Sure, you can make a skill build with just enough arc for tools. You should get around 15 for Old Hunter's Bone, Empty Phantasm Shell and Beast Roar or as much as possible for Augur, Blacksky Eye et al.

At least the threaded cane has an interesting moveset and a lot of options.

Stake Driver, Boom Hammer, and Axe have dumb unsatisfying movesets and their only saving grace is a charged R2.

Saw weapons and the saif are somehow even more generic than a straight sword from Dark Souls in their attack patterns and become boring within five minutes of equipping it.

Kirkhammer and Ludwig's blade are really cool concepts and would work great in a game like Dark Souls but suck tits in this game because of their exceptionally low speed and rally potential.

Burial Blade requires you to BEAT THE ENTIRE GAME to get, so that's not even something you can consider for a new character.

Unless you're a katanafaggot, there are so very few interesting weapons in the game that are actually any damn good for getting you through the game and are as functional as they are fun to use and aesthetically pleasing.

Unless you're running a strength build you don't get SHIT until mid or even late game besides the damn cane, and even then the cane is still functionally better than most skill weapons.

tl;dr if you want to use something other than the cane either go str build or use guns almost exclusively

hi it's me again, still haven't killed Rom yet, and asking yet another stupid question:

Where/how can I farm twin bloodstone shards and/or chunks so I can start upgrading some other weapons? I just got both an Uncanny and Lost Beast Cutter and I'd like to gem them up but first I need to get them to at least +6 (and my normal one is +8 so I'd like to get at least one of them to be on par with that)

After Rom there will be sort of an abundance of Chunks and you could farm werewolves in Upper Cathedral Ward after you pick up the key. Cleric Beast is easier than Iudex Gundyr and maybe only a little bit harder than Asylum Demon if only because you don't get a free critical hit on him at the start of the fight.

And even if you have shit timing, can't dodge to save your life, and are nearly completely out of blood vials, Central Yharnam gives you enough molitavs to take him down to an extremely reasonable low level of health.

Cleric Beast is really easy to get hits in on. He can be crippled, stunned, and opened for viscerals by hitting his legs and/or shooting his head.

If you want to cheese him real hard, just shoot him in the head every time you get a chance until he's open for a visceral attack, visceral him, then dodge around until he heals and repeat the process.

Dodging foward to his side and hitting once or twice works. Just gotta watch out for his combo swipes. Best attack to punish is the delayed slam he does, if you're next to his butt the aoe won't hit you. Saw Cleaver or Saw Spear works great, serrated weapons with teeth do extra damage against beasts. Tricked Cane is serrated too.

Delayed transform attack traps are my favorite thing about PvP in BB. I wish I was better at them. I'm way better at DaS3. The countless hours in DaS translated well despite them fucking with the mechanics.
