes place on the Grass Continent, where you deal with all sorts of unsavory characters, including the delirious Lake Trio.
>The Time Gate you go into is not located in the Hidden Land, but somewhere in the Grass Continent, since you never find out how to get to the Hidden Land.
>The human becomes a Charmander who is reckless and unintelligent and is successful mostly by luck.

The next Mystery Dungeon should have a vaguely medieval setting, with conquistador explorers and a goofy king instead of a guildmaster.

Y/N?
>>
>>31673930
You could still have a guildmaster and a king. Heck, why not have you and the partner become successors of the former guildmaster?

PMD's technology level is ambiguous, because it is all dependent on the species. If there are fiery Pokemon and strong-arm Pokemon, there is probably smithing. If there are Pokemon that can farm (Harvest, Rototiller, Recycle, Natural Gift), then there is farming, however farming is pretty much the establishing thing of a civilization. However, technology may be irrelevant if all that matters in a Medieval theme is its politics, culture, or economics. Since this is a PMD game, the Medievalness must be kept G-rated and be of a "Noblebright" theme. I assume that the fantasy elements will be kept intact.

The technology of the Mystery Dungeon series has never really exceeded medieval levels, apart from entercards and connection orbs, which could probably be considered magic just as much as advanced technology. Smithing is probably used to build metal fixtures and the like, and I'm fairly certain that I've seen bits of metal used in some in-game buildings in Super. Agriculture is definitely a thing, and is also something that, based on the berry patches in GTI, anyone capable of putting seeds in the ground can do. A "G-rating" in medieval fantasy is pretty easy to keep, if children's television is any indication. Noblebright medieval fantasy is a pretty common setting, really. It's just not something that's been applied to Pokémon.

Wrote a dungeon-drawing algorithm. It uses a small bitmap full of different tile arrangements represented by 3x3 pixel squares to find an arrangement that matches each tile and then multiplies the coordinates on the smaller bitmap by the tile dimension to get the proper tile on the larger bitmap, adjusting for if it's a hall or a floor

The small teal lines and slight tile overlap in some places are where I fucked up making the tile bitmap, not anything wrong with the code

Here's all the tile templates it uses. I might have missed some but I haven't found any missing yet

The white pixel is the tile you're drawing, black pixels are tiles that are the same passability (a wall and a wall) as white, pink are opposite passability (a wall and a floor), and green are tiles that can be either

HOW TO PLAY DS GAMES ON A 3DS WITHOUT A DS CARD

Before starting:
You need to have installed a CFW.
The easiest and best way to do that is to follow http://3ds.guide
It works on every 3DS model and every system version at the moment. This may change in the future, so you better do it as soon as you can.

Download the latest TWLoader release
https://github.com/Robz8/TWLoader/releases
(click the first "TWLoader.7z" link)

In TWLoader.7z you'll find a folder named "sdroot" that contains another folder, named "_nds". Extract the "_nds" folder to your SD card. Don't put it in any folder: it needs to be in the root.

Choose a folder in your SD card and extract the following files:
TWLoader.cia
TWLoader - TWLNAND side.cia

Download the latest bootstrap.nds
https://github.com/ahezard/nds-bootstrap/releases
Rename bootstrap.nds to release-bootstrap.nds and put it in the "_nds" folder in your SD card.

Create a folder named "roms" in the root of the SD card, and inside the "roms" folder create another folder, named "nds".
The "nds" folder is where you put your DS roms and savegames.
Put Mario Kart DS in there. This is required in order to be able to use use savegames without a DS card. Other games might work, I have to look more into this.

Now put the SD card back in your SD card and launch FBI.
Select "SD" and then the folder you chose. Select "TWLoader.cia" and "TWLoader - TWLNAND side.cia" and install them.

Go back to the Home Menu and launch TWLoader.
>>
IMPORTANT:
If you launch a game you can use a card to store the save, as long as it is a card of the same type.
This also means that YOU MIGHT LOSE THE SAVE OF THE CARD INSERTED IN YOUR DS. If you don't have a backup of your data, take the card out when using TWLoader.

Go to the TWLoader settings and press R.
Set VRAM boost to "On".
Set Bootstrap to "Release".
ARM9 CPU Speed makes use of the DSi hardware if set to "133mhz (TWL)". This means some games run better (and some other stuff that doesn't really matter in this situation). However, it may stop some games from working. When you run a new game, try both to see which one works better.
Press B.

Get the cursor on "Mario Kart DS" and press the Select button.
Select "Set as donor ROM".
Press B.

The TWLoader setup process is done. Now you can launch it and choose the game you want to play.
A lot of games don't work at the moment, but nds-bootstrap is constantly being improved.

If you have a DS card and you want to backup your saves, you can do so with TWLSaveTool (or FBI). You should be able to use saves from an emulator as well.
You can also backup your own roms using decrypt9.

