Azoth is the single force -- the "spiritus animatis," as Wikipedia puts it -- of humanity that drives it to attain physical and spiritual perfection. Not only this, the Azoth seems to also have a physical incarnation as the "Elixir of Life" or "The Universal Solvent," and was known as the cure for any mental, spiritual, or physical ailment. Essentially, it's liquid perfection.

Another thing of note is that Azoth's name was constructed from the first and last letters of the Latin, Greek, and Hebrew alphabets, in that order: A/Alpha/Aleph, Z, Omega, and Tau, which ties in to the "Beginning and End" motif present in AZ, and Alpha and Omega.

Additionally, Azoth is another, less used name for the chemical Mercury, which is a part of a very significant trio in alchemy, with the other members being salt and sulfur. The chemical symbols of all three can be seen within the starter Pokemon, as shown in pic related.

Origins is an adaptation of the games, but it has enough differences to make it its own canon (like all the Mega stuff), so it shouldn't be considered any more "canon to the games" than the main anime or the several manga series out there.

Generations, on the other hand, seems to be designed specifically to fill the holes in the game canon, so unless some events depicted in the shorts contradict something shown in the mainline games, I don't see why it couldn't be considered "canon to the games".

But that's probably not going to happen and in the end Generations will be just its own canon anyway.

Nope, it's mostly lore and theory cracking

I love how Sun and Moon and throwing in every magical/occult reference they can. Starters are based on the classical elements AND the chakra color they correspond to. The villain teams are based on chaos & order and are named after bones (the hard physical core of an animal) and Aether, the unseen essence of life. Lusamine looks like a Tall White/Nordic alien. The whole flower/bug dichotomy, and how SM is both more nature-themed and yet more technological than ever. "Everything comes together" as in nature and artifice all being part of the same thing. Solgaleo and Lunala seem robotic, yet they support life in the Pokemon world completely. And the narrowly-avoided apocalypse from the Delta Episode signals more chaos to come, the world are crossing into each other. Otherworldly, yet eerily humanoid aliens passing through wormholes, and scientists trying to recreate a god in Null:Type. Zygarde manifesting as dogs (humanity's favorite animal), a snake (the most mythic creature) and a superman. Wishiwashi reflecting the "solitary yet part of the whole" theme. The starters' final evolutions are more anthro than ever, suggesting a deeper blending of man and monster. Synchronization will probably be a thing.
And of course, Hawaiian spiritual beliefs adapted into a Pokemon context.

BUT Sinnoh lore states that humans ARE pokemon. Maybe in that dimension, some pokemon don't go through a darwinian evolution to humans... but evolve to ultrabeast? Expasion is the Gladion's counterpart, Beauty is the Lusamine's, etc

I think Generations/Origins are pretty much explicit expansions on the Games, and are canon to the games. Origins was literally just "FR/LG: Mega Evolution Edition", and Generations, as explained here >>28518716, is expanding on stuff we don't directly see in the games.

It's exciting stuff, because we may be getting some new Canon lore soon. First 2 episodes go up Friday.

This is true, but there's another layer to it. He's named after the Sword Lily. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gladiolus
This is in keeping with the "plants" theme naming, but it also references Lillie and the physical similarity there. Therefore, it seems likely that the connection to Lillie is extra important. His name doesn't reference Lusamine after all.

There are questions here too. Although Gladion would fit with the "strength" theme, Absorption doesn't quite resemble him as obviously in a physical sense, unlike Beauty and UB-01 with their respective human lookalikes. Ehhh, I don't know about that... A bit TOO dark for Pokémon, and there's nothing to really suggest this is the case.

HOWEVER.

I decided to look though the list of all the Mega Pokémon. Every single Mega Pokémon exists to a native Pokémon of Hoenn or Kalos. This makes sense, obviously, because these two Regions are, so far, the Regions that have had distribution of Megastones via Meteorites or whatever.

The only exception is Audino which isn't native to Hoenn at all. It's also the only Unovamon in the entire game (Despite Unova having the biggest part of the National Dex) to have a Mega. And let's not forget all the Unova teasing they had in X/Y and OR/AS.

Something is definitely up with that. I think they were planning on revisiting Unova next, possibly as a second Region in Z. Remember Wally's Globe, Parfume Palace, the Colress dialogue? I am thinking they were going to wrap up the B/W storyline, possibly revealing the Original Dragon.

But Z never happened, they skipped a year, and went straight to Gen 7. Perfect Zygarde seems to be getting carried over to S/M. Possibly Colress too. But UnovaMegas, N, The Original Dragon? We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

Battling is not as central as what the game would have you believe. It's just like any sport you can think of, most people don't even have the skill or ability to do it. I won't deny that it would still be popular, though. It doesn't make sense to me for battles to be conducted the way they are either. I think the pokemon itself should be aware of how to handle the situation. The trainer exists like any other trainer, to condition their pokemon. They have to spend ages even learning how to execute an attack properly. This is all tactical, though. I doubt everything's executed in the same manner, nor is it common across all pokemon. They all have different styles. No kid is going to just walk in and trounce everything unless they're a flipping genius.

That being said, training itself has a much more broad meaning to me as well, one that applies to all people (and pokemon). One also trains for life, for what they do. Their powers can also be used for everyday purposes, and they must learn how to do that, too. They are not limited to doing this through humans, as you might notice. They can also do this themselves. This also applies to battling. Gyms not only exist to train for battles, but they also exist to train for common uses of the types as well, and I doubt there's only one per city. There's several, maybe even tens of them, even ones for general purposes. All so people can properly connect with their pokemon.

I also doubt that pokeballs are that necessary. To do otherwise would be to imply brainwashing. Our world can be accommodated for pokemon, it has been done. There would be little need to have many pokemon at once unless your profession deems it so. Even then, I doubt you need that many pokemon at once, save if you need to be prepared for anything at any time. Not even for battles, as a regulated environment would limit how many pokemon can participate at once, if there even is such a thing as an all out battle royale.

Obviously, I think pokemon are no different than we are, save from what they think a home is. I totally think our world should allow both humans and pokemon to work together. How do we prevent them from outclassing us? Like all of us, they are only good at certain things. They may be a living power generator, but that means nothing without somewhere for it to go. Pokemon may be able to do that, too, but not all the time. There's only so many of them. Everyone has a place, regardless of how small it may be. Why don't pokemon rule us?
