Bought 2, sold one last year. Funnily enough although the minifigs are awesome with a lot of accesories and little details the house itself fits in with no other modulars and I'm debating whether or not to keep it

Out of the sets I got recently Battle on Takodana.

Would have to be this amazing star destroyer. I was dead broke when it came out and had to pass. I'll never have a chance again because it's gone way too high since then.

Also kind of wish I got the Falling Water architecture set when they started that series. Always liked that house, and a set of it would have been fun to build.

>>5654172
I'm always so careful when I buy sets that I don't regret any. It's usually more regretting second guessing, or saving instead of just buying a set.

Have you seen that UV curing glue on TV? I bought a tube of that stuff on clearance. The light on it is a single LED but it is much less blue or purple than my black-light bulb. I would recommend that if you cant find a proper UV bulb. I made a quick animation to show off the light blue color and glow I'm getting from a single ultraviolet light emitting diode.

That makes me think retired themes. I like space, I'd go with Space Police III, Alien Conquest or something.

Hopefully they are about the same price as a regular lego modular.

Probably some normals who dont realize that toys can and usually do hold and have some kind of value.

When I was a kid my dad bought me all the classic gen 1 transformers shits, gi joes, and TMNT figures, plus lego. I played with those things until they were in pieces.

Only now do I realize I would be Trump levels of rich, even if I had kept them all in "somewhat mint, played with" condition.

And I also got the great news not too long ago that all my classic lego may have gotten trashed.....7+ of those big tupperware bins you see at walmart and shit, the big fucks, FULL, got a little waterlogged in a flood.

May have gotten tossed because "oh, anon, they got SOAKED!" Lego. In water. "Ruined".

Ive decided if its true I am going full nightstalker mode on my own dad.

>Willing to pay thousand of dollars for the first, beta-modulars which are super ugly and look unfinished.

The only one that's true of is Market Street. I'm not even sure why that is considered a modular.

I'd call the Green Grocer one of the top three Modulars they've made so far, and Cafe Corner is really nice too.

Only unfortunate thing is that Cafe Corner has literally nothing inside of it. Grocer has minimal stuff inside, but it has a fully furnished first floor, and a "rug" and I believe a grandfather clock on the second.

Exterior-wise, they're two of the best ones.

AH, if yer being serious...

Thank you. And I mean that. Thanks.

As for a deadpool, you cant really go wrong with getting one of the sets of them, but one caveat. So far I have bought two of the movie versions of Deadpool because of a misprint on his right leg (kneepad off center), both had the same misprint, both bought from different stores. Honestly, at about 80 cents for the figure, you could probably buy ten of them and finally hit the sweet spot and not be out too much cash. Or, wait a little bit and try your luck. The figure its based off of (one of the expensive 3rd party prints) has perfect printing, and the chinese variant, other than said kneepad, is perfect in every other way. Really just depends on how autistic about it you may be, or if you really care.

Long story short, its a great print, def WAY better than that Silver Surfer, but it has a little flaw.
>>
>>5654785
How's the quality of plastic? Would you be satisfied with the minifig if the printing was okay?

I really would like to get a Silver Surfer, he's probably my favourite superhero
>>
>>5654799
OH, the plastic quality is top notch. I know what the chinks did wrong. They printed ink (or more than likely did a decal) on a glossy surface and didnt add any type of protection to it (this is "THIN YOUR PAINTS!" tier rookie mistakes). I straight up rubbed the whole side of his face off with one firm wipe of my thumb.

Other than the printing, the build and the plastic are on par.

IMO, 60052 is. While people bitch about the cow car, there's shitloads of potential with this set, plus the included freight station and switches are a one-up on 60098 Heavy Haul and the passenger train you posted. It's almost like a throwback to some of the old-school train sets that packed a shitload of stuff in one set.

post the whole thing please, so we can see the side.

its ok to not use every piece you own.

color block. this means putting many pieces of the same color together in one place. you actually did this already with the blue on the back, which looks better than the top. for example, you could only use white pieces along the side as a stripe.

try repeating a shape or design in multiple parts of the build. the arches on the sides are a good starting place, do that again and again (i see more arches behind your hand). i also like the the center, where the crates meet those angled parts. thats another good motif to repeat

that said, good choice of color scheme, its not full rainbow warrior.

as it is, im imagining some colorblind engineer colelcting parts from literally everywhere and slowly optimized his space dildo for speed

Hey /lg/.
I work at a Legoland Discovery Center, and we get 30% off in our Lego store.
There's rumors we might get 50% off on days after paychecks in the coming months.
Are the big modulars still worth it for only 30% off?
I'm crazy frugal, and spending that much on any one thing(that's not a living requirement) sort of makes me anxious.
What do you guys think?

