Looks like it.

1st theme>8s BF theme>all of the others except 11s first theme>11st first, godawful theme
I like the theme to be mysterious and eerie, not dramatic, disco, funky, epic, rocking, or whatever else :/
>>81960332
HYPE, I hadn't read the descriptions for this yet, sounds kino,I might actually preorder
>>81960128
Hey Cloister. I also really love the Torchwood audios. Did you listen to Doll House? I really really liked it, and the characters. Even though it was just a throwaway line, I couldn't get over the idea ofa pretty Latina princess driving a Terileptil Cruiser.
And yeah, the first story is a followup to Parting of the Ways.
>>81960259

>>81960386
Not yet, might listen to it tomorrow actually! Were the new characters neat? Might we follow them in further stories too?
Really hype for the Captain Jack audios too now, although a bit confusing that they're not in the Torchwood range.
>>81960342
Agreed. I hate the current one too.

t. Murray Gold
Well, I started listening to the Eighth audio-adventures, and Storm Warning was cool, but Sword of Orion and Stones of Venice was sooooo boring that I barely finished listening. May I skip everything before Neverland? Or are there stories worth listening to?
>>81960259
The Keff McCulloch theme is a thing of beauty. Anyone who thinks otherwise can fuck offerino.
Like, honestly, this sounds like a fucking parody
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCD_Aw9RXxU
The start is nightmarishly busy. All the pulse of the Derbyshire theme is gone amongst that horrible cacophony of squeaky bouncy sounds, brass, that dumb ascending little motif, lightning sounds...it's a fucking mess. The whole triumph of the Derbyshire theme was Derbyshire making an eerie, spooky work of brilliance out of Grainer's more standard melody. Gold doesn't just take it back to standard, he forces it into an overproduced chaotic pit of bad decisions. I love Gold's incidental music, but his themes are shocking.
>>81960772
Absolutely listen to The Chimes of Midnight and Seasons of Fear, if nothing else. Maybe check the descriptions of the audios on the BF site to see if summaries interest you.
>>81960772
At least listen to The Chimes of Midnight and Seasons of Fear.
>>81960036
If his entire character is his name, then no. A bit of a waste considering how talented Ralf Little is.
>>81960816
I like Gold's first go at the theme, but pretty much spot on otherwise.

It'd make a decent alt theme for The Prisoner https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWTdmwwK-ME But doesn't really match DW at all. Mayyyybe Pertwee era.
>>81960990
It's a really good song imo, it just doesn't fit with the show. Why did they think this would work for a show about an old man walking around and getting into trouble?
Have a smile everyone!
What's /Who/ with you guys? Been doing a rewatch of New Who, interlocking similar episodes of the classic series to watch as I go.
Onto Christmas Invasion, but just watched that "Born Again" scene from Children in Need, and my God, I'm not Tennants biggest fan, but I can see his charm, but he is awful in this scene. What makes it worse is that it's not even the first thing he filmed either...
>>81961279
>interlocking similar episodes of the classic series to watch as I go.
Ooh please expand on this, what eps for what eps?
>>81960598
>tfw wanderer is gay and racist
It's like the opposite of Immigrant
>>81961364
Well, I've been watching when there's little references or when episodes I find are quite similar. So for example, when I watched Rose I watched An Unearthly Child (because it's the first episode) then Spearhead from Space and Terror of the Autons straight after.
It's kinda cool watching new episodes then looking back at the references from the classics. Not sure what to view after The Christmas Invasion though
Based Daps is the new TooManyTime who was the new TooMuchTime
So, general reactions to Smile? I was surprised; I went in with lots of doubts, but the only big issue was the resolution. Felt a little rushed to me. But man, Bill is fantastic. Mackie continues to surprise me. Let's hope she keeps that trend up.
>>81961504

>>81961633

>>81961677
Did TooMuchTime do facewarpery? I remember him posting screen caps and hitting the image limit. Which iirc is how he got the name, having toomuchtime on his hands to make a bazillion screencaps.
>>81961633

