Why does everyone say faith is less viable in pvp than anything else? Talisman hyperarmor lets you tank hits and lightning nuke their face, plus you can follow up the staggering effect of that spell with a few swings from a suitably infused weapon.

Not really.
It uses BB's rolling difficulty, where earlygame stuff gets much more of a boost than lategame stuff.

Unfortunately, this means that the actually interesting lategame gains almost no extra HP or damage, maybe an extra swing at most, while earlygame stuff still only gets brought up to the approximate HP of midgame content while you're blasting them with +10 weapons.

Around NG++ or NG+++, lategame stuff finally gains enough to be noticeable. NG++ really ought to have been NG+. I imagine you'd have to be up around max NG+ before earlygame stuff started to feel like a real threat again.

I think that what would've been cool is whenever you defeat a Lord of Cinder, the game starts getting harder in other places, the sun gets eclipsed around one third of the way through and the rest of the game starts getting harder when you kill the lords, then when you get 2 3rds of the way, the darkness sets in even more. The way it affects the game world is that you can kill any like 2 lords (there are 6 and then the final area and final bossu you get to after getting all the requisite Lords or a secret area and a secret boss you can defeat to get access to an alternate ending), but defeating the first two will make the rest of the areas harder, they'll spawn more red eye enemies, get new NPC invaders, Pus of Mans and Black Phantom enemies and so on. But the catch is that the drops will get slightly better too like PBWT, and when you push to the final 2, the game world gets dark and the game sections get butt-clenchingly difficult and the boss might have an extra gimmick they wouldn't otherwise have had like either they get aid in the fight or the game world's darkness itself is aiding the boss.

That way the game would have more replay value too, because if you choose different levels at the start, you get to experience the hardmode of other levels.

Casters are heavily penalized by shitty tracking, a poor cast time/damage dealt ratio for most spells, and the fact that the roll button exists. Bloating your stats by an extra 20 points doesn't make them much better.

The only UGS that beats it is actually the propaned sword, and 40/40 is a higher stat investment than 66str

Plus the overhead 2HR1s are actually the best variant. They activate HA quicker and recover faster than the horizontal swings. The horizontal moveset has this painfully long windup where you pull the sword back, pause, and then begin swinging. The HA doesn't activate until the sword has passed your body. Vertical 2HR1s snap to the uptright position and are then brought down, without the long pause, and the HA triggers as soon as it passes over your head.

FUGS also has the longest reach of the weapon class and the closest they have to a usable WA

I just got to Cathedral of the Deep on a new character but realized I somehow have 9 charges on my flask. I know I picked up Wall, Settlement, Road, Keep, and Cathedral shards which would only put me at 8 I believe. To make matters worse I'm positive I picked up the same shards on my first character but am only at 7 charges on him. Is there any way to make sense of this?

I think they did alright with dividing the game into having Road of Sacrifices take you to Cathedral or the Farron Keep, but the problem is that the Cathedral is a dead end, while Farron takes you into 3 Lords. It should've been so that the Catacombs of Carthus is an area that acts as a connector of the overworld and you can get to the Catacombs from Cathedral as well, or that you could go to the Profaned Capital from the Cathedral instead of Farron Keep --> Catacombs --> Irithyll.

Or if you kill Emma early, the Dancer won't spawn until you get at least one Lord of Cinder so you don't have to deal with the Dancer's bullshit if you decide to go check out what's in the Castle.

Basically what they did is that they railroaded the player and gave only very bad choices or a nonexistant choice since you can't go to Irithyll unless you go to the Cathedral first so you feel like a dumbdumb if you do Farron first.

As you can see from the picture, there's pretty much only one direction of "progress", with the "optional" one being totally unreasonable your first time through and it gives you absolutely benefit except being a Gotthart shitter on low level.

I understand that making the game so that you have 5 or 4 ways to go early on would make the other areas too easy, but I think they could've honestly gone for 2 "main" routes with the Castle still being an option for early birds, then make the other one harder if the player chooses the other one first by having the eclipse happen and fugging up shit.

Great scythe is way more fun and viable than I thought. Even though it doesn't look it, the 2HR1 can outrange a FUGS. Old Wolf Curved sword is the only real dex-focused curved greatsword, and is actually really good in invasions because of the damage buff it gets. Knight is just for the extra FP for weapon arts. Forgot to add Sharp Claw and Refined Serpent Hatchet on this list.
