Hopefully other stores have them shortly, I don't mind the increased price as I understand it's the diznee tax. But I want to think they do this to avoid kids opening the bags and stealing the content and not because of people getting eactly what they want. Moreso because the figs are apparently distributed equally in each box..

I haven't used Lego in roughly 20 years. I don't have any but I want to have a long term-project to distract me from the monotony of work and the pain of divorce. I want to build a (custom) Lego ship. An 18th century dual gun deck Royal Navy ship of the line. I approximate that it would be 20cm wide and 80cm long. How much money is this going to cost me to order the pieces from Brick-link? (In multiple orders over a couple of years). I know that it's all based on how I build it, but some approximations would be greatly appreciated.

>>5675237
Europe isn't Japan, idiot.
>>
>>5675478
The best way to go about this is to download Lego Digital Designer (it's free) and plan out your build in that. Once you get it how you want it, you can export a parts list and then make orders on Bricklink.
>>
>>5675625
>DC
>get all three heroes, the main villain and the love interest of the main character in one set
or
>Marvel
>eventually cave in to the desire to complete the line up of characters, buying the Black Panther set, the Crossbones set and the Spider-Man set for a combined total of more than the airport battle
If you can only afford one big set, go for Batman vs Superman.
>>
>>5675478
Ten cents a piece for the simpler pieces, more for complicated or rarer bits. I hope you're talking about a steel ship, as grey is cheaper than brown. You want closer numbers for bricklink, subtract a bit from whatever Lego pick-a-brick online charges for the same parts. You want to know how many parts, best of luck on that, use youtube vids of similarly-sized MOCs people make for shows as those will usually state piece count pretty closely - at 20x80cm I'd say that's at least 7k pieces (and therefore near $1k once you're done) but that's a guess pulled out of my ass.

Godspeed.

Organise your collection
>>
>>5675983
Some people will tell you to sort by color. These people are well-meaning fools. If anything, sort by color first, then re-sort by type.

But it's best to have your pieces sorted by type. It's easier to find a specific red piece in the bin/bag/pile of multicolored specific pieces than it is to find a specific piece in the unsorted pile of random red pieces.

i use these suitcase like containers with movable partitions to sort by type, a bucket for finished minifigs and a box for just classic >2 by x bricks sorted by colour.

Make sure to look for the most effective way of sorting that fits your collection. i.e. if you have just a hand full of wheels don't waste 10 different categories to them.

I also use plastic bags (but in large paper bags kek). I try to have each plastic bag about two thirds full so I cans still see everything inside the bag. It's good while you're still sorting. Just pick the colors/ parts that you use most and sort those out gradually. Don't worry if you're left with a pile of unsorted pieces, since those are the pieces you use least.

They remain on that axis while in formation. It's more of a "keep the flight together when travelling at high speed" thing.

To be honest I didn't think of having them do that when designing the thing.

Apparently there's not enough demand for that, according to an interview I read in RailBricks with two Trains designers. They say the same is true with the Crossover track piece (BULL FUCKING SHIT) and X-crossing tracks.
>>
>>5676466
I find that hard to believe, but true at the same time. Lego trains kind of keep getting changed. , but they never release anything that's a medium or small scale set, everything is always $100 or more.

If they treat it more like actual hobby trains where you can get an engine, cars, and track separately, it would sell a bit better. It would make the set more worth it for kids and adults.

We get, what, one or two train themed sets a year? break up those big sets into individual sets like what they used to do. At the same time, keeping certain things together in one package as a set.
>>
>>5676486
>If they treat it more like actual hobby trains where you can get an engine, cars, and track separately, it would sell a bit better. It would make the set more worth it for kids and adults.

Supposedly kids don't want shit like that. Which doesn't make any fucking sense when there are dedicated toy trains that maintain themselves like this (Wooden Thomas comes to mind)

Uhhh

OK, fuck it.

IMO, strictly IMO, I would say 60052 is the ideal starter train. It may be more expensive, but it offers shitloads more stuff to do with one set.

