Reposting notes on AZOTH in alchemy

Azoth is the single force -- the "spiritus animatis," as Wikipedia puts it -- of humanity that drives it to attain physical and spiritual perfection. Not only this, the Azoth seems to also have a physical incarnation as the "Elixir of Life" or "The Universal Solvent," and was known as the cure for any mental, spiritual, or physical ailment. Essentially, it's liquid perfection.

Another thing of note is that Azoth's name was constructed from the first and last letters of the Latin, Greek, and Hebrew alphabets, in that order: A/Alpha/Aleph, Z, Omega, and Tau, which ties in to the "Beginning and End" motif present in AZ, and Alpha and Omega.

Additionally, Azoth is another, less used name for the chemical Mercury, which is a part of a very significant trio in alchemy, with the other members being salt and sulfur. The chemical symbols of all three can be seen within the starter Pokemon, as shown in pic related.

The starters and Rockruff represent the 4 elements of sulfur, mercury, salt and lead, which are needed in alchemy for various transmutations. It is implied that the Aether foundation are most likely the true villains, and were the creators of Type Null by utilizing the starters and Rockruff to achieve their three main goals (wealth, immortality, all-knowing wisdom). But because they lack true Aether, they were left with a failed experimental creature, Type Null.

I was confused about Sophocles and Lana at First, but here are what the names are based on.

Sophocles is probably based on the native Mamame tree, Sophora chrysophylla. The name is a bit different, but the key factor is that it contains the Hawaiian word for paralysis, and it has strikingly bright yellow flowers. It is also usually rather short and portly looking despite being able to grow to 40+ feet in some environments.
Of note albeit not really relevant is the fact that Mamame seeds are extremely poisonous. The plants are sometimes found with birds littered around them in areas with a lot of invasive birds, usually house finches. I guess you could connect this to being good against flying types.

I don't think they ARE the beasts, but I don't think it's too far fetched to say they are trying to use them. I think what's going on is that the Third Legendary, which Riddler hinted as being based on Aristotle, or his work, has some kind of connection to the Ultra Beasts, as Riddler had them right next to each other in the same box, not broken up.

It's a Scorpian Pokemon that lives in a hyper space wormhole. It was sealed there by the Island deities. The Aether foundation was doing research into this Hyperspace world and managed to punch a small hole into it. Hair and other material was sucked into the hole before it closed and the Third Legendary used it's DNA with the material that got sucked in to make the Ultra Beasts.

Lucamine thinks that the UBs were the residents of that world come to greet them, which is why she's happy to see it.

The Ultra Beasts attack the island deities to free the Third Legendary, Solgeleo and Lunala will make the portal to go fight the Legendary and stop the UB from attacking.

Lana in Hawaiian means both afloat and calm, still waters. It fits Lana's personality from what we've been shown. If you extend the name, you get lilia-lana-i-ka-wai, which means water lily in Hawaiian. You get it, because they float in calm waters. Anyways, despite having a Hawaiian name, water lilies are a later introduction to the Hawaiian islands. They are one of the few plants that came in the brief time period between foreign contact and the temporary extinction of Hawaiian language. The Hawaiians thought that lilies were pretty enough to get their own Hawaiian name soon after they got them for cultivation, so that's special I guess. Today, you can find Lilies in about every koi pond, hotel, or pot full of water here, so they are pretty popular just like everywhere else.

Already posted this, but I feel like I should cover all of the captains before moving onto the next batch.

Kiawe is an introduced tree that is adapted for extremely dry climates. It has the ability to suck the water away from neighboring plants with extreme efficiency. This of course means it can both survive and deter competition at the same time. Kiawe is also a great firewood/ grilling wood. Restaurants usually grill with Kiawe to add flavor to the food, and they will usually list it on the dish description as grilled over a kiawe wood grill. They also can have thorns and are invasive.

Chimera, specifically the Manticore. We might have confirmed a leak that went unoticed that the Legendaries will all have a common pre evo.

So a Manticore pre evo, that can evolve into a Lion, a Bat and Scorpian.

Also, the cool thing about the Manticore? It was also suppose to have a HUMAN face. So there is more Pokemon/Human hybrid theory right there.

Mallow actually covers a very large group of plants in Hawaii. The most notable ones being cotton and hibiscus. The endemic cotton isn't good for fabric, so let's ignore that one and focus on the Hibiscus.
Hibiscus is a very prominent plant in Hawaii. The state flower is a hibiscus, the only naturally yellow hibiscus are endemic to Hawaii and endangered. The only naturally fragrant hibiscus are endemic to hawaii and endangered, and they can come in all sorts of colors. The red ones that most people think of are actually from southern China and the surrounding area, but we have those as well.
Mallow is a broad name, but we can infer that it has a tropical, verdant, jungle like feel when associated with what we know about Mallow so far. She also has a flower in her hair, but that looks generic as fuck.
I scared you by writing they're all endangered didn't I. Some plants are actually limited to about 20 in the wild in one or two fenced off patches. Thankfully most Hawaiian plants are cultivated locally for landscaping,so there is a safety net. The others are in the process of being cultivated.

