I'm replaying 5's campaign, I haven't touched it since I completed it on launch. Now that I've had about a year to think on it, I think I can say I like it. It's writing is still super clumsy, and handled badly, but it has a lot more memorable moments than 4 did. The most impressive thing 4 did with its campaign, regarding the gameplay, is flying the Pelican, but it lacked a lot of those spectacles I expect out of Halo.

The space battle with Blue Team was pretty rad, climbing the space elevator while a Guardian shakes it apart was cool. Things like that. I've been loving the soundtrack, too, I only just started listening to it for real.

People that grew up with the games stop differentiating them from other games out of the cycle and liable them all as classics. People that didn't grow up with them or were too young to really appreciate what they were about lable them as old and having aged like milk. They become free from the cycle but are restricted to a black and white state of being. Obviously this varies to an extent (I'm sure there's some people out there born in 1999 that legitimately like CE) but for the most part this is how it is.

Regardless, this meshing of individual level quality together doesn't account for how people will usually judge an overall game quality.
For example, I agree with Halo 2's levels placing consistantly high, especially if we group them together like that, but every time I play the campaign I can't escape the feeling I get when it just becomes obvious that it's simply not finished. It doesn't feel as "complete as really any other game does except maybe 5.

The game launched with 6 maps built from the ground up. Yes I said 6. The fewest in any Halo game by far...
1. Coliseum
2. Empire
3. Fathom
4. Plaza
5. Truth (midship remake)
6. The Rig

So now is when we have to start applying 343's faggotry reasoning to make this stretch to 21...

Eden (7) is a "remix" of Empire. They're literally the same map with some slight wall and ramp changes and at a different time of day. The same goes for Regret (8) in regards to Truth, although they did a better job at least of making it look cosmetically different.

Next we have Orion (9) and Pegasus (10) which are forged maps on the "Alpine" canvas, a canvas by the way that was not accessible until months after launch when Forge released. Orion was so poorly forged that it was actually removed from matchmaking altogether shortly after launch.

Next up is more forged maps, this time on the Breakout Arena Canvas. They are Altitude (11), Crossfire (12), Gambol (13), Trench (14), and Trident (15). In case you're counting, we have only just passed the the number of maps that shipped on disc with Halo CE 15 years ago, and those were all made from the ground up.

Now, that's all we can actually use in customs that launched with the game, so I guess the other maps that make up the promised "21" are the warzone maps.
Well, there's the 3 we got at launch, Ark (16), Stormbreak (17), and Apex (18), none of which can be accessed in customs TO THIS DAY by the way.

But where are the last 3? They promised 21 maps... don't tell me... do they actually consider the 3 warzone assault variants their own unique maps? They actually count that towards that number 21 that they advertised in our face for months?

This is the shit that really triggers me with 343. They promise us gold and we get rusty metal coins with gold paint. They have done this time and time again with every update and announcement. How the fuck can you defend this company?
