>>
Best origin for a SKL build? And what should be my secondary skill? strength?
>>
>>148756581
Soldier
Pump VIT and SKL, maybe a bit of END but not above 20
If you're going to use BoM, then maybe level a but of arcane for Augur
>>
>>148756581
Usually Professional or Military Veteran. Occasionally Cruel Fate depending if you want to use hunter tools a lot. Honestly though, if you're not retarded, just cycle through the origins in the character planner and pick the one with the lowest level for the stats you want.

As for your secondary skill, should you choose to have one, you have many options. You can go BLT for better use of the Chikage, Rifle Spear, and Reiterpallasch. You can go STR to maximize damage for weapons like the Burial Blade. You can go ARC for hunter tools like the Old Hunter's Bone or Augur. Take your pick.
>>
Is Bloodletter any good?
I want to try something else than the Whirling saw, but I'm afraid the scaling will be like Tonitrus.
>>
How to keep motivation for the BLT grind?
>>

>>
Ah, almost got him
I'll ring again
>>
>>148757515
The Bloodletter is a top-tier weapon, but it's just like the Chikage. If you don't have high BLT, the tricked form is useless for you.
>>
>>148757515
The Bloodletter is really good. Its dash attack is godlike, it gets a good amount of armor on its moves, and it has the L2. Even the untricked Bloodletter is usable if you have high strength, whereas high skill Chikage is still largely worthless.

And remember, don't respond to tripfags.

>>
>>148757910
>Even the untricked Bloodletter is usable if you have high strength
That's an understatement. At 50/50 STR/BLT i was hitting for insane numbers in mace form, literally stronger than full chikage blood mode charge. People only using blood mode of that thing is missing out half of the fun.

Guys are random 3v1 invasions and FCs still possible?
I abandoned the dream a couple of months ago and I regret it so much...
>>
>>148766721
FCs still happen on Saturdays, our last one died rather early.

The fight club has a Discord if you're interested in that sort of thing. You can find it in the last thread.

3v1s are less common, but they still happen. It helps if you invade someone doing co-op here.
>>
>>148766721
3v1s are always rare but they're still possible. I don't invade much anymore but I did fight a gank squad a few days ago in Mergo's Loft. I bet the DLC has some newbies summoning for Ludwig still so you can try there.

>>
Why does beast/frenzy meter show up when spending insight? I thought having high/low insight just changes your resistance to frenzy, not actually afflicting you with it when fluctuating.
>>
>>148788025
Your increased resistance to an effect is shown by the bar growing larger. That's what you're seeing.
>>
>>148788318
Seems like its building though. As though a winter lantern was attacking me. Then it gradually lowers but doesn't quite hit frenzy.
>>
Making a SKL build, currently level 75. I have 40 DEX and 40 VIT, should I dump the rest in VIT? I imagine putting more points in DEX won't help with scaling much.
>>
>>148787778
Beg pardon?
>>
Is there anywhere to find Striking Blood Gems? Do they exist in Triangular form? I found one on a Watcher after farming him 15 times, and then realized this would be amazing for the Stake Driver, but I need more, and I need them quick.
>>
>>148788487
50 on damage stats are optimal for weapons so I'd go 50 Skill. 40 Vit is fine, I usually stop at 45.
>>
>>148788487
The hardcap in Bloodborne is 50, not 40. You'd do well to put the ten more points into it, then put the rest in vit and any secondary stats you need for scaling.

If you're stopping at 98 like the /bbg/ meta, I'd suggest going to 45 vit, 50 skill and then put the other 8 in whatever bloodtinge you need to get the Reiter and the rest in strength for other weapons.
>>
>>148788440
The bar grew, the part that's full is the difference between it and what it was before you got whatever upped your resistance.
>>
>>148789027
Alright, makes sense. Thanks.

Is it inversely proportional? I know low insight is better for frenzy as resistance is higher but is beast mode enhanced or reduced by high insight?
>>
>>148788983
>>148788924
That sounds reasonable, but I could go 50 SKL/VIT and still have three points left over for whatever I want. I've been using the Reiter this playthrough, I don't know how useful it's gun is but it seems to be a decent weapon.
>>
>>148788487
>>
>>148789246
Beasthood is like the antithesis to kinhood, so low insight means a stronger beast.
>>
>>148789536
Seems like low insight is better for one's health for a lot of reasons.
>>
>>148789740
Yeah, but think of all the inhuman understanding and knowledge of the cosmos you could have
>>
>>148789904

For Lovecraft
>From Beyond
>The Picture in the House
>Dagon
>The Colour out of Space
>The Call of Cthulhu

Fantastic start, there. Those are my cream of the crop.

