It's impossible to give a general answer. He stomps front-to-back, front-to-back, then after a tiny pause initiates the right-handed swipe. You just have to use your sense and decide for yourself.

Dodging straight away from him if you can will generally be the best option, of course. You just have to try and reason or guess where the swipe is going to go.

It annoys people in PvP, great as a finisher too like the sprayers. Pair it with Beast Roar to push people back if they get too close. It's okay for chip damage on bosses, you might do more damage overall compared to the cannons. BMA is useless on it though.
