For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

SD Group Build

Rules:
Pick up an SD anything, plane, Gundam/other MS, whatever, if it's generally an SD it counts (so I hope to see someone do a D-Style). Obviously, per all group builds, you'll want to paint it.

Submissions:
Email it to [email protected]
USE AN ACTIVE EMAIL ADDRESS

Due Date: November 1st

Good news! A kind anon has purchased some prizes for the group build. He has decided to do a random drawing rather than judge them like I did in the previous group build. Winners will be contacted via email.

For those curious, I intend to start the secret Santa signups on October 1st.

Secret Santa

It's that time of year again. Just look at the form and fill it out. Signups last until December 1st, pairs go out in the days after that.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdprprkU_4UBARdot0ASSmoUoxghk9bOPVuRrvZKfghAZQRbg/viewform?c=0&w=1

A few things:
-Use an active email, I don't want to be hounding you and then have to repair someone.
-Use your full address, I don't know every damn city and zip code in the US.

A new option, Cards Only. If you pick this you're assumed to be willing to ship international (it's a card after all). It doesn't have to be a handmade card, just something nice. Of course handmade is nicest, but not everyone has the skills for it.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdprprkU_4UBARdot0ASSmoUoxghk9bOPVuRrvZKfghAZQRbg/viewform?c=0&w=1

As always, I'm available here, on IRC, or at [email protected].

Reposting here because I have terrible timing
So I'm planning to buy the Barbatos in 1/144 scale, but have no idea which to get. It almost seems like the form six has the parts to make it's first release, but I dunno if that's the case.
>>
>>5956579

lupus
>>
>>5956579
Buy kimaris trooper instead

Check dalong for the list of spares, you'll be missing the mace/katana or whatever
>>
>>5956579
No original mace or katana. Only the Dino saw mace.

Other than that you can build a regular barbatos from it.
>>
>>5956579
>>5956593
I bought myself first form because I didn't like the high heels on 6th form, and I didn't know if you could strap the gun from additional parts on lupus
Besides the spear is the most iconic of the 3 weapons

>>
>>5958828
>clear Gundam
I've only ever understand clear for things that have internal mechanisms. It's kinda cool to watch the mechanisms operate, like when you pull the trigger on a gun and you notice how it disconnects, lets the bolt slide forward, how the casing is gripped by the extractor and ejected. I mean, it'd be cool to have a Gundam with clear armor that exposes an extremely detailed solid frame underneath. But the ENTIRE Gundam being clear? What's the point?

They are from the candy toy division.
They are small size kits that come in blind boxes. About 2 to 3 inches depending on that you got. Made in China and not MIJ like the plastic model division stuff.

Though, I really think the model division would pick up their asses to give us not the usually stuff.

Hi guys, need help from customs general here
>>5959025

Is Tamiyaâ„¢ brand masking tape more effective than your regular masking tape for this kind of purpose? Would it make a huge difference if I'm using regular paint brushes rather than airburhs? I figure you guys would be the expert on it
>>
>>5959379
Yeah, there's a reason every uses Tamiya masking tape, it's WAY better for that. Also, there's not really a lot to do other than practice or use two strips of tape.
>>
>>5959379

yes, proper model masking tape makes sharper lines than shit designed for your walls , and is also less likely to peel paint if you do it correctly.

your paints are way thick though what are you even using
>>
>>5959386
>yes, proper model masking tape makes sharper lines than shit designed for your walls , and is also less likely to peel paint if you do it correctly.
Do I also need the special Tamiya tape for curves?

>your paints are way thick though what are you even using
For the blue Testors Gloss Blue, unthinned. Yeah I know it's kind of gloppy. I did thin the flesh and black basecoat thoroughly and paint over in very thin layers, as you can see other than the fuzzy lines it's not that bad but I thought the purpose of dry brushing is not to have runny paint filling into the crevices. Seems like that's kind of the limit on regular paint brushes.

tamiya curve tape is good shit also but you don't NEED it if you are patient

>>
>>5959392
Skip the Testors and grab some Vallejo or Citadel if you're doing that. I know Citadel is a bit expensive but I've used it for that kind of thing in the past and only needed one coat.
>>
>>5959392
Seems like you don't understand what drybrushing is. You still need to thin the paint. What you do is wet the tip of your brush with paint and then rub like 99% of it off on a paper towel until just barely any is being left behind on your strokes. Then you lightly dust the raised areas on your model with it to highlight the edges. Its a very subtle and light effect.

Mark softer is not that expensive. You could always go for other alternatives if it's hard to find.