But if you want a passenger train, then by all means get that one. I don't have it myself but I like the style the gave it.

There are three trains out currently, and any of the three comes with the full load of Power Functions tech. The two more expensive trains both come with more impressive additional bits and more diverse cars, while the passenger train looks sleek and modern and pairs really well with the train station that is currently available, too.

No matter which train you get, don't forget to get extra tracks, because you're going to want more than a simple loop very soon.
>>

I was really hoping for something a little more interesting for the Civil War set they kept secret.
>>
>>5677354
Yeah kind of a let down, especially since they spoiled the Giant Man scene in a set released months before the movie. This level of secrecy to protect the Spider-man costume was a bit much.

Black Knight mech looks like it might be good. Cockpit looks more enclosed than the King's Mech. Hopefully, it has two hands since the King's shield stump looked kind of lame.
>>
>>5677354
I think it looks pretty nice. The only thing that disappointed me is that they included another Steve Rogers instead of a regular-sized Scott Lang.
>>
>>5677360
Or another Black Panther.
>>
>>5677363
We don't need another Black Panther, and even if we did, he's on the same side as Vision and Spider-Man.
Minifig-size Ant-Man is not only the only one missing as of now, but he's also connected to the exploding fuel truck in the movie.

I'm interested to see what the inside looks like, but this is not too interesting to me. Commander Sato looks good. Ahsoka looks good other than having blue lightsabers instead of white, but hopefully that is just for the promo shot since it is on a white background. I would have liked to see the Seventh Sister included here since we're getting Fifth Brother in Rex's AT-TE.

Target near me had a bag of like 60 blocks for $1. I guess you could get those. If you're into such vulgar things I mean.
Of course, you can always just buy some name brand Lego bricks in one of those mixed boxes. That way you will have a nice set of bricks and a clean conscience.

Anyone have an idea of worth for this? Friend had em sitting around in his house.
>>
>>5677357
Considering they showed the Spider-man thing in teasers before we even saw the new Civil War sets I hope they weren't trying to keep Spider-man a secret by doing this. If they were sane and trying to keep anything a secret I think them hiding this set away was more to avoid outright giving away potential final battle details seeing as the Airport is fairly nondescript in how it might fully play out. Exploding trucks gives away some flash.

>>5677443
This set seems about on par to the other sets outside the airport one. Crossbones jeep is lacking much outside minifigs as well, and the jet is another Cap/Bucky tossed in putting focus all on BP. It's just not so much better than the rest as some expected to merit the delay, thus the perceived lower quality now.

In my experience, directly ordering replacement parts through the website gives you more fine control over what pieces you want than actually talking to a rep. The rep could only send me a random replacement blindbag, but the site could specify the exact piece that had the problem.

I actually found the knights stick inside of his baseplate right after posting that, which is odd as I checked it twice beforehand specifically thinking it could be stuck in there. Lego confirmed for using paranormal plastic pieces. As for the missing visor, I just assume that it can't be replaced for some reason.
>>5678411
I actually made the request online cause screw calling support lines. The list of parts I was to receive shows all three as it should, but again I assume they just couldn't send the visor and hoped the free fig would satisfy me, which it did as the knight was one of the few I wanted from this series.
>>
>>5678434
Thanks!

Do you know if there's any limit to making requests? Mostly a time-frame kind of thing. Never had any issues until I picked up that ant-man set last year and one of the stud shooters (horrible things) has a handle that's somehow just thin enough the technic holders for the one minifig's pack won't grip it, but works fine in hands. Downside is the set seems to be retired, so not sure if it's worth the hassle now.

They can only replace parts that are currently in production. In my case, I called last fall to complain that my Zombie Businessman CMF's briefcase broke as soon as I closed it the first time. At first the rep was only able to send me a random blindbag replacement, but then I realized that the black briefcase was also currently in a City set, so I had her file a replacement claim as if I had bought that set instead.

tl;dr if the set is out of production you might be SOL.

