To that anon asking about IA last thread:
Cool Headed, Dextrous, Melee or Ranged II, and Strong Back are some of the first traits I usually take on a War Vet.

You also usually don't want to use a pitchfork or sledgehammer without a rank in a melee skill, or if you are an occultist for the darkbolt synergy.
+3 Machete is the best weapon for every class IMO.

I'm running an Epic Enchanter in Quest For The Unicorn. Currently, I'm abusing CHA to buy cheap stuff, enchant it, and sell it for more than I bought it. My plan is to buy a Spear of Spruce and blast some shmucks out in the wilderness until level 7, when I can buy Medium Health, enchant all my stuff with it, and feel safe enough to enter dungeon 1.

Yes, it's available in non-ASCII but it takes like 5 seconds to load the screen every time it needs to be redrawn (which is often) so I wouldn't recommend it.

Any Elona+ vets give me tips what do now that I've mostly finished NT?

I'm clearing dungeons for plat and medals, eating food for potential and stats, completing quests and trying to raise all my skills to 60. And I'm capturing little girls and farming AP at lvl 50+ dungeons for speed. My long term game is cycling gods for their rewards so I can hit the ST quests with good gear, skills, stats, and high speed.

Do I continue on with a straight-forward OpTm build?
Or so I fuck it and worship Quazloud to try to become the loudest, shieldiest, Octopode I can be?

Especially the #####+ resist magic that you can shuffle material for another resist. I dunno if the unmangled pasta survived but dig through it and any nested pastebins.

Yeah. You should be doing all the jobs cause as your fame rises you get more money per job until you start getting 2,3,4,5+ plat per job. The money lets you buy, invest, buy and enchant better gear, consumables and spell stock which lets you dunk on dungeons. You'll eventually quaff up 7 league boots and run cargo in addition to diving easy dungeons on the way to/back for even more dosh. It becomes a runaway train if you keep at it.

Proper playing of this game is sometimes really repetitive and annoying. I'm tired of getting to Lair once for every 19 times i get raped by asshole posion monsters or boss gangbangs. I also think it's annoying that 99% of creatures in the dungeon auto-target you and just proceed to fuck you up. And then they just hang out where you left them. And if you're a scrub, every time you splat, you leave a ghost that fucks you up later on, because they always appear before you're ready for them. Oh boy, ANOTHER monster i have to run from until ????

I love this game but it's frustrating as fuck sometimes.

Yeah, wow, explore around your stairs and pay attention to loud noises, evocation, spell noise then explore in chucks pulling away from unexplored zones to avoid adds so you don't get fucking rocked. So laborious. I know, I'll just run alond the map edge, get cut off, git dunked on and play the early game all over again. Just keep raising your fame doing as many jobs as you can handle.Eventually you unlock harder jobs with a higher plat reward and your regular jobs slowly get harder then pay more plat. you don't really have to go out of your way just do all the jobs you can whenever you can.

Your goals are mostly get a L4-5+ damage spell with enough power to kill a hydra in ~4 casts
Raise a defense according to apts so you don't implode in a light frogging unless you're gonna go glass cannon
Get more spellpower and a little more defense and minor buffs
Then decide if you're gonna use evocables and the crystal ball/staff of energy, haste, your gods invocs, a melee weapon or launcher to help supplement your blasting.

I am carrying a bit more food than I expected to, but I was hitting nearly starving and starving a little too often early on for my liking.

This is my first time getting to the mid game and covering my primary skills so I was just a bit lost.

I'm Level 18, Conjurations are at 20, Hexes 10, Dodging 10, Fighting is around 8 or so.
I've gotten Armor to 8ish and Shields to 15(because I have a shield of reflection) and thought it'd fuck my spell failure % but it didn't really.

The last two might've been waste in the current version?
I'm wearing Steam Dragon Armor +0 because I haven't found anything else. I've got a pile of Enchant Armor scrolls in my stack but was holding out for something.