>>81961500
>Not sure what to view after The Christmas Invasion though
The OG Christmas special, The Feat of Steven.
>>81961788
Oh no. I don't dare. I haven't actually got through it before and I really doubt I can now.
There must be something better than that to watch after this.
>>81961558
Pretty much agree, everything up until the robot gets shot is comfykino, but the ending was kind of lame. I don't get why he needed to realize that the robots were developing to sentience to be able to reset them. And in general, "the Doctor resolves the episode by finding out which thing to sonic and sonic-ing it" endings aren't great.
>>81961866
I guess there's Castrovalva, it's another new Doctor story where the new Doctor spends a lot of time asleep and the companions have to take care of him and fend for themselves.

nice shout anon, it wouldn't have hurt to have been 2 episodes long
like the conclusion would have been finding the humans
then next episode they deal with the huge problem with a lot of suspense or something
I've loved Bill so far
and I told myself I'd drop this season if they bring up her sexual preferences in that episode
but they didn't
I'm so glad they're giving her a character and not just a prop to use to show they're progressive
she's brilliant
>>81961921
the way I saw it was
they learned what grief was when they lost their amigo, then he reset them and the grief setting was saved maybe

>it wouldn't have hurt to have been 2 episodes long
What would you expect to see in another 45 mins of this?
>>81961921
Should have put in a scene earlier in the episode where Bill shows the Doctor how to reset a laptop or something as foreshadowing.
>>81962230

>>81962372
That's right. My bad fellas. TooManyTrips for me to keep straight amirite? Anyway I suppose the homage comment still stands, just not their true identity. My headcanon says TooManyTime issmallfat
>>81962434
Why do the titles look so much better than the actual show's? Is it budget? You'd think they'd stretch for something that's meant to be iconic and appears in literally every episode. They put Capaldi's face in but it looks like shit, like they got a jpg of it, increased the contrast all the way and pasted it in. Fucking hell I hope Chibnall brings in a good opening sequence.
>>81962370
I'll give them a watch soon, I haven't seen much Davison, but the bits I have I really enjoy him playing the Doctor.
To whoever posted this on the wiki I love youNow this is a story all about how
My life got flipped-turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute, just sit right there
I'll tell you how I saved the Earth by dying in a flare
In the shit stain of England, born and raised
On the TARDIS was where I spent most of my days
Aunty Pat was a Zygon, which was not cool
So I left to shag Alex; my personal stool
When the Monk and the Daleks were up to no good
Started spreading viruses where they could
I lost the use of my legs and Susan got scared
She said, "You're comin' back to England, we’ll give you a wheelchair!"
I tried calling the Doctor day after day
But he didn’t pick up, that fucking wig-haired gay
A resistance amassed and we learned the Daleks’ shit
There was a Dalek mineshaft, so we said "Might as well fuck it!"
The Doctor lands, and at last!
We went to go confront that meddling cunt-faced ass.
The Daleks turned up and then a few of us fled, like;
[Zooooooom], we ran outta sight.
We searched for a spaceship when all was clear
We brought a bomb onboard and then we started to steer
The Daleks killed Alex and Susan shed a tear
And I thought, "Ah, fuck you Daleks."
– "It’s time to despair."
I pulled up to the mineshaft to meet my fate
And I yelled to the Daleks, "I’m Lucie Bleedin’ Miller!"
I pressed on the button, and all went red
And that was how I became fucking dead
>>81962266
if the climax was humanity waking up then I guess it would have been a Satan Pit like episode

>>81963016
I liked it a lot but it was kind of meh after everyone wakes up. Pearl Mackie did a really great job with the scene where Bill sees what happens to humanity, but I feel like the scene was out of place, like it should have been in a more dramatic episode. Just seemed a bit too brief.
>>81963016
Seen it before when robots were crazy women in colourful wigs. Didn't like it then. Don't like it now. The premise of misguided AI is way overdone. Ending is rivalling Zygon Inversion for level of derangement.

