I'm amazed at how they kept the SM art style so well hidden when XY episodes were airing all year. I mean they had to start this new art styly every early by at least Febuary of this year...and back then we were just getting the Ash/Serena date episode.

Really puts into perspective how far ahead the writers are from what the audience sees. That's why Serena appearing in SM likely depends on the writers seeing how the audience reacting to the kiss scene, and deciding what to do with her if they have her appear in SM later on.

I think because of Pokemon Go and it's 20th anniversary more people started to pay attention to the anime, people that usually don't care for it. Also because of the incredible animation of especially gym battles that got posted and the fact that they made it seem Ash was going to win the league a lot of people that didn't watch the anime or that stopped watching it started watching it. They were the ones who got outraged the most I thinks. Call them casuals or normies or whichever buzzword but that's the reason why it blew up as it did.
