I got the teleport spell working. This means that all 19 spells currently in the game are functional now and have a spell icon. The last remaining bit is that 2 of the spells (cause light/heavy wounds) need a model/particle for their projectile. I might save that for later though since I don't know how to do art.

By that logic, action RPGs are harder because they have a bunch of features that turn-based RPGs don't have to implement. I think it takes more work to have realtime action than it does to make everything turn-based. You have to constantly check for collisions, handle player input, enemy movement, and more.

You mentioned you brought your assets into Unity. This looks like an issue with your shadow settings.
Play around with the shadow distance and the number of cascades. You can find this under Edit -> Project Settings -> Quality

fixed it by setting the near clipping distance of the camera from 0.1 to 1, no idea why that would cause such weird flickering

Idea guy post, but whatever. I'm currently giving models and art to a small game that's almost done and in my new time I've been writing up a GDD for my own game concept.

I want to keep it small, but with a kind of modular framework to potentionally build on more in the future. Anyway, the idea is a first person "space trucker" game. Basically you start the game on a planet and your ship is loaded up with cargo and your goal is to transport it to another planet. Once you leave the spaceport area and get in your ship all you need to do is hit the autopilot and the ship starts on it's way. Between your start planet and destination there are no obstacles or anything you are required to do to make the delivery run smoothly. Instead, the game is just going for a comfy feel while you walk around and play mini games, look out the windows at nebulas and stars and shit, or arrange stuff in your quarters or on the bridge. Looking at having music be importable into the game and able to be playing through in-game speakers in the ship and such.

The structure would allow for *optional* quests to come up where you are called to deviate from your original route, but never anything mandatory.

Maybe make a unified tech tree for your bunker, and stuff like solar stills will count in that tree, even if the physically get placed on the outside. Make the tent makable while in the bunker, then you can take it with you to the outside and deploy it when you need it?

i'd first rather direct newby people towards older development frameworks or utilities that have reached their end of life cycle, since those will have loads of reliable tutorial resources and threads in the web talking about it.

But with tumorware like Unity or UE 4 a newby can't even follow the offical tutorials because the base framework changes faster than online resources can keep up with.

I'd tell people to use UE 4 and Unity once they once they know what they are doing and not a moment before.

Just looking at how autistic and attached people get to sticking with their "homes" in open world games and building on that.

I just want something small a reasonable. I think building three environments (initial town/spaceport, spaceship interior, and second spaceport/town) and a variety of small minigames played within the ship is a very reasonable scope for a no-budget, one man game for somebody more art than programming inclined.

That's a thing I've covered recently. Each resource will have a short description with supplies being a kind of universal resource for most of actions with water purification tablets, cloth, basic medicine, nails, pots etc

You can go both, blueprint projects simply include template logic in blueprint form, not in c++ You can always click "add C++ class to project", which will allow you to add an actor or widget or anything using visual studio. It will also add a compile button to the toolbar, to recompile C++ parts of your game.

They seem to be pushing blueprints very hard though. Their documentation is really fer better for BP than C++

well, you can't really have much in a tent in encampment

have you seen any pictures of US camps in Iraq or smth. they pretty much only contain bunks and perhaps some kind of storage for personal stuff.

people don't really need much more then that. any reasonable person going away from civilization will have a mini stove and some kind of pot, both of which can be used anywhere at any time. this kind of portable food making equipment was standard equipment even during WW I.

instead you should add options to build useful equipment. like a land radar requiring an empty slot to be placed and a table somewhere in text to view the radar screen

standing antennea. walkie talkies themselves usually have a quite short range. antennaes can amplify the signal. you can also add upgrades to antennae that makes the antennae able to recieve radio signals from further away instead of only being able to send further. such antennae might need also a table to house the terminal. that terminal would be the place where user connects his walkie talkie to. that antennae also needs a power source. you could have car batteries or you could have gasoline generators somewhere outside the tent.

militiaries also use phones and custom phone lines. there is at least two phones and a shitload of cable. one roll of cable is around 1km long and weighs about 30kg. That way it is possible to communicate with people far away without greating radio noise. However, if some bad person finds the cable on the ground he can just cut it in half, and you have to go searching for the damaged part of the cable. These kinds of cable phones don't require external power source. They are powered by a wind up mechanism which generates enough electricity for the phone.

Out door kitchen. You might want something to make the squaddie morale go up. Out door kitchen is the first thing for that. It should be in its own tent and can run on either logs or electricity. Also it should contain a stove.

some get really stupid ideas and pranks and whatnot. in other words some people just start to fool around and eventually they fool around with the wrong things. for example like making prank radio calls to villagers making the angry with you.

when people are confined to a single place with other people for a long time, their personality traits WILL start to show and even may go to extremes. a chad goes super saiyan chad. a religious dude turns fanatic. a sadistic dude starts to express his nature more and more. basically the longer the waiting goes on, the more fucked up people become.

also long wait times allow lots of drama to develop. when people are on mission doing shit, they rarely have the time to encage in some petty drama, but when the most interesting thing one can do for days is just looking at sand, creating drama becomes almost a source of entertainment. Some people will even try to fabricate drama just to make their life there more interesting.

To be honest, I am talking from experience here. I recently finished my mandatory military service and I have experienced those things first hand.

I know. I tried them and was very, very impressed with how good it was. However, it was TEDIOUS. Doing basic arithmetic was a pain in the ass. Something that would take me less than a minute doing with traditional coding took me 10 minutes with blueprints.

The animation is stilted and in some cases half-finished (Drifter attack animations for example) and aesthetically the game just resembles a Tron version of Swords and Sorcery. Sprites with pixel-wide limbs and no detail, backgrounds that are flat chunks of colour with little texture, gradients and gaussian blur everywhere. Only now with neon lines here and there.

I want my player's chance to get a stat boost to decrease exponentially depending on how high the stat is
Like at Stat = 0 the chance of an increase is 100%, at Stat = 1 chance is 80%, at Stat = 2 chance is 50%, at Stat = 3 chance is 10%, at Stat = 4 chance is 2%, etc., something like that, ideally without ever reaching 0%

I tried doing Chance = previous chance / 1.25 but the decrease is way too slow (100, 80, 64, 51, 40).

Looking this up has only turned up stuff I can't wrap my head around. Any tips?. An example formula would help immensely.

But it's frequented by both game review sites and publishers, for example Devolver Digital picked up a lot of games from TIGsource.

But there's another point to be made though. Developers are the absolute early adopters of any game genre. If a game is good, devs would hype it. to use a douchey marketing term, help you cross the chasm to more mainstream audience.

To be fair, the generic syllabus/bibliography posted as a blanket for all teachers of one course is often pretty out of touch with what each teacher actually covers (in my university teachers can cover things in whichever way they want with whichever bibliography they want, according to their expertise/taste) so MAYBE the actual courses could be kind of interesting

I guess what I'll do is just not get my hopes up, show up to check out the first day, and if it looks promising I guess I'll try it because hell, after all it would count towards my optatives