might be one of the worst serious theme renditions ive ever heard
>>81963016
I enjoyed it. Murray Gold is composing like moffat threatened his family, cinematography was great. Bill continues to be a nice change of pace. Her and 12's interactions are pretty sweet, like her thanking him genuinely for taking her. Capaldi never fails to delight. It was much better than I expected the recycled robot prop episode to be.
>>81963486

> Bill continues to be a nice change of pace. Her and 12's interactions are pretty sweet, like her thanking him genuinely for taking her.
Agreed, they have really nice chemistry. I'm already liking 12/Bill better than 12/Clara.
>>81963983
Yes. This is 2017.
>>81963807
Sorry, it seemed less so than 'historically', the other word I grappled with for sake of flow. 'How its always been' seems clunky and my vernacular is just lacking this morning. That scene's social commentary seemed a bit tacked on but whatever. At least she didn't bitch about aborting eggs over an omelet.
>>81963016
Bill/Twelve is already shaping up to become a new Ten/Donna and I love it. It is a shame Capaldi is leaving already because we should have gotten a couple seasons with them. Their chemistry is miles better than Capaldi and JLC.

Nardole is giving Doctor a blowjob
I saw someone on the last thread saying the Scottish joke was insensitive. And someone said the same thing on Twitter. Are of these people Scottish? Have they ever met anyone Scottish?
Wanting independence from England is not generally considered an offensive stereotype.
I'm assuming it's Yanks complaining. So imagine "Americans declared independence everywhere they landed". Would a single person in America be offended? No, you'd all be cheering and having another drink and chanting "4 July" while at the same time having a little chuckle at yourself.

Just watched Smile, so far a great start to the series and I liked the cliffhanger ending it looked a lot like classic show's cliffhangers. And hell yeah those synths in the soundtrack I love when future episodes' soundtrack have a lot of synths. The second half of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_imxnFM51hE when the synths kick in is still my alarm clock a couple of years later.
>>81965147
Also, Capaldi would hardly have said the line if it was offensive to Scottish people. (Do Scots even get offended at things? Don't they just hit you with a bottle of Buckfast?)
>>81965291
Clockwork time vortex is a good idea but they made it really bland and boring
why is every torrent of yesterday's episode fucked up
>>81965515
don't bother looking for a full one. The torrents cut off just before the episode goes to shit
>>81965398
>>81965209
The BBC did get a couple letters complaining about the joke in Terror of the Zygons where the Doctor implies the Brig is cheap because his last name is Stewart, even though the episode was written by a Scotsman named Robert Stewart.
Presumably it was only a couple letters because [insert stock illiteracy or drunk joke—which was probably written by a Scottish comedy writer in 1950—and he was probably drunk].
>>81965515
There are good torrents of it out there. But the 40-minute ones are the same file size as the 45-minute ones, and none of the good ones are labeled PROPER, so…without comments, it's next to impossible to tell which is which.
The one that showrss picked up is one of the good ones, if that helps you.
>>81965398
>>81965209
Deep Breath, written by Steven Moffat, had the "I'm Scottish? I'm Scottish! Ooh, I can complain about things now" and "I don't know, but I probably blame the English". (The leaked workprint version had bagpipes playing in that scene, which made it even better.)

Donna had that "he's a good mate, but that doesn't mean I'm going to fall in love with him and/or worship him like a god" thing that Bill has. But the only reason she could react like a real person to alien shit was an implausible running gag. And her needing to find her place in the world meant she needed to get married and buy a house. And she was just an ordinary woman but that was okay because there were hints that she was going to be the most important companion ever.
Bill's looking to be even better than Donna in all the ways Donna was good.