All this spaceship with effects is making me wanna build something like this. Nice attention to detail on the weapons there.

That cylinder part for the multi-launcher though, what is that? Looks like a neat printed part.

>>5678474
Well I decided to poke around and it looks like it worked out. Stud shooters are becoming ubiquitous in licensed sets so it should be easy to fix. Hopefully it fits snugly if they do process it, because that's a lot of effort for such a small thing to end up not fixing the problem.

It was interesting seeing all the parts you had to prove you bought the set to request replacements for though. Some seemed pretty basic too.

The last time I sent a complaint was way back (Series 10? With Goldman), I said X-figure had the same problem I mentioned, and they sent a random blindbag - a skydiver. So being greedy/frugal I sent complaints for all the CMF line figures I had that had the same problem, but they responded saying that they're made separately in some other factory and they can't access the individual parts. Which ties into what people have been saying about discontinued parts I guess.

>>5678734
I got them from Toronto - some at Indigo bookstores, some at the Lego Store. I literally put them together, never detached/reattached the arms, and mostly had them on display in a standard standing pose on their stands.

I'll definitely send an e-mail or other with the photos, although I forgot how the process went about.

Apparently they make the CMF line from China? That was one rumour.. I know that the more recent - aka yellow->flesh - Star Wars sets seemed to be lower in quality, since the decals on the minifigs seemed more obvious as painted and could be easily scratched off. So maybe they're cutting costs with all the licenses they're buying.

Huh
Some of my older figures still don't have cracks like that, whereas some of the newly released figures have them out of the package.

Checking your link, I've had my 1x1 cheese slopes experience cracks as well.. But I generally keep my hands clean before handling what little joy remains in my life, so I'd have to rule out butter for this one.

I've noticed licensed sets cost more lately, so I doubt they're cutting costs too much on the materials there, unless Disney jacked their fees after the merger and they hid half the price hike in quality, while the rest was noticeable to the consumer.

That said, with the new Chinese factory and change in materials it could just be an issue with quality control. I may be a little over cynical, but I don't expect the same attention to detail from a Chinese factory than the European/American ones. That and the potential inherent inferiority of the new production methods. I don't buy enough sets, and only just got into the CMFs, so I haven't had much experience with the printing to comment there.

It's like $2 in total, and I got the important part of the order, can't decide - do I even bother complaining?

$2? Sounds like a lot of parts, or very interesting ones. I'd complain. It helps keep their stock up to date as well, so you'd be doing them a favour too!

lego? meh, i dont always. its usually just annoying, but unless its something i was hype for, i do. cmf's, important parts, that shit. i wouldn't complain for a missing cheese slope or somethin

but bricklink i would instantly. think of it this way, he ordered 250 pieces, and a person picked them up by hand and put them in bags then shipped them
there was no robot, no part left off the order form, just a mistake. the guy who got your money messed up after getting payed on a site where bad reviews can kill your store
>>
>>5678881
Exactly what I'm saying. He shouldn't leave a bad review for a tiny mistake, but he can still contact the guy and let him know. If he isn't willing to work with the buyer then the buyer might consider leaving a bad review.

I just don't really care. After checking, it's more like 25c of parts that're not exactly essential. My previous order was missing a CMF, that one I did get corrected.

Guess you guys are right though, I'll let the guy know at least.

Don't listen to this fuckboi >>5679045 he has no idea. Doing it that way will take you for fucking ever, and what you'll end up with is 1 fuckhuge lot of unsorted shit and and lots of tiny piles of sorted shit. Meaning you're gonna have to look in two different places when you're trying to find parts to build mocs, and I am telling you now that's not what you want.

Get yourself a wall's worth of draw compartments from your local hardware store(or online), put aside a whole day, find a long ass playlist of a podcasts or music to listen to while you work, dump those two tubs out onto a sheet on the ground (makes picking up and moving the pile easy if it's necessary) and bite that curb and start sorting then don't stop until you're starving or done.

