Barely even matter since that phase ended when she met Rachel (So like two or so years before Max comes back). Even then it sounds like something Chloe did not enjoy, but she's honest so she freely mentions her past.

I really do wish Rachel just told her about Frank, and any others, though. Chloe would have been annoyed at first but overall she would be thankful Rachel told her the truth and then they could settle that they were just close friends. It's a top tier ship, and there's plenty canonical substance for it. That apology/get-well letter? Kate forgiving Victoria? Victoria wanting to just see Kate smile again? The bully turned supporter, and Kate bringing Vicky's joy out? I can see that Victoria could totally become more religious too; experience the bliss of pious self-confidence and divine forgiveness instead of parental strictness and insecurity arising from not living up to wordly expectations. While she could show Kate more worldly pleasures and a more free-living attitude. There's some complementarity in their dynamic for sure. What an insightful observation, Rachel.

I'm hella late to the party, but I just finished the game. Considering how throughout the game your choices were meaningful, I do get why people were underwhelmed with the endings. Still, I thought the final choice was pretty cool. There's not really a "right" decision, both could be argued as good endings.

The only thing that I didn't care for was that EP 5's big bad was a little over the top with their motivation. The voice director should've told them to tone it down just a little, and it would've been WAY more chilling. Oh well, such is life.

I picked Bay. Even though I did kinda romanced Chloe in my playthrough, I didn't think hundreds of people should die just for her. Especially hundreds of people that I knew or at least had a connection with. Plus, I would've denied Chloe her redemption from selfish step-brat to selfless and mature young woman.

Why the fuck didn't she just narc on Jefferson/Nate at the start of the week AND warned people about the storm? If she was worried about her powers being exposed, she should've done it anonymously using the future freak occurrences as evidence. You'd think the devs would consider that since they were so intricate in the previous episodes.

I do agree about Jefferson's VA's performance in Ep 5 though. It was way too over the top when there was no prior indication of it.

As long as she saves Chloe, she still has her photographs from earlier in the week. After a few days of healing and preparing a plan, she can go back to earlier in the week (Like the one of her and Chloe in bed from Ep3) and tell Chloe they need to warn people, as well as tell David about the Dark Room/ Junkyard.
Only thing is from then on Chloe would have to do most of that since Max is stuck on 'autopilot' until she rejoins the present. So Max would come to with Chloe and have to find out what happened during the storm and with Jefferson/Nathan.

Tornadoes happen naturally. One could have come the following week and killed just as many people without any action from Max. Going by what Max and Chloe know, there's no reason to think Max's power caused the storm or that there would be a way to undo it (When Max already made changes before she saved Chloe that second time in the bathroom).

And I don't think it would make their relationship awkward. They would both have their own problems from that week and before to deal with together. The storm would just be a "you did what you could and that's enough."
Max does not have to be everyone's savior. She's just a person and you cannot ask a person to willingly give up a loved on like that. Max killed no one in Arcadia Bay, she merely decided she was not killing Chloe on a gamble. I would hope both Max and Chloe realize this as soon as possible that nothing was their fault.

They did not kill them. These things are completely out of their and anyone's control. This tornado is just as much a force beyond us as is any other tornado. For Max and Chloe there was the idea that they could prevent it. But that doesn't mean they are responsible for it.

Not least since they do not know whether going back would have actually prevented the storm, the guilt and blame could subside. There's forces at play beyond them, and they weren't controlling anything, and the idea is that they realize that - that they cannot rely on predictions and that they cannot follow considerations outside of themselves, but have to follow their own feelings; make their decisions free of guilt and blame. Not save Chloe because you think you are obligated to, and not save the town because you think you are, neither.

If you've had a week like that of things going south; a crazy time travel mess of unexpected and things that should not be possible happening all over the place. Do you then in the end really want to make your decision based on the idea that you can control and prevent it all? That you do this one thing and all will be well? Or do you follow your actual convictions, stick to those that have kept you going and alive throughout that week to begin with, have given you the will power to endure and given you the super power itself? And that without a doubt is Max's love for Chloe, and vice versa. What is destiny, what meant to be? The profound time-transcending once-in-a-lifetime connection that brought forward a universe-defying power - or the prevention of a disaster like there are countless others of?

