Fetch quests can be fun, and so are hunts. There are some unique ones, but it's just like any other open world. Kill, gather, talk, find. Every Open world or similar RPG does this. I enjoy them if the world and lore is great. FFXV so far does a great job at doing that for me, because compared to the quests in any other FF if it had any, these are much better. The forest atmosphere is awesome and does definitely sink me into it. So I enjoy riding Chocobos from one point to the next. I'm only Chapter 5.

After 10 years and lots of trial and error, I've figured out a way to enjoy FF15.

1. Avoid doing all the side quests. So much of them are hot, burning garbage. Fluffy that adds nothing to the story, lore, or any interesting game mechanics. There are some 'hidden' dungeons around, but you might as well find a guide that tells you how to get to all of them to save you time.

2. It's an offline MMO. You do quests/fight shit to get exp/AP so you can do quests/fight shit. There's a main questline and everything else.

3. Learn to fast travel, learn the map, and always have chocobos.

4. Forget the game had anything to do with Versus.

When I first started it I considered it a progress from XIII-2 point of view. Sure there is an open world kind of but it is still in traditional Final Fantasy context. If it says they have open world it doesn't mean it's GTA5, that's the main issue what people have thought or have been waiting for.

So, I guess it depends what you want in a side quest, but a lot of them are go here, collect/kill/do this inane thing, come back.

Hunts are more fun since you can fight things higher level than you and get a challenge, but that'll depend on your grasp of the battle system.

There are hidden 'dungeons' scattered around, but finding them on your own is neither rewarding or fun. It's mostly tedious, cause you could easily miss them and it's not all that fun getting to them. Unless you find wandering around in XV fun, then go crazy. Otherwise, I'd just say find a guide that points out where all the dungeon locations are so you have an idea where to look. Though, imo the dungeons haven't been all that fun either.

Nah. Open world games never have any great story, and it's not like I even care to pay attention to them. I skipped mostly every cutscene in Xenoblade X because they were incredibly boring. I at least like the Final Fantasy atmosphere and characters to see what they have to say in cutscenes, but that's just me. I'll see for myself how the story ends, but if I wanted a good story, linear RPGs always have that for me. The content being more rewarding doesn't really say anything, I'm pretty satisfied with what I'm getting. It can't even be compared to an MMO, and I find it comical when people use "MMO" for anything open world.

I get its hp down to 0, it regens. It tells me to run and regroup, which I do but as soon as I leave it tells me to go back and fight it again which is worthless.

I don't care about GTA, it's not an RPG. The quests haven't been that easy, and battling can be tough and it's always fun to play. I don't think the quests are "sparse", nor do I think the game has any worse pacing than Xenoblade X. You can fast travel, although the load times suck for now, and I've 16 hours in on Chapter 6. Isn't there 15 chapters? So far it's been pretty good.

The point still stands my friend. Putting GTA aside many WRPGs and even JRPGs that are set in open worlds have better stories than this one.

And In no sense of the world are the quests, hunts, and general objectives of the game not sparse. The world is needlessly large and it takes forever to move anywhere, even fast travel has you staring at a picture for minutes at times. The pacing is just bad. I haven't played X much but you move significantly faster in that game even before you get the robot that improves your travel speed by 9999%.

After chapter 7 or 8 the game goes linear so you're already through most of the bulk of the game so to speak.

Phantom Forest and the Arena have free megacites and the Phantom forest has a huge droprate for both green magicite/megacite. So take advantage of that if you need Esper levels.

Most of my espers are at level 20 2* except Ifrit who is at level 37 2* and Carbuncle who is at level 13 2* and Siren who I just left at level 10 2*. Shiva I have yet to awaken and is stuck at level 28 1* and she will be my next focus so that I can get her free lapis.

They aren't sparse. I see one every now and then, and already have many that I yet to complete. You can run infinitely, warp, use Chocobos, use a car to get around or just simply fast travel. The pacing isn't bad, because I'm always doing something different. You move faster in X, but that doesn't matter. X isn't XV.

Not even close. XV is incredibly versatile, fluid, and the combat has more flare to it than any other action RPG. While playing MMOs or any turn based games, you aren't doing anything but simple math that is all done for you. You're just thinking about your next move and the character does it for you. For games like KH2 and XV, instead of thinking about your moves, you're doing your moves and you do it with "finesse" as XV puts it. The games combat is really fun and entertaining, and there isn't a single MMO out there that can even touch it or be pronounced to have more "fun", because they are all awful. Builds and high skill ceiling are just more of the same math. The output is always the same. In RPGs like XV you're actually doing the battles instead of thinking about them, and I'm a big fan of that.

Nostalgia sells better. Maybe if FF returned to its classic form of Turn based battles without the MMO stuff or the action oriented gameplay of KH, then likely it would sell better.

Just make a Bravely Default game style but slap FF on the title so that people get that classic recognition. Leave the other gameplay styles as spinoffs.

You know, I mhaving the time of my life, I love the moment to moment interactions and the general vibe, but fuck me if the story isnt just horse shit. I love the setting, a King wearing a tux and going full DBZ in a ghost city sounds cool buts its executed so poorly and its just for the sake of itself. The game doesnt even care if you actually grab all the kings glaives, it just gives them to you so you can have your "Epic Moment (TM). 10 year skip should have been the halfway point of the game, not the final chapter. For 10 years iun the making, the game still feels rushed. Basically when you go to Alticia marks the final run of the game and I wish I got some better warning before that point. Im having fun exploring the new world but fuck me, man, these sidequests are some of the most repetitive garbage. At least when you fight an optional bossi t actually feels challenging. The story missions feel too much like gimmes. Leviathan was a more engaging fight than the last boss, and it was still just a button mash. Last thing I wanan say is, why does the game bother me so much about equping outfits when you only get 2 pairs.

Practically a whale here with all the synergy I have for realms, but I mean there are definitely bosses that are undeniably hard as balls, it's not like whales automatically gain denial of reality r-right?

I mean, sure, from my perspective there's usually more bosses that are more of a slog or require more effort but aren't necessarily hard for me but I can definitely tell that they'd be a lot harder if I didn't have what I did.