Also nigga just tape the damn piece to the table or wall
>>
>>5960078
But the best part about waterslides, aside from not looking like trash, is that you can maneuver them for as long as you want until they're in the position they're supposed to be in? you can hamhand them to buggery and still just coerce them back into place with a toothpick or something, it's well worth the extra effort, especially if the alternative is stickers.

No point. Get mark setter instead to actually get it to stick to the surface.
>>
>>5960122
there's definitely a point senpai, ideally you'd use both, but Softer makes the clear edges of the decal significantly less noticeable, and if it's being pasted over a recess or line, it'll make it conform to that contour so you're still able to fill it in with a wash once the decal is fully set

So the storm blew over quickly and I was able to bang out the Exia. I'm now working on the EZ-8 and GM (g) MG at the paint booth and my new homework is how to paint the GP-02 as the kit is ancient as hell and separation of peices is something they didn't quite think through in '98. The way I see it is:
I can paint out the thrusters, mask them off and then attach, glue the armor pieces, sand and then paint them, or glue them all up and become surgically good at masking. Either way its an annoyance.
>>
>>5960714
And here is the back. The nice part about the EZ and GM (g) is that I'm painting both at the same time. I'm painting out the cores together. For once I'm not wanting to use Alclad on the frame at all but dark grey Tamiya to better match what I vaguely remember from the show.

Apparently this is a really controversial opinion but the Tieren is so fucking cool and yet I hate 00 so much.
>>
Seems like a small nunber of runners for an RG.
>>
>>5960942
Never mind looks about right.

Also side note, I'm trying to be less of a shitter and am going to start resizing more of my pictures. What resolution is considered the best?
>>
>>5960752
At least they aren't posed having gay sex.
>>
>>5960951
1280x960 is okay I guess, I like to keep my pics under 1mb
>>
>>5960940
It looks like an over designed Zaku
>>
If there's a Barnes and Noble near you you might want to check it out. I just got a RG 00-RAISER for 75% off

>tfw the B & N near me doesn't sell gunpla

Real shitty. Nearest physical store for it is 30 minutes away.
>>
>>5961137
My B&N only has the [Q]ant and Nanju RGs
>>

Nvm, was hidden in the back stockroom. Had to go online to see availability. Picking up tomorrow
>>
Oh god, I literally can't stop buying new kits.
>>
>>5961452

buy supplies and tools instead
>>
can vallejo fags tell me the best way to get chars red?
>>
>>5961137

how did you know it was on sale?
>>
>>5961454
What tools do you think I'm missing. Only things I can think of are painting supplies and maybe a dremel.
>>
>>5961495

jesus what is with all the dremel talk lately

almost no one "needs" a dremel and certainly not if those are all of your tools
>>
>>5961497
Drill talk aside, please expand on what tools I'm missing. I'm curious to see what I've been missing out on.
>>
>>5961504
Not him but how do you manage to get any sanding done? I tried those sanding sticks and for the life of me they would not do dick.
>>
>>5961137
Funny thing i got 3 Mgs for 50% off.
>>
>>5961507

not him, but squadron sticks are like hit and miss for me

the ones that have like real sand work fine but wear out eventually

the newer ones that are like some sort of synthetic shit are terrible and don't do dick
>>
>>5961504
tamiya cement. softer and setter for water slides
>>
>>5961495
Sand paper, sanding sponge, tamiya design knife.
>>
>>5961520
he doesnt reall need a sponge if he gets different grits of sandpaper
>>
>>5961520

>sanding sponge aka detail destroyer aka the corner rounder
>nip knifu wow folded 10000 times

m8 stop
>>
>>5961517
>>5961520
I find that testors cement works the same as Tamiya. I also have mark setter and havent had any issue where I would have needed mark softer.

Besides the sanding sticks I have sandpaper ranging from 400 to 2000 grit.
>>
>>5961507
Also what the other anon said, the sticks really are hit or miss. As i just said above, I have normal sandpaper as well in various grits from 400 up 2000.
>>
>>5960692
Just a heads up, if you want this too. It's mandatory to have a stand for it. That backpack weighs as much as the suit itself.

Hey guys, I'm looking into upgrading my photography setup and was wondering what this person uses for the surface.

It's black and highly reflective.
>>
>>5961472
It was in the big CLEARANCE bin
>>
>>5961626
I went to a store yesterday and it wasn't in there even though it said it was in stock online. There were a lot of IBO Chara stands though

Have you any more pics of this build at all? I'm planning on doing up some of the 80s MSV kits sometime and I'd like more pics of this guys step by step work.