Imagine if this had been how they announced Peter Capaldi as 12.
Will we get a scene this series as kino as the "breaking the wall" moment in Heaven Sent? The kind of scene that gives you fucking goosebumps. Which episode this series do you think has the best chance of reaching that level of kînó?
For me I think the Truth three parter with 12 being evil will make for some great shit, seeing Capaldman as a villian will be amazing. Also the series finale having both multiple types of Cybermen AND a multi-master story has me worried it'll be a total clusterfuck, but it has the potential to be seriously fucking GOAT if Moff can manage to pull it off
>>81966439

He's made a promise to guard the vault, he's not being forced to do it.
>Your oath sir? You're not supposed to go off world unless it's an emergency
I think Nardole is employed under the Doctor as a sort of servant, but it's been a long time for them and they've developed a close relationship. So Nardole isn't afraid to challenge the Doctor anymore, and he's acting as the voice of reason. Reminding him of his oath to guard the vault when the Doctor is evidently bored as fuck
>>81967110
That would've been so much better.
Like the whole show just stops for a few seconds and we get a "Introducing Peter Capaldi as the Doctor" over a slowed-down version of that shot

Moffat fucking loves doing things like that.
>>81967242
Reminder that Gareth Roberts once gave /who/ his "big love"
>>81967194
I kind of imagine it was more of an all-at-once thing than a gradual thing. Like the first time Nardole tried a passive-aggressive if-you're-sure thing, the Doctor said, "I'm not Bertie Wooster, just tell me when you think I'm doing something stupid, and I'll call you stupid but then take it into consideration anyway".
>>81967138
Sarah Dollard will give us all chills next Saturday with her brave statement against the patriarchy
>>81967196
I don't know about that, the slo-mo shot would ruin the pacing of that whole scene. Also unlike the War Doctor one, it wouldn't be at the end of an episode, so having a big title come up mid episode would just be weird.
I think maybe if it was a longer scene. With the Gallifreyan whoever shouting "No sir" as we see the back of someone who isn't 11 running around the console and he loops around so he's facing us and we see that it's Peter Capaldi as he shouts "All 13"
And then there could be an "and Introducing Peter Capaldi as The Doctor" during the credits.
>>81967395
I thought that was more a Tregenna thing
From Pearl Mackie's bit in Whovians:

The greybeard one:
>I did enjoy this episode because I hated the last one that Frank Cottrell-Boyce wrote, In The Forest of the Annoying Children, it was one of the worst episodes ever and it made no sense at the end and I was just dreading this episode, and then when it was funny, it was fast, it was scary at points, I was like "Oh! It's good! I like it!"

The emoji bots were never anything close to threatening but god damn were they cute
I know, maybe it's not very appropriate thread, but where can I find some mentally retarded/unstable people in the internet? I mean, to have fun with them.
I'm talking about Oligophrenic, Feeble-minded people. They usually sit at home and do nothign, but sometimes their parents/caretakers allow them to scroll net, so they eventually join social networks.
But I find it pretty hard to find a really oligophrenic person.
I'm being serious.

Why is it that when international road signs were standardised, the result was a lot duller than the local idiosyncratic stuff like East Germany's Ampelmann, but when emoji were standardised, the result was cute and managed to include wacky stuff that weren't in the original competing standards?

well emoji were a big thing in Japan since the 90's, hence the ~~kawaii desu ne~~ look they have, so then when western phone manufacturers expanded into Asia they just used Japanese emojis.
Of course now every messaging systems emoji's are slightly different but they all pretty much stemmed from one messenger system in Japan.

