I am fairly new to the series, but I get the impression that
- pretty much all of them are at least decent
- each series has unique mechanics
- playing in any order is fine
Right now I'm on FF3 (Steam/DS version) which is certainly the most "classic" out of the ones I've played (3, 7, 13 trilogy). You might want to start with 3/4 if you want to appreciate retro references in the later games (for example, what "Jump" is or who's that turtle with a knife).

The combat in 15 has to be the WORST action combat I have ever fucking seen. Who the fuck thought this shit up.

The block button , the attacking, everything is not fluid, it doesn't feel right. I just fucking finally raged because of how shit this combat is and how if they just fucking went kingdom hearts style it would actually ten times better.

I keep bashing circle and keep forgeting you have to hold it down, then you have to fucking hold down square in time just to block. instead of you know actually controlling your attacks and being able to block lightning fast.
THATS how a action rpg show be like. not this shit.

One is about getting lucky and rolling the character you like among shit pull rates and donuts all over the place. The other is about getting lucky and rolling the weapon for the character you like, even if 5* abilities can make up for the slack a little bit.

And in the middle is another mobage that says, "pay x dollars to get this new job".

atb gauge is fine, but the fact that you only have 2 abilities per character, that you have to equip, and that have very limited uses means that the combat is a lot more simplistic. You basically choose which of your characters hits the hardest and has the best gear. Sometimes you try to organize your group so they get the story bonus stats and etc, but that isn't usually necessary.

FF BE lets you build interesting parties, there are some bosses that you want to stack mages and burst them down with magic, and there are some bosses with huge resistances and even leech MP from your units so you want melee damage.

One of the BE youtube players thought up a fun combo with Bartz lifegiver and Refia's full life to counter MP drain effects on his party.

I can't decide between playing IV in 2D or 3D, even after watching videos of both versions (PSP and Steam) on YouTube.

So I did the daily 250 jewpis pull today and got Snow on first try. Is he any good? I checked on the Jap tier list and they gave him a 89/100 which is pretty good I think. You will never run out of gil doing enhancements. The mats are so few and far between that it's impossible to do.
Gil Snappers PRO is also yet to come, and that will make gil farming even more trivial.
2.5 million Gil is only worth a couple days in the PRO snapper cave, which comes every weekend. You get an average of 100K for 30 NRG, not to mention the steady trickle from all other sources.

One event curency is worth 50 gil, making for an average rate of 769 gil/NRG without bonus units (on a good event, not this XIII crap)

In order to make it break even for your NRG cost, you need to have 433.33% bonus drops, or to get lucky with rare event pinatas. And that's just to break even.

So it's less efficient and it robs you from farming more important things like 6* mats.
