For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

SD Group Build

Rules:
Pick up an SD anything, plane, Gundam/other MS, whatever, if it's generally an SD it counts (so I hope to see someone do a D-Style). Obviously, per all group builds, you'll want to paint it.

Submissions:
Email it to [email protected]
USE AN ACTIVE EMAIL ADDRESS

Due Date: November 1st

Good news! A kind anon has purchased some prizes for the group build. He has decided to do a random drawing rather than judge them like I did in the previous group build. Winners will be contacted via email.

For those curious, I intend to start the secret Santa signups on October 1st.

Secret Santa

It's that time of year again. Just look at the form and fill it out. Signups last until December 1st, pairs go out in the days after that.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdprprkU_4UBARdot0ASSmoUoxghk9bOPVuRrvZKfghAZQRbg/viewform?c=0&w=1

A few things:
-Use an active email, I don't want to be hounding you and then have to repair someone.
-Use your full address, I don't know every damn city and zip code in the US.

A new option, Cards Only. If you pick this you're assumed to be willing to ship international (it's a card after all). It doesn't have to be a handmade card, just something nice. Of course handmade is nicest, but not everyone has the skills for it.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdprprkU_4UBARdot0ASSmoUoxghk9bOPVuRrvZKfghAZQRbg/viewform?c=0&w=1

As always, I'm available here, on IRC, or at [email protected].

I just realized this makes more sense if you think of it as a holographic weapon, kind of like jehuty's vector cannon, or altair's holonic blade

Hooooooly shit.

God, seeing this makes me want to make a Zeta-Plus Einhander custom. Wonder if the Delta would work better, either unit's legs would have to practically fold unto themselves ridiculously far.

>>5947676
Gonna have to fill that out ASAP.

FUCK, I forgot to add in the what would you like section.

Is everyone okay with just kind of getting anything or would you guys like me to redo it with the list five option like last year?
>>
>>5947753
I think it might not even be their fault. The other stuff looks kinda crumpled but not terrible. I got a DM Tallgeese 3 and Akatsuki, which don't look bad. But they also have really thick cardboard boxes.
>>
>>5947765

>>5947786
He meant he wants to GIVE MG Nus, but if most people already have one he'll look for something else. That wasn't a wishlist for an MG Nu himself.
>>
Alright everyone the SS form has been updated.

PLEASE RESUBMIT IF YOU ALREADY SUBMITTED.

I've cleared the spreadsheet so I need those entries redone.

Sorry guys.
>>
>>5947794

well, ok but it really does read like the exact opposite from my end

I see whats happening, he says get instead of give. Yes you have to get to give but getting is the opposite of giving. People might easily misunderstand you if you use the words interchangably like that
>>
>>5947802

well, you can still say something like, 'I'll get you that' and it would still be correct.
>>
>>5947802
>i wanna get a nu gundam
>for my match
No, there's nothing confusing about that unless maybe you're ESL, ADD or FR. Phrasing like that is bog standard, man.

No, there would also be something confusing about that if you were an english professor.

RG Aile Strike / Skygrasper guy here. It really is great and imo worth the price. The Skygrasper itself has so much detail, the decal density is crazy. So much so that I had to leave some off because I didn't like the way it was going to look.

The Sword Striker is possibly my favorite sword now, tied with the giant one from the 00 Raiser.

Have a similar picture to the one I posted last thread, unfortunately it's been raining here so I still haven't been able to topcoat the Striker sets.

I can post more pictures tomorrow morning and comment more on the RG Aile and Skygrasper if you have questions.
>>

>additional long neck/weird feet here >>5948567 for compatibility with doll clothes
>neck scrunchie comes in armored and unarmored variants
>comes with original materia-styled hardpoints
>maybe a new hip joint?
>10 sets of hands(skin and gloved colors)

Koto I fucking love you, so much rapid development instead of reusing molds over and over, and most of all, the inclusion of all these option parts without releasing them separately

>>
>>5949454
>do the other have better shipping?
Yes. Amiami tends to include an excessive amount of packaging driving the shipping rates up. What's the price difference between Amiami and the closest competitor? If it's less than 700 yen or so you should probably go with the other guy.

In the future, Amiami isn't usually THAT terrible for figure prices aside from possible shipping fees, but you should definitely be checking HLJ and HS for models as those two tend to beat Ami in both price and shipping while still having solid service and allowing some cancellations where applicable.
>>
>>5949472
I'm looking at HG models and the difference is about 50-200 yen per model, I'll probably use HLJ then since their thunderbolt zaku isn't on backorder

unrelated question, why are the HG thunderbolt models in the 1500 yen range when others are 800-1000

Filter is important because it stops a lot of dust from going into your fans and your ductwork.