Blue Rescue Team runs almost perfectly. The same goes for Shiren DS.
Explorers of Sky has a few problems. It slows down a lot whenever it's loading an animation. Walking/running in a dungeon works fine, but whenever something actually happen it stops for like 2-4 seconds. Loading a new floor is really slow. It takes a few seconds to load. It's playable, but definitely annoying.

Aside from one attack hitting a few pokemon, they're not very good. The best it'll get is Groudon paired with a sun team. Not even PMD can make an eternal shitmon like Onix good

Remember, no one in the Voidlands is real. The writing on the walls said everyone is just a phantom. Them getting void'd or whatever probably just meant that they couldn't save themselves like the main duo could. Their actual bodies were still on the mountain. At least, that's how I saw it.

>>
>>31697646
fuck, i miss the friend areas, it was literally your own mini pokemon zoo, and the fact that Super had getting all of the pokemon as one of it's biggest selling points yet you're only able to see them in a dungeon was pretty dissapointing, at least GTI had the pokemon that you recruited just walking around your base.
>>
>>31697646
But Super came after Gates.
>>
Is there any point in playing Gates? I heard it was the worst PMD game.
>>
>>31697646
A second story was a good trade off for friend areas, and Super is essentially post game: the game.
>>
>>31697914
The story is great and the characters are very well developed. It's disliked for its almost non-existent postgame and lack of pokemon variety with only 144 recruitable. Some people are also bothered by the slow text speed that can't be changed. It definitely lacks replay value, but as someone who doesn't play much past the plot, I enjoyed it.
>>
>>31697762
Wooper gets no weaknesses through a swap item, prevents explosions, has two great abilities, a great IQ skill set, and is adorable.

You're not going to get it before postgame, but Drifloon's line is the most overpowered line in the game.
>>
>>31697914
It's the best PMD story and the worst PMD gameplay tied with rescue team, with close to 0 postgame content.
It's still worth a shot playing it since it has a lot of interesting mechanics such as dungeon mysteriosity, co-op boss batles and building your own pokemon paradise, but if you can't be bothered to buy a game with less than 30 hours worth of content then you should watch a LP of the game, that way you still get to see the story.

Mild criticism, hallways seem too straight. I'd stay away from shit like pic related though
>>
>>31657245
the gears are a failsafe in case the tower is damaged, which it was. time should have started going to shit everywhere when it was damaged but the time gears can keep time running just fine locally as long as they're in position and the tower hasn't collapsed completely. taking them when the tower was operational wouldn't have done anything. the reason time stops completely when they're removed is because the tower is damaged. they stay far away and spread out so that they can't be captured with the tower in one fell swoop. the reason they stayed at the tower when you put them there is because they needed to be there for as long as the tower is being repaired, something that finishes outside of the course of your playtime/lifespan.

in the ORIGINAL timeline where darkrai destroys temporal tower, there is no grovyle to steal the time gears, so they stay put. with just time gears and no working tower, the time gears have the power to keep pokemon going but not everything else. darkrai allows the time gears to keep pokemon active because he feeds off of their despair. this is the timeline you travel forwards in time to, as the future seems not to update at all until you actually fit the gears into the tower.

The (archives of) UPC site says this (on the image) is the damage calc for Rescue Team.
(http://upcarchive.playker.info/0/upokecenter/content/pokemon-mystery-dungeon-damage-calculation.html - this is the page)

I've plugged numbers and:
Test 1: Flame Wheel Lv. 100 Smeargle vs. Lv. 4 Sudowoodo. Formula: ~360 to ~463. Results: 363-463.
Test 2: Tackle Lv. 1 Bulbasaur vs. Lv. 3 Rattata. Formula: ~5 to ~7. Results: 5-7.
Test 3: Regular attack Lv. 30 Latios vs
Formula: ~67 to ~86. Results: 34-43.
Half the damage. According to our guide, regular attack damage is half. Now, UPC does not mention this at all (granted, it also mistakenly says Crunch causes cringing like Bite, but it instead lowers Sp. Def, as it does in G3 core series, while Bubble, Rapid Spin and Charm have no description at all). I am assuming the game applies half the damage as it does in Explorers.
Test 4: myfirsteverpartnertheelectric mouse. Level 47, with 84 in both Attack stats. Thunderbolt +3 vs. Lv. 18 Swablu. Formula: ~298 to ~383. Results: 298-382

Seems like this is the formula more or less. The results aren't perfect match except for levels where the range is small, so chances are any lacking values are either small errors i did not take in account or extremes that did not show up. Though UPC did not mention anything about the regular attack having half the damage and I did not test the multiplier for opposing Pokemon (which it says nothing about) so there's probably some stuff to check.

I would do it if I wasn't running out of time and having to sleep.

Yes, I did savestate abuse. No, I did not do the calculations manually. I plugged it into an online program.