I guess that I could say that Hibiscuses were used for leis and their wood, but almost every plant with flowers was used for leis and also the same for wood.

Nevermind, most of her names have to do with cotton or cotton fibers. The Italian one is hibiscus related, but I guess I should've checked the foreign names.
The Japanese name in particular is ma'o, the endemic Hawaiian cotton. Then again the state flower is a yellow hibiscus with a similar name, but I digress.
As I stated earlier, it isn't a cotton variety that can be readily used for clothing. I guess I should've noticed that Mallow's outfit kinda looks like it's made of cotton.

As it turns out, the tree in front of the Cave of Origins has an Eternal Flower.

Am I the only one who is very annoyed by the people who keep bringing up the flower/plant-name meanings? It has been a part of the (Japanese) naming process for so long and, for the most part, all of the names even the non-plant ones have at least something to do with the characters.

Ma'o has recently been crossbreed with other cotton varieties in order to make them resistant to pest species. It was used for medicine, dye, and lei's in the past.

Samson Oak is weird in that he has two names with different meanings. Nariya is Okinawan/Japanese for Bamboo orchids, which while rare in the wild in Japan, have recently been cultivated to the point of almost being considered invasive in Hawaii.
The English name, Samson seems to reference his Samson/ Samson flowers, both symbolizing invincibility or just making fun of his hair.

Someone already capped the posts describing how team skull was based on commercial plants and how Kukui, Hala, and Hau were all polynesian staple plants, but I'd like to note that Hala uses crabrawler in his battle and coconut crabs eat about any tree fruits they can get their hands on, including hala tree fruits, which look like pineapples. They're just starchy fruits though.

Obvious bias incoming, but I believe that if they launched a console with a proper Pokémon RPG, they would never have to worry about sales at all.

The new Zelda has a lot going for it, but can you imagine if NX launched with Zelda, the inevitable Mario launch title, AND an actual Pokémon game?

Not really a pattern, but all of the current ultra beasts seem like they could be based on invasive animals or pests. I'm kinda reaching here, but we have the whole invading from another dimension angle.

Mosquito's fucked up Hawaii's native birds so much that they either went extinct, were already avian malaria resistant, or they were forced up over the 2,000 foot range where mosquitos can't breed.

Roaches could be argued to be good cleaners, but if I see a B-29 hovering around a porch light and flying at me, fuck it. They've even made it to the remote northwest islands thanks to exploration. Imagine an island without roaches or ants. I'd kill for that.

Jellyfish are a common fouling organism that comes from ships. A lot few non-native jellyfish have made it to Hawaii and have been able to multiply semi unhindered. That or from the pest angle don't go swimming two weeks after a full moon.

I moved Hoenn closer to Kalos/Johto. NPC's in Kalos imply Hoenn is close by, and Embedded Tower in Johto also suggests a closer connection to Hoenn (aside from the obvious connection that the Japan-inspired Regions are probably close to each other)

This should be, as far we can tell, the most accurate depiction of the Pokémon World we have based on In-Game dialogue.

The first is that a group that's not Team Flare was in Anistar City asking about the lore on Xerneas and Yveltal.
The second is that 50% Zygarde appeared and caused the Terminus Cave mine to be closed.
Both of these happened "a few years ago" just like Colress studying the graves.

I'd be surprised if all of this wasn't related to the Aether Foundation.

Just spitballing here, but I thought up another origin for the ultra beasts. So there's that bit of lore that says Humans and Pokemon were once one species, and then they split, right? What if they didn't? What if there is a parallel dimension where instead of people and Pokemon, there are hybrids. Chimera, if you will. Mostly Humanoid, sentient beings, but with all the amazing elemental power of Pokemon. Both UB-02's certainly seem part bug-type. This would also explain why the Ultra Beasts have counterparts in this dimension. Also explains why they're just showing up now. If the UB-World developed at the same rate as the Pokemon world, they only just discovered Extra- Dimensional travel, during the delta episode. This is probably what Aether is working on, remembering Lusamine's comment about Pokemon from other worlds. Only there are no Pokemon in the other world. No people. Only Ultra Beasts. And maybe they're only coming though to study us, I mean Lillie is the Kukui's assistant, it makes sense her UB counterpart is scientifically inclined. Or not. Maybe, we'll wind up regretting not sending that Deoxis meteor into the parallel Dimension.