You mean the pipette?

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Brand-New-Single-Channel-Manual-Adjustable-TopPette-Pipette-Pipettor-Pipet-Free-Shipping/2003000655.html

The 100-1000ul range is the most useful imo, but they all cost the same.

meanwhile i use a simple plastic straw for picking up thinner liquid with my fingers to tap the pressure.

>>
>>5950184
Literally any other primer, basically. A primer does not need to "play nice" with the paint above it, since it is already dry by the time you apply paint. Paint, any paint, needs to play nice with what's below it, never the other way around. And since Vallejos are water based acrylics they will never react with anything under them.

Acrylic "primers" are a joke since acrylic simply doesn't have the biting power to properly adhere to the surface like a primer is meant to do.
>>
>>5950172

I'm looking to be able to hand brush on topcoats with a matte finish. My reasearch so far has pointed me towards using tamiya x-21 flat base mixed with future. Not only should it be fairly cheap but the future could serve as either a gloss or matte depending on the ratio of flat base in it which makes it seem like a fairly attractive option.

>>
>>5950428

RG Strike/Skygrasper guy here.

What i find really helps with lining on rgs is to panel line before assembly. It really flushes out the detail on every part and makes it so you can get much tighter lines which increases the realism. That way you don't just have big thick lines.

Just something to think about or maybe try on your next rg.
>>
>>5950237
>How do you folks manage to cleanly remove nubbage without cutting gouges of plastic out with a hobby knife or file?
Progressive sanding. Don't cut all the way through the piece and leave a small nub. Sand it off using a 600 grit sand paper, and work up to 2000 grit. Also, wet sanding greatly reduces the plastic dust created when sanding that gets in the air and may fuck up your health.
>>
>>5950539
That sounds like a great deal of work. Shame my only kit left is already half done and most likely nubby on that end. Any suggestions on how to hide nubs or the discolored area of removed nubs?
>>
>>5950548
From what I've learned in this hobby, there can be a lot of different ways to achieve the same thing. That guy might like sanding from 600-2000 grit. I find that just using a metal file and lightly sanding away does the exact same thing. You can get it perfectly smooth if you're careful, but if there's tiny scratches left, a matte topcoat can hide that. For discolored nubs, like white stress or darker shades, there's no perfect way if you're just straight building it, but you can go over it with a close enough Gundam marker. Before I painted, I liked the Real Touch Markers as they blend the nub more naturally than the regular paint ones and panel lining with them has a nice effect.

There are drawbacks to pipettes however, the main one being if you forget about the tip/paint and put it down, drop it, or tilt it too far sideways, the paint can flow inside and trust me as someone who uses them extensively at university. Cleaning them out under normal circumstances is an absolute pain in the ass, cleaning out dry paint is going to be neigh on impossible. The tips may be resistant to almost everything you throw at them, but the actual bodies are susceptible to thinners just like any other plastic.

How'zit GunpaG, thinking about picking up pic related.
Anybody have experience with it? I've built my share of HGs but only about 3 MGs, will i have a bit of trouble with this kit?
As for the kit itself are there any significant black mark about it?
I've checked dalong and typeV3's review and just looking for some extra input.
>>
How do you guys usually get paint off your kits? I just got a HGBF Zaku Amazing for super cheap locally because it had already been painted, it's completely unassembled too.
Problem is, as far as I can tell she used nothing but two colors of Tamiya spray lacquer, and nothing I throw at it seems to be doing much. Worst part is, she painted everything ON THE FUCKING RUNNERS, so even if I just said fuck it and decided to assemble it with her paint job, I'd have hideous holes where all the nubs were.

Anybody have suggestions to strip the paint? It doesn't have to be quick, it just has to work without me taking a toothpick to every square millimeter afterwards.
So far I've tried 95% isopropyl alchohol, windex, and paint thinner, which have all had parts left in them for 48 hours+. The alchohol sort of softens the paint, and I can scrape it off with a toothpick with enough force. The other two did jack shit. I think the paint thinner I used was for oil paints but I am unsure.
>>

Simple green soak should work.

>>5951943
>and paint thinner, which have all had parts left in them for 48 hours+
>I think the paint thinner I used was for oil paints but I am unsure.

If you soaked parts in mineral spirits for 48 hours, you're gonna have a bad time. Mineral spirits will make the plastic brittle. Be hopeful that the lacquer protected the plastic.

Also break fluid is supposed to work very well for stripping lacquer.
>>
>>5951906
It looks great from what I've seen of other anons building it. As far as I can tell, it has similar issues as other RGs, which is just parts fall off if you handle them too much.