In this situation however, the game asks you if you want to close it. I don't think I noticed or needed this before. I don't get why they couldn't do the same when you try to go to the other Paradise areas.
Companion mode has another problem. You can't quicksave. I assume they did it to make it kind of like Pelipper Island, but this makes no sense because you're not waiting to be rescued or rescuing someone. You have to go there if you want to use a different team in a normal mission, and not being able to quicksave makes no sense.

Sorry to ask but two quick questions about red rescue team.

1. Can only you be pokemon like cubone, machop, and psyduck or can you select them as partners as well?

2. Are there any hacks that add more pokemon you can select as the main avatar and partner?
>>
>>31701909
1. Yes, I think you can look up a list of the pokemon that can ONLY be the protag, and not a partner. but off the top of my head, you can only use the following as protags, not partners: meowth, machop, cubone, skitty, psyduck. I know I'm definitely leaving some out though so you might want to google it or look for a guide (think gamefaqs)

2. from what I remember there are no hacks for PMD (the originals, at least), but with good reason. according to an anon in one of these threads a while ago, the game was coded with unions, which has two implications: 1) they can fit more content into the game and have it run more smoothly, and 2) you can't really mess with anything from the game directly or with an editing programming, because it will pretty much collapse on itself and/or become an unplayable mess. sad, I know. I'd pay money for rom hacks of these games.

regardless, cool to see someone playing the originals, as they're definitely my favorite.

You can edit custom starters into Rescue Team but for me the game crashed every time the player and the partner are supposed to do that pose where they look at the camera and get hype

I assume because nonstarter Pokemon don't have sprites for that animation. Maybe there's a way to patch some in?

I think this particular image is from a drawthread. It illustrates a scene from Pokemon Ruby Destiny: Rescue Rangers, a hack of Ruby set in a PMD-like world. The writing is so bad that it's good, but the gameplay is so tedious and awful that it's really not worth playing. I've never seen another Pokemon hack with as many glaring balance issues, game-breaking glitches, and just bad design choices.
I'm not certain if the image has been edited or cropped, but I'm guessing that it hasn't. If I've identified the artist correctly, he(she?) usually posts art with around 500x500 as the dimensions. You can also see Tropius and Exeggutor in the background, as in Rescue Rangers, so the "hm"s are most-likely not an edit.

>tfw my favorite and buffed kecleon recruiter has halfway point at lv. 82

>weather trio needs about 2.5 million and has halfway point at lv. 58
>bulbasaur needs more than ivysaur which needs more than venusaur
>azurill needs more than azumarill but less than marill
considering I can confirm the ridiculous EXP for Azurill, it's probably right for other Pokemon, at least for Rescue Team.

So I'll ask one question.

Still need one more run.

I feel poor for people who use unevolved starters, as they seem to gravitate towards 3.5m EXP at Lv. 100, with Mudkip requiring 3.7m.

The lower end I found to be be 2.1M, though probably missed something that requires even less EXP.

I remember back when RT was still new someone had a password for a Joy Tower mission that guaranteed you like 10 joy seeds

Since the dungeon's seed is stored in the player rescue password you were guaranteed to get the same dungeon and items every time you tried it, so you could grab all 10 seeds and then leave without finishing. The game let you attempt each player rescue like 10 times or something so I ended up getting a ton of joy seeds from it

Is there still anything like that? Seems faster than grinding for levels

>evolved his starter

Western Cave/Team Hydro's maze are good to grind in.
>>
>>31721546
Western Cave is GOAT for experience.
I optimized a run to milk out as much from floors 50-59 92-98 (most Pokemon on these give 800+ EXP by default).
The regular attack penalty checks only for 'has this mon been succesfully targeted with a move?' It does not care who used the move (so things that target user like boosting moves, Rage, Future Sight, Pursuit, Spikes or Leech Seed will count)
>>
>>31721546
For reference >>31718924
Also, I suggest you get many runs through Magma Cavern or Uproar Forest. They usually have plenty of Gummis; get something to maximum (preferably your favorite as by the time you reach 999 IQ it should be pretty buffed as hell)

What's the best part of the games and why is it the fuzzy feeling you get when partner+MC do something simple that makes the partner overflow with joy?
Or is that just because I'm forever alone and yearn for something like that?
are there any other games that make you feel like that?

If that kind of thing is your cup of tea then sure.

It's just that GtI is like the Sun and Moon of the mystery dungeon games. It's fun, but infinitely non-replayable. You might enjoy the ride, but the ride does stop eventually, and you can never get that first experience back.

Currently at B67F now. Went through floors pretty fast for a while, but by the 50s it turned into a slow crawl.

Even with ezmode this dungeon is still stupid hard. It feels like Faint Attack, Shock Wave, and hail-boosted Ice moves exist solely to screw over Drifblim's evasion boosts.