It's tragic, but if the game tells us anything, it's that Max and Chloe overcome in their love for each other equally, if not personally more tragic things. So how do they get over it? With each other. Their love. The conviction that they are destined to be together. Their connection more powerful than the universe itself - so why succumb to a storm?

Yeah, you're kind of stuck guessing what happened to everyone else. That's a great source of annoyance even though there's plenty of plausible ways for the characters to survive.
My guess would be that since cell service in Arcadia Bay was knocked out during the storm, it would take a few days for Max & Chloe to hear from Joyce, David, Kate, Victoria, etc.

For Kate specifically, you can be pretty sure that she's made it. She was in a hospital during a storm that barely managed to tear down wooden buildings.

But that's all what you make of it. I and most here agree that the ending was too short, we would have needed to see Max and Chloe go looking, searching. Not only as closure for us or anything. But because that would mean that they are emotionally confronting themselves with what has happened, which would be a good psychological pointer for a future. ...Not that we'd necessarily require that to be at all optimistic, but it would have been more inherently optismistic, more of a narratively established optimism.

However, the intention of them just driving off obviously is that they are able to "look forward". That they won't dwell on the horrors of the past, but overcome them. Just driving of is a really bad way of showing that, since Chloe's story for example was all about how she had her whole life avoided and dreamt of running away - and only in reuniting with Max started to actually face and overcome her demons. So to mirror this narrative theme they'd have to show them confront themselves with the aftermath.

...But, maybe they actually did. Bodies are covered up, streets are cleared. We have no idea for how long they had stayed after the storm cleared, what they did. And you could even go full imagination and think of them just driving to the next town over to get supplies for all the people in shelters.

Honestly I've been starting to lean towards that they leave town a day or two after they've helped people and know their family and friends are in shelters.
The roads are cleared mostly, there's dew bodies in the street (Indicating they were recently pulled from rubble), and there's no fires. That doesn't seem to be the immediate aftermath of a storm. That looks more like it's into the cleanup.
When they drive out, Max isn't thinking just about the storm but in everything that's happened the past week. Or maybe the past five years. Same for Chloe, for all the shit that happened she looks pretty happy; Max came back, they're together, and she's going to get to live and makeup for her mistakes.

Yeah, while narrative intentions seems to be more about the concept of "all Arcadia gone, no looking back, we have each other and places to go", looking at it realistically, they'd be pretty shell-shocked if they had just come driving from the cliff and through the town. Max's slightly weary, slightly grieved, but also slightly composed and slightly optimistic, as well as Chloe's encouraging, understanding, empathic and optimistic smile and gesture (and the state of the town itself) are to me indicative of them having had time - maybe days - to deal with it all, and were not just coming from the cliff.

I'm not defending endings' consclucion but if we look at them emotionally:

In one of endings, you just let your loved one/soulmate die like that. Only you and your partner in crime (from the otherside) know everything. Nobody knows what happened except both of you. But eventually you're alone and there's nothing left to prove.

In the other ending, you're choosing your loved one and to Michel, you kill everyone! But your loved one is alive and said she'll always be with you and you said forever. The person you prioritized the most always will be there for you and you're not alone.

Nah, it's pretty simple really.

Take a fantastic game with qt girls, comfy atmosphere of the pacific northwest in autumn, great soundtrack and an interesting story. Then give it such a botched, half assed borderline fucking insultingly bad shit show of an ending that it forces the fan community to pick up the slack an try to salvage the wreckage with discussion, fan fics, fan art and anything else to try and fix something that has shattered into peaces as small as sand.

Expanding on this niceness that I also felt, playing through the game for first time slowly strips that away when you get into further episodes, going from this harmless teen drama to this existential crisis simulator to adult themes. What really made me feel something for this game is when I went back after finishing it and replayed episode 1. It was a feeling like I had come back to a place that I loved and missed and reminisced about.

Everything is just so soft and beautiful, the textures of the tree's and the lighting and the mood it sets with the light guitar music. Walking down the halls looking at everyone while "To All Of You" played. Experiencing that again brought such a huge waive of nostalgia even only after experiencing for the first time less than a year before the last episode. I felt a longing for this place, I wanted it to exist again without the knowledge of future episodes, something that can never happen. I just wanted those characters to be stuck in time on that day, so that they don't experience tomorrow and not go through the pain that will occur. The niceness that's there now is overshadowed by the future events and I never got to fully appreciate that place fully before playing the rest of the episodes.