For influences/favourite authors
>Algernon Blackwood - The Willows, The Wendigo
>Ambrose Bierce - Mysterious Disappearances, Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge
>Edgar Allan Poe - not a huge fan myself, but The Case of M. Valdemar
>E.F. Benson - Caterpillars, The Face
>M.R. James - Oh Whistle and I'll Come to You my lad, A Warning to the Curious

Those are all great authors (even though I'm not really a big Poe fan). Blackwood's stuff is long and very atmospheric, get into the mood, it's well worth it. Bierce is straightforward and journalistic (Mysterious Disappearances is comprised of three very very short accounts: The Difficulty in Crossing a Field, An Unfinished Race and Charles Ashmore's Trail). Benson was an English writer who wrote just really good, very lucid horror stories.

However, I cannot recommend M.R. James enough, he writes ghost stories, and they're some of the absolute best in the English language. His descriptions of horrors and ghosts are god-tier, the two stories I recommended are some of his best work from a small body of stories. Warning to the Curious is my favourite. Read Oh Whistle first, then try Canon Alberic's Scrapbook, a very short story, THEN Warning. They're not connected, but you'll get a feeling of why Warning stands out among his works.

Most if not all that list can be found for free online.

>>148813317
No worries, anon, this is sort of my thing, and only a small fraction of what I could talk about! I'm glad I could prove you with some stuff to check out, these kinds of stories and authors need way more love.
>>
>>148814975
But she was pathetically weak for your average Souls boss standards.
Her movements are slow and extremely easy to dodge, she doesn't have any cool gimmick or anything that makes the fight a real challenge, even that move where he covers the place with fog and summons clones of herself can be deal with by just dodging to the side constantly.
>>
>>148815046
That they do. A shame about Lovecraft, that he could only get published in fucking pulp magazines of his time.

>>148815193
Eh, every game has a few tard bosses. Dark Souls had fucking Bed of Chaos, so I'll be thankful for the Nurse.

Besides, she's a corporeal manifestation of an infant Great One's power, she's not gonna be all that special.
>>
>trying to user Hunter's Mark during the Ludwig fight to save my blood echoes
Never felt more frustrated in my whole life.
>>
>>148815419
I personally enjoyed Wet Nurse because of the music, the arena(really just the moon hanging in the background), and the buildup throughout the entirety of Mensis.

But I'm a sucker for atmosphere, and would praise the fight if it was just whacking Mergo once and walking away.
>>
>>148816067
That's why I feel so dissapointed.
The whole build-up and the general atmosphere of the place was so fucking great that finding out that the boss was easily the easiest boss in the game made me really mad.
>>
>>148816067
Aye, she has probably the best presentation of any boss in the game. Mensis as a whole was great, and a welcome relief from the gothic everything up to that point.

I love Bloodborne, but I think its biggest failing was lack of varied environments.
>>
>>148815419
>That they do. A shame about Lovecraft, that he could only get published in fucking pulp magazines of his time.

Oh, don't get me started! I think it was partly his opinion of his own work, he always felt like he was an amateur, partly it was easy (although rarely fruitful) income that allowed him to do what he loved and in a way, his calling, since it allowed him to help so many younger writers.

When he died, Weird Tales went nuts re-publishing, people were beginning to read him abroad, but then August Derleth happened and ruined everything forever and here we are nearly 100 years after the guy's death and Bloodborne's one of the rare modern pieces of media untouched by the hilariously shit opinions of Derleth.
>>
>>148816717
Ooooh, story time; who's this August Derleth? One of those writers that took up Lovecraft's work and tarnished it?
>>
>>148816516
Honestly it would have done for a change up of its color palette. The concept art of Hemwick Charnel Lane looks great, vibrant browns and dusty yellows mostly. But as per usual it's just full of faded, dark colors to try and make the atmosphere as bleak as possible.
>>
>>148816897
He is considered Lovecraft's "sucessor".
Most people have mixed opinions about his works.
>>
>>148816930
That would help. It doesn't help that the first half of the game or so is incredibly well-connected... to the point where Central Yharnam all the way through Cathedral Ward feels like a single, extended area.