Kabutops is not and never was Bug type. Its not in their breeding group and learns no Bug moves naturally. Bug/Water -> Rock/Water -> Bug/Steel doesn't make any sense you know it. Genesect doesn't even have ANY Water moves.
Genesect has an insect abdomen, which is nothing like Kabutops' lower torso. Its eyes beneath the lens are also completely different.
If there was a connection, it would have been said from the very beginning like Mewtwo and Mew. An entire movie came and went without Kabutops even being mentioned. A whole new fossil was designed for Genesect's arm.

They probably never put much thought into what Genesect originally looked like anyway.

I think, and I truly believe this, but I think one of the only permanent rules of the anime is that Ho-oh can't appear again until the final episode. He has no movie role (only appearing briefly as a cameo in the openings of two of them), didn't even appear in the Hoopa one which had every other cover legend. The two new UB's being named Beauty and Expansion reminds me of Ruby and Sapphire. Those were the goals of the two villain teams.

Team Aqua wanted beauty for the world by having more water for pokemon and whatever.

Team Magma wanted expansion by drying up the ocean so humans could develop more.

Is the gen exclusivity between the two beasts implying we'll have another gen3 thing where you fight a different team depending on the version?

Here's something I've been puzzling over for some time: Why does Zygarde have an Anti-Yveltal move, but not an Anti-Xerneas move?

Thousand Arrows is clearly meant to be how he keeps Yveltal in check and negates the typing disadvantage he has towards it, but Thousand Waves and Land's Wrath do fuck-all to Xerneas. If it's supposed to maintain balance, why does it only have a counter to one half of the equation?

Also, is it just me, or do Game Freak seem to consider Origins/Generations canon with the games? Origins was an almost exact recreation of FR/LG, minus the Sevii Islands, and including MegaZardX at the end. Generations is being marketed as "shedding light" on stuff we already know from the games. So is it safe for us to treat these episodes as canon?

I'd say they're canon in the ORAS/XY time line. We know about the events in Kalos and Hoenn in this universe so this is a way at seeing the events in other regions.

It's unlikely we'll get Kanto, Johto, and Unova focused games for quite a few years considering Sinnoh is next in line for the remakes.

It also might give us a look as to why red might be appearing in Sun and Moon.

So... Yes, then. I mean that much was obvious from MegaZardX in Origins. They're never going back to a universe without Megas. No idea why people are so fixated on that.

I noticed the trailer didn't really show much from Hoenn or Kalos (outside of Perfect Zygarde, which technically isn't Kalos) so you may be right. This may be their way of bringing the younger generation up-to-date on the other Generations, while also showing any minor changes/retcons.

Ultimately, it depends on if Generations is going to follow the official Timeline properly (Red being aged in the trailer is a hopeful sign), and if it's going to update the other Generations.

But, somewhat worryingly, there's speculation that this isn't going to really fit into the game canon at all. The trailer seems to have Red pasted into random events in Pokémon that he shouldn't really be in. But it's too early to tell really. We'll have to watch and analyze the episodes together as they come out so we can see if it fits together or not.

Well Red is present with the Perfect Zygarde, which already has worrying implications about continuity with S/M, so I am really not sure if this show is going to fluidly be "canon" with the games like Origins was.

About Generations? I'm being cautious about it.

I'm scared that they're going to sacrifice a potential good series to just push Red as being "everywhere", and that it wont make sense with the games.

But, on the other hand, it could end up being really good, and actually expanding the lore and events of the games.

I think this place is indeed going to be the best place to discuss it, assuming it's not completely shit.

This shot is likely part of the Kalos Zygarde story. Red rides a Minecart down, and finds himself lost in the cave, discovering Zygarde.

Now the important thing to consider here, is that each episode is 3-5 minutes long. This is important for my upcoming screenshots, but it also means that certain stories will be multiple-parts. I believe that the Red/Zygarde story is the finale of the series, and will tie directly into Sun and Moon, just like the finale of Origins revealed something new for X/Y.

The Red Gyarados. Thus far, we have only seen Red as a protagonist right?

Fucking WRONG. The episodes are 3-5 minutes long. This means that for >>28498350, >>28498327, and >>28498294, there is not possible way they can fit Red into it. Looker is the protagonist for that entire story.

In this screenshot, you see Dragonite, meaning this fight is between Lance and the Red Dragonite, before Ethan/Lyra even shows up. The entire episode will probably be following Lance as he tries to calm the creature. There is no reason to believe that Red will appear here, or in the Looker episode. The episodes are simply too short.

Alright. I'll bite with a theory I came up with off the top of my head.

What if Lillie was also Lusamine and Gladion? Their character designs are extremely similar. Blonde hair, green eyes, and height.

Perhaps the new UBs that were leaked possess Lillie, and depending of you got Sun or Moon, the Mosquito could possess her in Sun, creating Gladeon, and the weird woman thing could possess her in moon, creating Lusamine.

This one is Heatran at what we can presume is Stark Mountain. Possibly another Looker-led story, or possibly Buck.
