Monthly Building Challenge:
Your challenge this month is to design a Microfighter for a vehicle that doesn't have one yet. It can be of any property, as long as it has 100 or less pieces, seats 1 minifig, and is cute and chibi. Get swooshing!

It was a quaint joke some anon made in one of these threads where he made a dimensions set that featured an Emmet with a cup as a head and a mud guard/ wheel well/whatever you want to call it as the "vehicle". Now its just been beaten into the ground as usual.

Once again, explaining the joke, fucking hell, etc etc etc.
>>
>>5830332
To explain further, the DIYmensions set is a reference to how the City theme tends to include those one-piece fenders on every single vehicle, as well as at least one coffee cup of some sort, usually on the dashboard of the vehicle.
>>
>>5830337
Much better explained than I could do. Thank you anon.

That guy missed one key thing though in his original joke.

No fire extinguisher.

Almost EVERY super hero set and several star wars ones feature the red 1x1 round and red tap to make a fire extinguisher. Its become an inside joke between me and my GF, whenever we build new sets we both call out when we find that inevitable extinguisher.

Cherish that self-restraint, anon. Be thankful that you have the power to do what countless others cannot.
>>
>>5830843
You remind me of a friend of mine who has Benny's SSS, TIE Advanced vs. A-Wing, Kanan's Speeder bike and Ultra Agents Hurricane Heist still in their boxes in his room.

Granted, he doesn't have room to build any of those, I'm fairly sure Kanan's box is practically lost somewhere and Benny is acting as a roadblock for his cats.
>>
>>5830847
Oh, no, don't get me wrong. If it were ANY other set, it'd already be done and on display.
But there is something, some aura, about the Palace Cinema that has caused me to procrastinate on it ever since I got it. Of course, since I'm procrastinating, I can't get new sets because I'd just feel dirty opening and finishing a large set before finishing the large set I already opened. (Before you ask, yes, I have been diagnosed with autism.)
>>5830845
Thank you.

I already had to use the same hair mold for CIA, I didn't want to use similar hair colors to add onto that. (CIA would be black haired, Dr. Pavel would be brown-haired) Gray hair's also more distinct amongst the others and, when contrasted against the dark-shaded buzzcuts of the military men, immediately distinguishes a character as important - and Dr. Pavel, in this case, being CIA's prize, is very important. Visual storytelling at its finest.

If you want a cheaper alternative, theres SEVERAL "different companies" in china who make knockoffs that are 1:1 with the original. Only thing you might have to replace is the light saber blade, thats what I had to do because it was a pinkish color instead of red.

Get a Revan for under a dollar.
>>
>>5831035
>>5831249
You MIGHT get non-Lego from a seller that doesn't know any better, but that's extremely, extremely unlikely.

Some sellers sell bootlegs, but they're usually custom items and they clearly say "Hey, this isn't official by the way"

Reminds me of one seller that has like 4000 of one Bionicle-mask in stock.

>>

Sheng Yuan and Enlighten are generally considered the best. Everything else varies from acceptable to flat out terrible.
>>
>>5831266
Youll only feel dirty if you let yourself, anon. As far as brand goes, good luck. My theory still stands that the different "companies" making these knockoffs are all the same Triad gang and they just change names every so often and split their business into several "companies" so f anyone DID decide to try and go after them (HA!), it would be impossible.

SY and POGO are pretty good places to start though.

10243 Parisian Restaurant.
It's modular, so not only can you take off each of the three levels and marvel at the detailed interiors in each one, you can also connect it with other modular buildings like 10232 Palace Cinema or 10246 Detective's Office.

Older.

If you're concerned about expiration dates, then go for Pet Shop, that is very close to retirement. Then Palace Cinema, then Parisian Restaurant, then Detective's Office.

This is probably the order I'd recommend, since DO is essentially agreed upon to be the best modular, and you want to save the best for last.

Pick up literally any standard brick- 1x2, 2x4, 1x2 with hole, fucking ANYTHING- now and you'll see fucking seams across the sides, the top, everywhere, and they're identical on every brick.

Not to mention all the cost-cutting to save plastic, like how minifig radios are HOLLOW now.

Went to my local LEGO store and they had no new CMF series, no Doctor Strange sets, and no Tanker Truck Showdown. The employees seemed to have no idea why they didn't have these sets. This store is usually great. Totally bummed out.
>>
>>5832894
Official release day of new CMF in some parts of the world is September, and at least one of the two sets is online exclusive somewhere
>>
>>5832683
The front side is exactly the same, though.

Actual walkie talkies aren't fucking open on the back unless you're changing the batteries!

>>

Damn. Looking at the Lego website, it looks like Lego has a ton of new sets listed as online only. Doctor Strange, Tanker Truck Showdown, Rescue from Ra's al Ghul, Samurai X Cave Chaos, and Airjitzu Battle Grounds, Rebel Combat Frigate, and the Black Knight Mech are all listed as online only. I found the Black Knight at Toys R Us, so I'm guessing these are mostly shared exclusives.