>>148817063
What did he do wrong?
>>
>>148816516
>lack of varied environments.

wot m8

Yharnam - Gothic architecture
Hemwick - rotting countryside and rustic windwills and buildings
Forbidden Woods - snakes and trees and colossal gravestones
Byrgenwerth - Victorian Neo-Classical
Nightmare Frontier - bizarre cracked stone, bleeding gravestones, ocean floor landscape, freakish sick sky
Lecture Hall - more neo-classical Victorian panelling
Cainhurst - ice-shrouded winter medieval castle
Mensis - mixture of medieval and nightmare stone

It's pretty varied.
>>
>>148817183
Bruh, when I found that path that led from the Forbidden Woods to the first floor sickroom it blew my fucking mind.

>What did he do wrong?

August Derleth was a contemporary writer with HPL. He wrote for the pulps, did some journalism, did some non-horror. But he's remembered as being HPL's 'successor' a wholly self-appointed title. Basically, he was the first fanboy. After HPL's death, he continued writing pastiches from fragments of HPL's ideas - and attached HPL's name to them. They were sometimes 'posthumous collaborations'. He attached his own Judeo-Christian beliefs and understanding on a bleakly atheist body of work and completely missed the entire damn point of Lovecraft's stories, mostly because he had such a chokehold on the work itself. Oh, and Derleth was a baaad fucking writer, you don't even know.

This is why I'll always, always say 'fuck Derleth' because people like to tout him as the only the reason anyone reads Lovecraft, when what actually happened is he approached publishers - during Depression, mind you - saying that he wanted to get an xbox huge volume of all of Lovecraft's stories, poems and bunch of essays done. Publishers had allegedly said maybe they'll publish a smaller set of volumes before committing to a huge project like that, but noooo, Derleth had to have it his way, so he decided he was the Chosen One (despite R.H. Barlow being HPL's literary executor, fuck laws), founded Arkham House publishing and started publishing. What's more, he had no legal right to do this and even threatened to sue people who wanted to publish HPL! And it all lead to an incredible misinterpretation of his stories that is still perpetuated today because of things Derleth did. Bloodborne is one of the very few modern pieces of media I honestly feel is untainted by Derleth's touch.
>>
>>148817917
I honestly never read any "Lovecraftian" work not written by Lovecraft so I don't really know what this guy did.
Anyway, the reason why we don't have any true Lovecraftian pieces of media nowadays is because people are too retarded and can't get Lovecraft beyond the "monsters with lots of tentacles" thing. I blame "Call of Cthulhu"'s fame.
>>
>>148818470
I think Eternal Darkness (game) and in the Mouth of Madness (movie) get it right.
>>
>>148818470
I haven't read any Derleth myself, but I think he had something to do with the whole "lol tentacles" thing. I'm pretty sure most of his works were about Cthulhu, I'd imagine that's the whole reason the Mythos is named after it, even though Cthulhu is relatively irrelevant.
>>
>>148818470
I've never read anything of Lovecraft's, it so happens, but isn't the gist of his stories that humans are tiny and insignificant ants on ground tread upon by beings so powerful they might be gods, but even those beings themselves are nothing in the bleak emptiness of the uncaring universe?
>>
>>148818718
Yeah. To overly simplify his writings, their general themes typically regard our insignificance and a fear of the unknown.
>>
>>148818718
You got it almost right, except for the last part.
Those being aren't inferior to the universe, mainly because one of them IS the universe.
The whole point of Lovecraft's works is (like you said) people comming to the realization that there is something bigger, older and way more powerful that them and it isn't just out there on the other side of the galaxy, but has been in their very own planet since billions of years before humanity even came to be.
There is no happy ending, there is no hero overcomign the odds and finding happines. We can't do anything against this beings and even if we try we are doing nothing but waste our time till the inevitable happens.
>>
>>148819063
>>148818951

So Bloodborne deviates from it in this regard? A single Hunter CAN in fact fight back against these beings, and win?