Road signs are designed to give you safety-related information even when you're traveling past them at 100kph, so whimsy will always lose out to function. With emoji, one of DoCoMo's ads said that if you don't use emoji, your texts look like stock price updates and women won't read them, while Softbank showed two kids using emoji to communicate in a way their parents couldn't understand.
But it really was the international standard that pushed things into overdrive. The Japanese (failed attempt at a) standard had decided that a stick figure was the best way to represent "Dancer", but for the Unicode standard, Google convinced everyone that Apple's red-dressed salsa dancer was the best way, and in fact they should change the name from "Dancer" to "Salsa Woman Dancing", even though this meant Google would have to ditch their own disco-king image for the character.
That's not the kind of thing that happens in industry consortium standards meetings. I assume it's because this standards meeting was attended by a bunch of Japanophile graphic designer types, because they were the only people at Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc. who cared at that point.

- eccentric, quirky personality
- good comedy resume

He's not my first choice, but I could definitely get excited for him.
And watching people make a big deal out of "First Jewish Doctor" when he's only 25% Jewish wouldn't be nearly as annoying as watching people make a big deal out of "First Irish Doctor" for Kris Marshall when he's 0% Irish.

PATRICK TROUGHTON ALIVE CONFIRMED
>>81969442
Actors have such good teeth it makes me feel jealous.
>>81971732
Trying to imagine him doing monologues. Comparing to Capaldman's gravelly deep voice, no just can't.
We'll see.
>>81972696
I like him especially since I love Friday Night Dinner. Not sure as The Doctor though.
>>81971732
He's 13? But he looked 16, officer, and he had an ID card!

I read it. It was rather good, though more an adventure story than deepest lore.

WHAT THE FUCK, TROUGHTON?
>>81972867
Which ones did you like the best?
>>81972966
I said them a while back GI ;_;
>>81972378
No. It's because Capaldi has always been naturally lanky and had baby fat until he was in his 30s. Take this gif for example from his character on Dangerous Liaisons.
>>81972733
>not sure if joking
>>81973019
Ok. And your point is?
>>81972951
Gareth tried to warn us
>>81973106
No point needed. The thread has been pretty homo so far so I just wanted to join the bandwagon.
Also wanted to say that Faceapp is not accurate and usually fucks the younger versions pretty badly because it is incapable of assuming that some people have baby-faces until they are in their 30s
Immigrant, pls write some Ten/Tentoo/Rose nsfw, with one of the Doctors in the middle
(゚∀゚)
The interesting thing about Moffat's episodes when he worked as a writer under RTD, which are very popular on here, is that their pacing felt just right. They created suspense by slowing events right down when they needed to and created that 'scary' atmosphere.
I think we all expected a series to be more like that when he took over from RTD. But for whatever reason it didn't turn out that way. In a way I suppose that although RTD seemed to do more slapstick and silliness overall, which Moffat ended up doing more and more, RTD overall actually dealt with darker subject matter.
Even in his much later episodes with Tennant he dealt with the darker aspects of the Tennant Doctor's personality where he had his own hubris to deal with and the story even used that as one of the reasons why he needed to regenerate soon. The Tennant Doctor had to deal with his own ego I mean, not RTD.
It may be a crude and simplistic way of looking at it but perhaps the Tennant Doctor was a balance between The Ecclestone Doctor's darkness and the Matt Smith's Doctor's lighthearted take, and that may be a strong component as to why he's still seen as popular as he is to this day. My preference is Chris Eccelstone, but I can see why Tennant worked so well with so many.
Although Matt Smith played the Doctor really well, and he didn't do anything wrong, I felt something was lacking with his Doctor and I think it was that I never got the sense that the darker depths of The Doctor were explored. Something which was done to a greater or lesser extent with the Ecclestone and Tennant Doctors. Can't blame Matt Smith for that, he played him well. I just think that the writing didn't cater for that.
>>81972778
Plebs is fucking GOAT.
>>81973382
Moffat's episodes are like a drunk throwing darts, sometimes he gets a bullseye, other times he's just like...swinging.

I'm all for David Bradely as one at Christmas but as long as Carole ann Ford gets atleast a scene after he and the younger susan depart.

I honestly don't know how they will fit two Doctors into 60 minutes. Unless they allow an hour and a half which Capaldi should get.