I like the trash bag detail actually but Oh shit... Water decals.... I think they look better, but they take so fucking long to apply... Not missing those from my Warhammer 40k days... I'd like to freehand back then too instead of using decals...

I'm pretty new to the whole Gunpla thing, so I have a question.
I was looking at the Gundam Guy website and saw a pretty cool gundam in the main photo

Is it a Banshe painted white? or a Phenex in white?
Does anybody know which Gundam pic related is?

Did my first ever bit of scratchbuilding last night.

Yes, this was some stock styrene tube, with some kotobukiya detail parts inside, the core slides out when unpegged for easy painting too.

At what point does inspired by becomes copying?
Because Syd's Unicorn Custom with the blue psycho-frame and silver v-fin looks really sleek and I want to do it, but at the same time I don't want to copy someone, let alone someone who names his website gaijin gunpla.

Big question: Does 99% IPA make polycaps brittle/make them crack/etc?

I just found out the hard way that non-UV Krylon clear coats will yellow out on you. Seems that it kicks in within 3 months.

Sprayed that gloss coat on a bunch of white painted parts and kept them in darkened storage. Basically near where I build the kits.

If I can salvage the parts, it means dunking them in IPA to strip the clear coat and then use UV-proof clear coat instead.
>>
>>5953615
I don't see the problem as long as you're transparent with your inspiration.
>>
>>5953873
When I first started, I left some pieces I screwed up painting in something like 70% or 90% IPA to soak and they were fine.

If you're going to gloss coat, you could also just use future.
>>
>>5953898
The polycaps were fine for posing afterwards? It seems that I will have to go in for a overnight soak here.

Shitposting.

Every time I wander into this thread I wonder why people upload their 4000x3000 images that are focused onto the background and not the thing they're trying to take a picture of. Resize that shit. If you have a device that's only capable of auto-focusing and it's not wanting to focus onto your pieces, shove your hand next to it so it focuses onto your hand and remove it before you take the picture.

>people actually being butthurt at unresized images

Ok, it's one thing if you're on a 56kbps dial up connection or have data limits. But honestly the elitism of not having perfectly resized or focused images and just the general shitposting about phone posters is a real downer.

I imagine a lot of lurkers don't contribute because they don't want to get shat on. Ya'll need to relax and be helpful instead of just shitposting >muh standard sizes >muh perfect lighting >muh whatever the fuck.

That's how threads/generals fade away.
>>
>>5954641
Good. If someone can't even put in 3 seconds of effort then their "contribution" is something we don't need.
>>
Barnes & Noble just got in RX-78 Origin edition. Anyone able to speak to its quality?
>>
>>5954641
Don't be a whiteknight without knowing the facts, dickteeth.
Resizing isn't just "muh muh muh". When you open an image up that hasn't been resized, it often takes up an area larger than your screen. If someone asks for advice or criticism, and mind you this is detail oriented stuff, and then posts a huge ass photo you can't even look at without opening in a different program and editing first, you are damn straight they will catch hell for it, fucking retarded cuntflaps.
Honestly if they, and you, can't understand this, and are afraid of posting you work as a result, GOOD. Fucking this thread is better off without it.

Nobody wants lurkers to contribute 15 megapixel blurry phone camera images of their snapbuilds anyway. Quit wasting precious internet bandwidths on your crap images.

Also resizing always makes your pictures look better, anyway. It takes like 10 seconds to open it in paint and cut it by 50-75% and save it.

Would it be considered Mary Sue, or going against Gundam to create a Double V-Project of sorts? Had the idea as I worked on my custom GM that the Feddies seem to be putting forth everything they have by 079 and 080, that someone in a backwater part of Earth would be trying to replicate the success of the original V-Project using GMs as the base. I suppose it is stupid to ask, since headcanon and all, but I felt I should.

And a Xabungle reissue. And they're both sold out everywhere. Ami put them back up once but they also sold out within the hour. Do we know why the preorders aren't just staying open for these? I don't feel like there's a reason why they're closing at all this early. But then again I guess that goes for all Bandai products that sell out early. I also hesitated in Ideon, so hoping I get a second chance with him once he releases.

Roughly the size of a 1/100 kit. I've had to strip the paint off the pre-painted parts with IPA because it's nigh impossible for me to do a color match, and trying to do so would aggravate any latent autism.

I'm not too sure if the scimtars of the 1/144 Hugo would go with it, because I want to make an ad-hoc Zweihand Quarterer, and stuff. Otherwise I'll have to settle for the upcoming Koto Scimtars.