Or does this mean that they're only killing a physical appendage of something that exists in dimensions beyond ours.
>>
>>148819209
It's hard to say. Humans are so weak in Bloodborne that they call every giant cosmic being a Great One, but I'd imagine there's a large difference in "power", if that's a proper term for this, between Great Ones like Ebrietas and Oedon.
>>
>>148819209
The thing about Bloodborne is that we don't know if the Hunter ever truly kills the Great Ones or if he just destorys their physical bodies for a while. Thought a mere human managing to do that much kind of goes against the kind of thing shown in Lovecraft's works (boat nigger aside).
Even so, in the end we don't know if the Hunter actually manages to do shit against the Great Ones and he certainly doesn't even interact with the truly logic-raping ones like Oedon.
Also, the Hunter's humanity is a matter of debate.
>>
>>148819209
I wouldn't say Bloodborne is too much of a deviation. I think of it in relation to The Dunwich Horror, where the protagonists defeat the monster by using the same black magic that brought it about. Or The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath, where Randolph Carter defeats various servants of the gods, but only with the help of an army of Ghouls and Nightgaunts. The idea is that one can fight back, but only if they can somehow get onto the same level.

In Bloodborne, the Moon Presence runs the Hunter's Dream, and the Doll is some kind of kin or cosmic entity, so it can be assumed that your power derives from them, allowing you to fight the Great Ones. And by the time you fight the Moon Presence, you've consumed the umbilical cords and are on the way to becoming a Great One yourself.
>>
>>148819763
Isn't the Good Hunter actually distantly related to the Pthumerians?

And the reason he is even IN Yharnam in the first place is because he's got some blood disease that can only be cured by Old Pthumerian blood?
>>
>>148820179
Cured by paleblood, and I'm pretty sure paleblood is just the blood of kin and Great Ones
>>
>>148820179
>>Isn't the Good Hunter actually distantly related to the Pthumerians?
I don't think that was ever implied.
>>
>>148820179
We don't know anything about the Good Hunter, only that he is a foreigner and has disease that needs "paleblood" to be cured and which is never brought up again after the beginning of the game.
What I was talking about is that we don't know how "human" the Good Hunter is after he makes the pact and joins the Hunt.
Respawns aside, the Hunters seem to be capable of way more shit than your average human, and they also tend to turn into the most hideous monsters, even by Bloodborne's standards.
>>
Worst weapons for carrying you through the game:
-Kos Parasite
-Beast Cutter
-Wheel
-Rifle Spear
-Stake Driver
>>
>>148820605
The Good Hunter is a paleblood. That message was not for you, it was for the doctor. He was seeking a paleblood to transcend the hunt.
>>
Honestly why is this game such trash when starting a new game?

>No Blood Echoes at all
>No Farming
>No variety in equipment gear, rune, etc

Literally the only thing to do when starting new is just Speedrun bosses till you unlock paths to pick up items from
>>
>>148820896
Well, then he just needed regular Yharnam's special blood to cure his irrelevant illness.
My point stands that barely know anything about the Good Hunter.
>>
>>148820629
Add Amy's Arm there. Its damage is split between arcane and blunt, and those are the two worst types of damage in the game. It's also just slow to kill bosses because of its mediocre DPS, even if it can stunlock enemies you can parry anyways.
>>
>>148820605
Hunters start off pretty fucking powerful and skilled, and only get moreso.

>>148820031
I think what you're saying is right. The Moon Presence gives you a bit of its power in exchange for Blood Echoes, because it needs its Hunter chasing a carrot, and needs it to be effective in its duties. When you turn around and fight the Moon Presence, you're just using the power it granted against it.
>>
>>148820605
>hunters tend to turn into the most hideous monsters
Nah dude, that's clerics. Ludwig was basically a cleric, right?
>>
>>148821032
>No Farming

>>
>>148818470
>Anyway, the reason why we don't have any true Lovecraftian pieces of media nowadays is because people are too retarded and can't get Lovecraft beyond the "monsters with lots of tentacles" thing. I blame "Call of Cthulhu"'s fame.

You're unfortunately on the money. But that RPG is part of a longer tradition of bastardization. It just made all that more accessible.

I mean, that really is the gist of it, people think Lovecrftian means slapping on some tentacles and calling it a day as a direct result of the misinterpretation spread by the works of Derlth and people who came after who simply didn't know any better.

