If you have a small stamina bar, then it's usually not. If you use weapons that are very stamina efficient, then it's usually not.

Chloranthy is best when paired with a large stamina bar (eg. 30+ end investment) and weapons that chug stamina (eg. ultras, carthus curved sword, etc.)

Butcher's Knife is probably the best axe-classed weapon.
Manserpent's Hatchet is the best axe that's actually an axe.
Winged Knight Twinaxes can be good in a gimmicky sort of way. Their L1s generally do 400 damage a hit, as much as most ultras, while being respectably fast. They just lack reach.

For greataxes:
The Greataxe can combo its 2HR1s but has shit range
Yhorm's is better than the greataxe in every way and longer than most halberds/spears, but can't combo 2HR1s and its unique R2s are really bad
BKGA is the highest AR and highest damage per hit, and can also combo its 2HR1s while also having a unique moveset, but has the highest stamina costs in the game and is slower than normal greataxes. It's mostly just used as a riposting tool due to high AR.

Dragonslayer's Greataxe is like Yhorms but slightly shorter and with split damage, so less damage per hit but higher listed AR. It deals the most riposte damage in the game and, when properly built, can 1-shot any character regardless of level or vigor investment.

The rest of the greataxes are shit and not worth noting.

The entire point of the medium shield is that it does everything decently enough. If you have a parry shield or caestus out they know to expect it and just punish you instead. A medium shield keeps they wary without completely putting them on alert.

That also means that, unlike the main game, they have time to thoroughly playtest their bosses and improve them from the original concept. That's how they get shit like Artorias having like 5 different input-reading counterattacks, or Fume Knight having combos timed to player rolls to punish people for panic-rolling instead of watching and timing.

I'm invading in the Settlement as a Mound-Maker called Lead Knuckle Meg in a thrall hood and bandit armour, wielding nothing but caesti, and all I get is ganksquads kitted out in endgame gear(seriously, one phantom had the twin princes' greatsword, and it only gets worse from there), and absolutely nobody even considers playing along with shenanigans.

Whip's play by passively kiting. They never have to attack within range for you to punish them, and have very little recovery either way. Any weapon that relies on trading or punishing won't perform well, so ultras aren't a great idea.
Use a weapon you're comfortable being very aggressive with (so one that's reasonably fast/low recovery) and stay close. The only things you really have to watch out for are the rolling attack and the WA.

So, what will it be? A bow? A whip? Something else? And I started as a Herald, so I'm rolling with Faith.

Also, should I reroll and use Gargoyle Flame Spear instead? What are the optimal stats for using it effectively?
