First we find the Capcom office most likely to have records and backups of older work.
Then we get a floor plan and try to glean as much as possible about actual conditions inside the building.
Then we strike.

The hardest part is that said building might be in Japan and none of us are Japanese. We'd stick out like a sore thumb even without trying to pull off a heist.
It's worth looking into the circumstances behind that one guy who played the prototype. An overseas office would be far higher easier to hit, and the odds of a copy being forgotten in storage are higher as well.

In general I think the biggest real obstacle to /mmg/ pulling this off is travel time and expenses, which most of us probably can't afford.
That and there is the unfortunate possibility that all copies were deleted, scrapped, or thrown out by now. It's been quite a while since the cancellation.
Nevertheless I still hope that some day a disgruntled employee will leak everything.

Nothing is ever thrown away. Not these days, at least. Game assets are shared among other games, recycled into dev tools, prototypes, etc.

Like I said earlier, I'm positive physical Prototype Version carts exist. They had to have been printed in time for the public demo event but that was cancelled (again from the Tsunami) literally a week before it began. There's also the Nintendo Power staffer that got to play the game behind closed doors on an actual 3DS.

It'll be as faithful as I can make it.

I've already programmed the shield, the whistle at the start of stages, and edited the vast majority of frames so they are just like in 9/10, although the most troublesome frames remain.

The hit detection of the shield isn't perfect yet for instance atm, shots will go 'in' the shield a few pixels before being deflected rather than being pixel perfect as soon as it touches the shield like in 9/10. That's one thing I'm stuck on atm, and as you can see in the video the P. Coil isn't fully accurate either yet (only works if you hold the jump button).

Once I'm done with this I plan on doing the same thing for MM4. MM4 and 5 are designed in very similar ways so it shouldn't be too hard to transpose it.

Can't tell how long it's going to take for a fully playable version. Maybe 1-2 months.