Sears have a mold mark right in the middle now for some reason even though it was hidden underneath for 40 years.
>>
>>5832875
>>5832924
Is it a reduction of quality across the entire catalog?
There is a wider selection of peices, in more colors, with new peices being released faster and faster.
my clip peices from 20 years ago are starting to crack, but the new ones feel stronger and lego has even made sets with what used to be illegal connections. The hud on blue power jet comes to mind.
>>
>>5832952
It's 50/50. For smaller things like clips, they're redesigned them so they're stronger and less prone to cracking (usually in the shape of the clip itself), but for bricks in general, they're thinner (so thin you can often see the imprint of the hole on the bottom of a plate- from the top, smooth side!), flimsier, and you can reliably pick out the seams and lines from the mold, even on parts that never used to have them (i.e. 1x2 tiles now have a seam going straight through the middle underside of them, which is noticeable on the transparent parts and never used to be there).

There's also the color quality control (read: nonexistent) and STICKERS EVERYWHERE.

I just can't get behind the torso design of the Black Knight. The legs are neat, the arms are fine I guess, but the torso is too oddly-shaped for my tastes.

I would love to get that printed HF visor though.
>>
>>5833041
My biggest issue with Black Knight is the fact that it's not, well, black.
>>
>>5832952
The clip you talk of on the BPJ isn't illegal, it would be with the old clip but the newer ones are thicker designed with a notch for that type of connection in mind.
>>
>>5833047
>>5832952
Pic of connection in question?
>>
>>5833060
This is the old clip that easily snaps and would be used illegally which you refer to.
>>
>>5832436
I hope Lego knows that if their quality drops to that of other companies then they're going to have to compete more on a creativity level. Right now Lego is THE BEST when it comes to quality of bricks and consistency of clutch. If they let the go...
>>
>>5833060
And this is the new glorious reinforced clip they rolled out in the BPJ, quite hard to see the nano millimeter notch but it is there. Hope that helps.
>>
>>5833072
I'm pretty sure that's the new clip, the older ones were more of a U, not a C (less of an angle where it meets the base) and were also grey, not bley.

>>5833074
Their quality is dropping. Their parts honestly look like Megabloks now, and the ancient switch to blue grey didn't help at all.
>>

They are available from LEGO's online store, but for some reason they aren't available in actual LEGO retail locations. I feel like this is a first time for this.

According to a LEGO employee I talked to, it might be because other retailers (Wal-Mart, Target, Toys R Us) were getting angry because their "exclusives" were being sold at LEGO retail stores and were often cheaper.

and not the clip part, but the tile base part itself cracking in half. No stress on the pieces either, it's just sitting there displayed. They're not being exposed to extreme temperatures or anything. It makes no sense. 3 of the 4 clips from this set and both fins on the back have been broken, and all but three of the brown angled clips that hold Gorzan's Gorilla Striker's fingers have split as well. I don't know if Lego will send replacement parts for a set that old, but this is pretty ridiculous. I'm guessing you send them a photo and the proof of purchase number from the instructions with a request for the parts? I dunno, I never had to do this before.

The 4502 Dagobah version is identical to the 6212 2006 version, except that some pieces are a different color and it still used old gray/dark gray shades (came out in late 2003). So you're not missing much.

You didn't grope your bags?
>>
>>5835097
I did but I guess I'm not very good at it

somehow I mistook Captain Hook's hair/hat for Buzz Lightyear's armor? Plus in retrospect, the others I felt weren't even ones I wanted either, it seemed that people already went through the rack and picked the good ones. I hate it when target sets them at the end of the aisle on pegs, then I have no idea how many of what figures I can expect to see.

I'm with you there, anon. Never before have I felt such disappointment with a CMF.
>>
>>5835139
How is this even possible? Buzz's armor is one of the easiest things to feel, and you can always check with the wings. Hook's hat is very different.
>>
>>5835161
It was probably the first big piece he felt that day, and jumped to conclusions.

I know I did.
>>
>>5835167
>>5835139
>>5835155
I made the same mistake with hook/buzz. I didn't realize how much curve the gad had, I thought buzz's armor was the only big piece with a slot you could fit your finger in. I realized my mistake fondling the packs again before opening them.
>>
>>5835167
yeah, this. Judging by the others I felt, I wasn't going to have any luck anyway. Shit was all aladdins, aliens, mermaids, and hooks. At least I can try to make a cardinal Richelou now?

also what's with the tail being longer than the short legs?

Ausini train.

Engine is a bit small, but there are actually a lot of printed parts. Minifigs are pretty lame and the printing ink is pretty cheap.

The engine, despite its size, does have a huge chunk that is obviously meant to be analogous to the train motor, so it probably could take one.

Designs are a little flimsy and have a lot of straight-up vertical parts with little support. Not the best, but still only $35.

It came with nine pieces of track, seven straights and two curves.

Mad much? That's from an idea book anyways. If they still made high quality cloth or clear stickers like that, I wouldn't half mind, but modern stickers are poor quality and often superfluous.