>mfw I helped inspire civil discourse about Lovecraft on a videogame board on a chinaman's cave painting website

I just wish it wasn't 6:30am
>>
>>148820896
I was about to ask how you knew the hunter was a paleblood, but if the doctor mysteriously disappeared and that note regarding paleblood was for him, then I guess that basically answered it. He used the player hunter to transcend the hunt. But then that begs the question, how did an outsider enter the dream and take part in the hunt? Isn't also weird how your character is just some random bloke, then all of a sudden after entering the hunter's dream everybody just starts calling him a hunter?
>>
>>148821475
Ludwig was the Healing Church's first Hunter, he wasn't a cleric.
Laurence and Amelia were both vicars and both turned into horrible monsters yeah, but Ludwig is still the scariest abomination Bloodborne has to offer.
>>
>>148821840
I don't know about normal people, but the Good Hunter enters the dream by making a pact with MP and turning into a hunter when the doctor does the blood transfer thing.
Of course, he doesn't find out that he did till later.

Now, how about 99 ARC with a Fire Stake Driver on a parried enemy who's coated in oil urn and standing in an oil puddle? I gotta wonder what damage could be racked up.
>>
>>148824340
Did they really need a Celestial Emissary? I thought the Church was just trying to make their own Great Ones.
Why would they need someone to communicate with Great Ones when they had a legit Great One in their basement?
>>
>>148824463
Perhaps the Emissary was how they were talking to Ebrietas, as some Mobs were seen hanging around the elevator leading to the Altar. And they were also probably prepping for the future. We can figure that there are Great Ones out there way bigger than Ebrietas, things like Oedon, that humans aren't going to be able to even properly comprehend.

Lost if you're a korean and plan to grind some of the hardest blood gems to get just for maybe 10% more damage than if you'd have gone physical, Normal otherwise
>>
>>148854014
You go lost either way. The only time you would go normal is if you want to focus on the sword form instead of the bow form, which is just stupid.
>>
>>148854184
It's not really focusing on the blade, it's focusing 4% less on the bow shots. In PvP you're much more dangerous when both forms do good damage and you can chain them unpredictably. Pew-pewing at a distance only works well in PvE, and with the S-scaling in SKL it's dumb to let 50% of the weapon's potential go to waste.

HOL UP

>Hydrocephalus (from Greek hydro-, meaning "water", and kephalos, meaning "head") is a medical condition in which there is an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the brain. This causes increased intracranial pressure inside the skull and may cause progressive enlargement of the head if it occurs in childhood, potentially causing convulsion, tunnel vision, and mental disability. It was once informally called "Water on the brain."

Research Hall patients have giant heads, the ones that grew so big they consumed the body are filled with "brain fluid"

Adeline and other patients speak of "the sound of water" in their heads.

Celestial Emissary and the other tiny blue ayy lmaos may refer to hydrocephalus affected children

Any fellow /tg/ here?
I love Bloodborne's lore and history so much, it'd love to give it credit by angling a tabletop campaign around it some day.
How would you go about it yourselves? Since combat is going to be shit anyway, I'd personally focus on the story and make people live through some of the defining events of the game's universe.
>>
>>148875009

Lad, Fake Iosefka is straight up mad doctor turning people into creatures. The entire Upper Cathedral Ward is filled with mad doctor-made slug babies.
>>
>>148886554
That and the events that led to the destruction of the fishing hamlet seem like they could make a good story, yeah. Tell me more, did you happen to participate in such a thing?
>>
>>148886926
I'll give you fake Iosefka, that's true. Just one Not sure what you're referring to in Upper Cathedral. Haven't seen any indication that those are made by doctors. Seem like more beasts and mutations caused by the blood moon and the old blood.
>>
>>148886093
I'd go with foreigners in Yharnam trying to survive a night of the hunt, but not an apocalypse, but a bad one with a few issues, some wife locked up in the attic has fully turned, plus a forgotten, rotten hole of vagrants in the sewers turned too and are now roaming the city. Hunters are out looking for the beasts, trying to usher people back into their homes. But you're foreigners, disposable. Find somewhere safe to hide the night out.
>>
>>148887603
UCW is where the Church high tiers do their nasty shit. The slug babies live in the 'orphanage', those were birthed by human women. The Celestial Emissaries, too, they're in the UCW and were too made by the Choir.

Even if they're birthed by women (which I don't see any indication of), it's not exactly what I'm going for Mad Doctor wise. Like I said, bypassing the cosmos and all that, just stitching together monsters and fiends. That kinda good stuff, no rituals.