Yes it's gonna be hard and tedious, but you will thank yourself when you're done. And I can say from experience it's immensely satisfying to finally finish sorting out your shit.
>>
>>5679069
i also have tubs and tubs full of unsorted parts, but its almost all pieces i never want to touch again. you have to recognize that not all parts are equally useful and that youre already selecting for your favorite/most useful parts when you search for parts to build with. so when you look for a part to build with, take more than you need of that part and sort them when youre done
>>
>>5679069
this anon is correct and very wise

Even more satisfying though? Building something when you can find every single piece in a couple seconds.

>Is P36, 4-8-4 steam locomotive.
I just got into trains - What does the 4-8-4 part mean?
>>
>>5679069

See this is where I'm glad to be doing it the way I have been. I don't have a fuckhuge collection to work with, but since my turning to Lego for my model fix and acquiring new sets, I pack parts into small bags when I am done. I currently have two tubs, large and small, full of random "raw brick". One tub has my post-building, post-bricklink sorted baggies, and I have a box of nothing but city-based minifigs and some train stuff. My trains all have their own tub, plus another for just track and 9v controllers. I currently stuff all my built models into a linen closet outside my bedroom. When I have space, that stuff will go into ziploc bags labeled by set.

>>5679106
4-8-4 refers to the wheel arrangement of the locomotive. (also known to some Euros & slavfags as 2-4-2)

It goes like this. From front of the locomotive to the rear, 4 pilot wheels (the leading wheels), 8 drive wheels, and four trailing wheels (those below the cab.)

Other types would be as follows:
4-4-0 - 4 pilot wheels, 4 drive wheels, zero trailing wheels (This is known as American or Atlantic class)
4-6-2 - 4 pilot wheels, 6 drive wheels, 2 trailing wheels (This is known as Pacific class)
0-6-0 - 0 pilot wheels, 6 drive wheels, 0 trailing wheels (These are most often yard work engines or 'switchers')
0-6-0T - The same as above switcher, but 'T' refers to it being a tank engine, carrying its own fuel and water instead of having a tender attached to it.

These terms really only apply to steam locomotives and some electrics. Diesels typically do not go by this sort of designation.
>>
>>5679143
Why 4-8-4 over 4-6-2 or 4-4-0?
>>
>>5679143
>Other types would be as follows:
>4-4-0 - 4 pilot wheels, 4 drive wheels, zero trailing wheels (This is known as American or Atlantic class)

Oops, I fucked up. Atlantic class is 4-4-2. Same as American, but with two wheels beneath the cab.

>Why 4-8-4 over 4-6-2 or 4-4-0?

Uhh.. well now you're getting into tractive power and weight and all that shit, the real physics of locomotives. The more numbers, the larger, heavier and more powerful the locomotive tends to be. Some were set up as 2-10-2, or in the case of the Big Boy, 4-8-8-4, having two sets of driving wheels.

If you compare an old school 4-4-0 'American' loco to a 1940s 4-8-4 'Northern' class loco, the American is fucking tiny. Even later, more advanced versions are fairly small.

This guy is somewhat right.
I usualy build in castle style, so I sorted my bricks mainly by colors: greys, black, browns, sand...
I keep hinge elements, doors windows in other containers though.
I hate having my bricks sorted to much because I rarely rebuild stuff. And when I pour my bricks on the floor I have a better creativity flow.

>TFW trying to explain this in non-autism terms while liquored up

ALso it depends on what the loco was built for. For example, you wouldn't want a big diesel freight truck delivering pizza to your house, you would rather have a small car for that. Same is true of locomotives, steam, diesel or electric.

A smaller engine like a 4-6-2 can multi-role much better than a big 4-8-4. Means the smaller is capable of taking short trains on short trips with many stops, through rougher country and tighter turns.

The biggest engines were made for main line service only, taking the longest and heaviest trains on the longest trips, sort of like semi-trucks on the freeway.

So the one in >>5679162 pic was used for long mainline passenger trips, while >>5679156 locomotive was for fucking around with small trains that needed to make frequent stops to pick up or drop off cars.