Found old pasta of elona, can't find an answer to the question: What do I do when a creature is difficult to handle? Change creature? Stack resists? Increase speed / weapon skills? Cockatrice and Body of Yith (sp?) mobs are crushing me, I try to silence them and kill them with range. I am playing solo so that might be hurting me

If it's a retarded thing you change creature or leave/recall and telespam while hoping you make it. Gold/plat/fame whatever isn't worth it.
You're getting superior resist in everything to cock up status effects then all the magic resist you can do
If it's a common enemy you just avoid it and do lower level dungeons and all the jobs you can to raise potential and train. As always, enchant your gear higher, buy better gear from a heavily invest black market at your house, buy more consumables from heavily invested magic/general/goods shop, make sure your buffs are up, training spells/magic device/launcher skill to weaken while it closes distance helps.

Solo's a very tricky thing because on one hand, you're very strong and not having to grind at least as much, on the other hand you're on your own when it's objectively stronger having more guys putting out damage and splitting up the damage per "turn" even if it gets retarded how much dosh you blow getting exceptionally good gear, enchanting it, giving them mission rewards for potential, giving them herbed herbs only to generally want to chuck them to the curb down the road.

That said, I dunno if it was a mod or something but I saw a guy adjusting his pet AI and teaching it stuff so between that and all the monster evolutions that've been added you could benefit. It's not too hard to keep a single ally fed on mission rewards, leftover food, and your old equipment.

When you reach act 2, you'll be able to increase your speed via AP and start steamrolling many enemies. Right now, though, you shouldn't be using the coin as a ranged weapon because it does little damage. Get a nice gun and ammo instead, or start casting dart spells, or just hit things in melee. It's most efficient to do one or two of these three things, so as to make sure your platinum isn't spread too thinly. Also don't bother with casting negative status spells, just focus on how you can increase your damage per turn.

Silence is based but you have to main it hard training it all the time. you get 20% potential per day and you should never ever ever ever hit 400% potential. Keep at it and you'll even be able to shut down inner-Itzpalt or whatever the final form of him is. Slow, weakness and the rest are nice but because of the retarded spell system what happens is twice a week you spend a half hour just mashing shift-1.2.3 and your buff spells which is just... wow... So it's up to you how much you care.

Uh... It's been a while but you really should get casting and literacy as well as the other publics. Memorization is nice but not worth getting killed over. You want to cast your buffs for a bit as long as you have stock to spare and the potential is at/near 400%. The sooner you start and the longer you stick with it the sooner you'll hit the success cap with your riding/heavy armor/shield whatevers and increase your duration. It's really nice when you start hitting 100+ turns of it per cast.

Act 2 has the Valkoinen Kuolema for ranged, otherwise Mani has a great shotgun as a god gift. Guns have very nice dice compared to other weapons, I'm just not sure it scales the same ways as melee does skillwise. You're not quite strong enough to get the Railgun at the moment.

You want a fairly short game so splats aren't agony like they are in nethack/pcb/crawl/etc. This is VITAL

You want good distinct consumables and consumable use like in forays to norrendin

You need some kind of timer mechanic to push people forward and avoid unlimited scumming like you can do in pcb/E+ and shit. forays into norrendin's/Incursion's no health regen. Don't use one-way heroics plus's system though. It just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Distinct enemies with a solid glyph system. it's really annoying when one brown p is a tab fest and another will kill you in 3 turns and their spawns overlap.

You want your floor generation system formated to somewhat mirror crawl's where it's easy to add shit by anyone who can use notepad. This will help you crowdsource vaults and floors for variety.

Making terrain matter and being able to damage/interact with your environment goes a long way to making it immersive. Forays/Brogue have this.

You want PCB and its parent game's inscription system, macros and crawl's rc file system for item protection and gameplay smoothing

Keep 1-0, alt-1-0, shift 1-0, ctrl 1-0 free like it is in Elona+. Being able to one-press bind actions and spells to them without having to learn macro shit is a godsend. Compare PCB's m-c-d-*-t-enter just to frost bolt something vs hitting 1 once.

Yeah, it's like 6 tiles away you can cook if you aren't in winter gear. You can wagon some logs and 2x4's over and create a small lean-to. Drag somebookcases over if you're worried about npc looting.

If you have a vehicular welder you can fix up scrap and drive it over then outfit it with boads, roofs, trunks and floor trunks.

I think it's because on harder difficulties you have to play very carefully to avoid getting destroyed on each encounter, which can be exhausting. Similar to how crawl can feel like a chore if you're playing a shitty combo and need to pull every enemy one by one.