The Emissaries are definitely people but were humans changing them or is this some type of occurrence due to their exposure to Ebritas? Not even sure of Fake Iosefka is a human being or something masquerading as one in order to change more humans.
>>
>>148887603
Don't forget what was happening in the Research Hall, as well. That came before what went on in the Orphanage and with the Choir later on.

The Emissaries were created by the Church, presumably with the blood of Ebrietas for the purpose of talking to the Great Ones. There is no evidence of any entity having a desire to change humans, False Iosefka uses Choir weapons, and was impregnated by a Great One. Therefore, she's human, so she's using the same techniques used back in the UCW to create the Emissaries.
>>
>>148890640
nvm died to a whale cunt
>>
>>148890787
Do we have evidence of Emissaries being made by the church to begin with or if they learned how to do so later?
>>
>>148891926
Not anything concrete, I guess. There are no Emissaries anywhere near another Great One, even with the Chalice Ebrietas. Furthermore, we know from the Research Halls that the Church was experimenting to try and create them, because the Living Failures resemble the Emissaries. And when the Research Halls were around, the Church had yet to discover Ebrietas.

All of this points at the Emissaries having been the result of a successful experiment by the Choir.
>>
What's the best STR weapon?
>>
>>148892214
Emissaries are right outside Ebritas in the chalice. But I see what you're saying. I thought Ebritas is what was found below the city and its blood was what started blood healing/the church.
>>
>>148893053
Arguably the saw. The wheel for damage if you have the perfect build.
>>
>>148893160
>right outside Ebrietas in the chalice
Forgot about that. The Emissaries definitely have something to do with Ebrietas, but they made by her blood, because Ebrietas isn't around the clinic where False Iosefka makes more of them.

They first discovered the Old Blood. What that is isn't clear, but it wasn't Ebrietas. She was discovered later, and was probably the breakthrough that led to the successful Emissaries.

>>
>>148901215
I feel like a lot of the reason Gascoigne gets a different moveset with the Hunter Axe beyond just being a boss is that he's much larger and probably stronger than the player character. If you played as an eight-foot-tall muscleman on the verge of beasthood, you'd probably be able to do all sorts of crazy shit with heavier weapons.
>>
>>148901475
How are you going to do the details on his scarf?
>>
>>148901509
It's not the Hunter Axe, though. Next time you fight him, keep a close on the axe in the cutscene and if you can look at him up close. It's a unique axe.
>>
>>148901724
i was thinking of getting one of those church scarves/shawl things they wear and bleaching it, then finding some way to gray it up somehow.

I really want to enjoy this game. The setting is great. I'm a huge Lovecraft fan. The story is very intriguing.
But I just am not having any fun with the combat. I've been around since demons souls and giting gud has never been my problem. I just... don't enjoy the combat here. It feels so repetitive, like the entire game is just dodge swing dodge swing dodge swing.
Am I missing something? Am I playing wrong? Maybe this one just isn't right for me.
>>
>>148908280
the stagger is such that most enemies can be stunlocked
I've found the fun to be managing multiple enemies while dodging rarely, using the trick attacks and seperate forms to control the flow
>>
>>148908280
It might just be you, because the combat functions with the same basic principals as every Souls game. The only thing really setting it apart is rally, and that's really just an extra crutch for the player

It can be much more R1 spammy than the other Souls games. The weapons they give you have such huge movesets though that I find a lot of fun in just using various moves to do fun shit instead of just R1 spamming.

Ebrietas isn't a great one. She's kin to the great ones. Great ones bleed red, kin bleed white. Orphan, MP, Amygdala, and Wet Nurse all bleed red. Celestial Emissary, Brainsuckers, Living Failures, and Ebrietas. Kin multiplier even applies to her, it does not apply to the real great ones.
>>
>>148909287
Speaking of, I'm actually super happy with the new block. Innistrad was dope, and now that I've played so much Bloodborne I've gained even more appreciation for that kind of design.

SOI and EMN feel so much like Bloodborne and I love it.
>>
>>148912590
Wet Nurse doesn't bleed. I fought her last night and black shadows pour out when you hit her. To support your claim though, the game confirms that the Brain of Mensis is a legitimate Great One, and it bleeds loads of red when you kill it.
>>
>>148912716
Yeah, I always loved Gothic horror. That was by far my favourite set. Early on I thought I'd hate SOI but they did a pretty good job, I was impressed. Bloodborne is a nice addition to this kind of media. Best one I got actually.

The wet nurse isn't a nightmare. mp and orphan also are also not nightmares. Micolash beconed the nightmare of mensis, Mergo sustains it. mp created the hunter's dream, it is a cosmic being being. Kos created the hunter's nightmare, the orphan exists within it. Regarding the last part, I think the actual orphan was killed in the waking world by Gehrman, but I could be wrong.

I meant, when you kill mp/wn/orphan, only for them it says nightmare slain.

Oh fuck I get why, when you kill each of them you literally slay the nightmare dont you? Orphan is the old hunter nightmare, Wet nurse is the nightmare of mensis and Mp is the hunter's nightmare/dream.

>>148920936
By killing them you destroy the nightmares. Again, they are NOT nightmares, they SUSTAIN the nightmares/dreams the reside in. Also Wet Nurse is just protecting Mergo, which is the baby that you hear crying in the game. You destroyed the Nightmare of Mensis by killing Mergo, not the Wet Nurse.

Yeah that's pretty much completely pointless because you won't be using strength gems. Have 12 strength and no more so you can use the church pick, also have 12 bloodtinge for the Reiterpallasch. >>
>>148924886
Waning has the best bolt (and fire?) gems. Also allows for 21.5% Nourishing's, which Triangle also does but you can't have two Triangles, so R/T/W is ideal for split damage weapons.

I wish they'd been more creative with Gem slots on alternate varients of Weapon, where's my Triangle, Triangle, Radial Kos Parasite? Or Circle, Circle Waning Bloodletter? Or Radial, Radial, Radial Beast Cutter?

Honestly I think it would be better if there were consumable items which changed gem slots that were farmed from Dungeon coffins that allowed you to make any combo except 3 of the same kind.

>>148925376
Go 50 Skill 50 VIT 15 END 10 Bloodtinge, put the rest into Strength until you get to 98.

Find out the ideal numbers at https://www.mugenmonkey.com/bloodborne

Putting a little bit into STR will help most of your weapons in terms of damage and as a skill character you'll have a lot of points left over anyways. I strongly recommend getting your bloodtinge to 10 and picking up the Reiterpallasch, it's a personal favorite of mine and it's very capable of getting you through the game. Rifle Spear is mediocre for carrying you but not undoable, a challenging run is more memorable than an easy one

Any given build only has two stats they need to focus on, three if it's quality, and that means your builds can be done as early as level 70~, depending on what you think is necessary.
>>
>>148931453
Have you done Chalice Dumgeons? Since a single layer of a Depth 5 will likely give you enough echo's to level up a few times.

My first ever character before I had PS+ got to 170 just by Platniuming the game and never grinded, I just spent Echo's if I had them.
>>
>>148932036
I pretty much did everything except the final dungeon where Queen Yharnam is located before jumping into the DLC.
I guees I'll go through the Chalice Dungeons again, at least they are kind of different everytime and wouldn't be as annoying as farming in the area before Mergo's Loft over and over.

Don't just do Preset Chalice's again, that's boring as hell.

Look in the OP for some glyphs that contain stuff you want (Blood Rocks, Lost/Uncanny weapons, Runes, Specific gems etc...) and do them.

A Depth 5 Cursed dungeon will give you 150k+ from a single boss, plus another couple hundred thousand from clearing the enemies AND you walk away with a useful item.

I suggest going for the 20% Stamina rune, 15% HP rune, the 3 Bloodrocks and some 27% Physical Gems as a starting point. They will help your build a lot if it's pure physical.

Can someone explain to me exaxctly how Bone Marrow Ash works? In my first Webm I hit a guy with a +6 Cannon BMA'd for 560 Damage. In the second Webm its the same +6 Cannon but with no BMA and it hits for 643.

Obviously victim no. 2 was naked, but does Armour really make that much difference? I would have thought Bone Marrow Ash would have a much larger effect on damage than whatever Blood Defense the hunter set has.
>>
>>148934078
You literally just answered your question, fuck the game even tells you what it does. It increases the damage of your firearm significantly for one shot.
>>
>>148934137
Yeah, but is it a flat bonus or % multiplier? How does is it increase damage and why did it seem to have a neglibable effect in the Webm?

Although im beginning to think Victim no.2 was counter-hit, since a +6 Cannon doesnt even have 600 base-damage, and that character has BLT at base.

I think it's just how much Vit the player had left. Sometimes when someone has like a shred of health left your next hit, regardless of AR, would come out as a 1 or 2 digit number when it's normally 3. Both of those guys you killed had different amounts of health you took out in one hit so it's different numbers. As to how much damage BMA adds I don't know.

Ludwig certainly is a special case, and that is interesting. The sword kept him human for a long long time until all that built-up beasthood just exploded. It clearly still has the same effect, but it's purely mental. It's some Pthumerian spookiness that's flawed, because he's still a grotesque, misshapen horror. Another tragedy for this pile of Gothic tragedies.

Stopped playing around October because doing chalices was fucking hell. How is the old hunters dlc? Worth the twenty bucks?
I guess I will buy it since I plan on replaying it. Any important changes in the game?

Thank you and god bless
>>
>>148941481
DLC is well worth $20, it's fucking incredible.

I think there was a couple balance changes that came with the DLC, most notable probably being that Rating 20 Heavy and Cold (STR and ARC scaling) gems are now super powerful, allowing some stuff that wasn't feasibl before. But that's endgame chalice stuff, so it probably won't affect you.
>>
>>148941481
Old Hunter DLC has some of the best content in the game so its definently worth it. There was an update right before the DLC that added more optional summons even if you don't have the DLC and play offline (as long as you have the update of course). A new NPC and covenant was added too. Blood Rocks can be purchased with 60 insight.
>>
I really like the Reiterpallasch, but I'm also using an Evelyn in my left hand and I can't seem to find a situation where firing the Reiter's gun is ever useful.
>>
>>148942104
>>148942226
Nice, just bought the DLC.
I'm pretty excited, except I don't know what to make my character. I've had an arcane/wheel build and stenght and bloodtinge builds too already.

I will probably make something for one of the new weapons, which ones are cool?
>>
>>148942501
The giant pizza cutter is fun
>>
>>148942501
Strength/Bloodtinge is viable now that there's like 3 weapons that benefit with Strength at 28+ (Bloodletter, Gatlin Gun, Church Cannon). Make sure you have 50 Bloodtinge though for the best use of them.
>>
>>148942501
There are quite a few new STR weapons in the DLC, as well as a new ARC weapon at the very end of it.
>>
>>148942501
SKL got two really nice weapons, the Saif and the Rakuyo. Both are god-tier both in PvE and PvP.
>>
>>148942501
The DLC introduced the two best SKL weapons in the game: the Rakuyo and the Beasthunter Saif.
>>
Thank you guys. There's more new weapons than I expected. Looks like I'll be replaying this more than once. Or perhaps I'll level my old characters to play it in NG+ as well.
>>
>>148943172
If you ever need help with the bosses or just wanna jolly co-op you can always hit us up here. Also, what those two Skill anons above you didn't mention was the Church Pick which imo is better than the Saif and Rakuyo, especially in PvE.

Parry someone with the Rieterpallache and then you can shoot them with a pre-BMA'd Evelyn (or cannon, or even the Torch) to get the 2x multiplier. Also you can spam bullets from both hands for a gunslinger build with Yharnam hunter Garb and either Gascoigne's hat or Old Hunter cap.

>>148942501
Honestly you can't go wrong with any build, STR, SKL, STR/ARC, STR/BLT, SKL/BLT and pure ARC all got something.

I'd suggest a quality build, so you can use a bunch of different weapons, or if you want an actual optimised build maybe Skill, since you havnt done that before.

How long ago was Old Yharnam sealed off?

The fact that its called Old Yharnam and the note implies it happened the last time the moon was read (probably when Rom 'ascended?) kind of suggests it was a while ago, but bodies are still smouldering and some are still actively on fire?

Who is burning the bodies of beasts? It isn't Djura or his pal, since they want you to leave the beasts alone.

BRAVO MIYAZAKI

>>

It's a huge ass warning sign to anyone wandering in from somewhere. Probably for regular Yharnamites, since a Hunter will come face to face with the written warning, which, by the way, was pasted over the inside of the door. Djura can get to that door from somewhere else, where other Yharnamites might wander in from. The crucified beasts are just a big ass warning.