I doubt they'll accept it as is. It would cost at least $400 and compete with both their modulars and the winter village sets. The only large building they approved was the ghostbusters hq, so who knows?

I guess the people who have enough knowledge to reverse engineer it prefer to build their own buildings.

The Horizon Express warrants its 'Expert' rating, holy god.

I mean, I get that it sounds stupid when it has instructions telling you exactly what to do, but the sheer number of small nitpicky parts was what made it hard. This is one of those sets that has more plates than bricks.

Took me two hours to put together, with the locomotive being the hardest part. There's no way my 10-year-old brother could do this on his own, you know?

Just built the ford hotrod and it's quite a gnarly design. The printed doors are probably the best parts in the set though but all the shiny printed round tiles are great too! But everything can be improved ofcourse. It's rather narrow compared to my earlier custom rodded car.
I'm planning on widening it, give it a new windscreen and one of the old hinged roofs.

I'm also pretty sure the set uses some illegal techniques according to Jamie (the plate placed over the edge of a technic brick with a liftarm on it. Let's get to work!

It's that whole "It only takes a few seconds every time, so why spend a few hours and sort it ahead of time?" idea. Of course, over the course of a few months/year the time to dig will outweigh and then some that initial investment, but people aren't really built to think in the long term.

>Who the fuck is stupid enough to buy that shit?
A lot of people.
A few months ago I saw someone selling Pet Stores on eBay for AUD$700. Their regular retail price is AUD$269.
But yet this seller had them for $700 and not only that, it also said "5 available / 7 sold".

So that's at least 7 people retarded enough to buy a set, for almost 3 times its regular retail price, not only while it's still available at Lego for $269 (and less in some stores) but also from other Bay sellers for much less.

tl;dr - People are fucking dumb
>>
>>5656291
Just sort out your favorite / most used pieces. Sort out 1 or 2 kinds of pieces per week until its done
>>
>>5656475
>But yet this seller had them for $700 and not only that, it also said "5 available / 7 sold".

I'm pretty sure you can raise the price after some have sold. The 7 that have sold were probably at a lower price, and then the guy continually raised the price to what it is now.

>>5655615

Its phasing out right now. Most LEGO stores don't carry it anymore. It has been "out of stock/unavailable" on LEGO Shop @ home for months now.

If you can find it at retail, I'd get it while you can.

>>
>>5656784
Kind of. It shows a lot in their design philosophy too. Most of the sets and things they release lately are essentially designed to be what they are, and "play our way" which feels lacking. They don't really emphasize their more creative lines, save the mixels which at their core beg to be mashed and blended like how lego used to be. Cultivating imagination in the youth of today is more effort than it's worth, and they still sell sets like mad, so I doubt they'll change any time soon.

It also bothers me that many girls I encountered in our shop likes only friends and indeed sees it as one model.

And you know what shocked me?
8/10 asked children never played as "themselves".

I always put myself in the story I make - of course I have differnet names but I know that's me.

Did you guys did that?

>>

I somewhat agree that they went apeshit with dimensions and licences
>>
>>5656822
Probably because everything is these days. Airbrush out those imperfections and showcase an idealized situation.

Is there any kind of ad like that since then? I noticed around 2014/15 that they really started changing things. Around when those dumb stud launchers infected sets.

>>5656824
Wait, girls don't see any of the sets outside Friends (and I suppose Elves now) as "for them"? Wasn't that the whole point of the yellow face thing? To not exclude anyone? Lego done fucked up.

As for the playing as myself, I did that. I have a minifig that's kind of a "me" (although substantially cooler) that I made when I was younger. I think with the switch to flesh faces in licensed sets, and more of a focus on being accurate to the movie/comic/whatever that sense of being part of it faded away. Harder to make "you" these days.

>>5656828
And yet, I find all of that stuff fascinating too. I can't deny it's part of the problem, but it's also one of the joys I find in the hobby now too.
>>
>>5656829
Will have to look into that as wikipedia is telling me the town hall is. Only need to know so it looks right next to my custom GB firehouse.
>>
>>5656842
Just a quick glance, and the firehouse is about 36 bricks high. The bank modular was around 26. So it'll be about a floor higher than the general modular size.

Yeah there are some girls who like other themes (I noticed mainly SH for their favorite charaters and Scooby Doo was a HUGE hit.

I do notice also other sad way of gendered toy - there are many boys who wants friends for animals or food pieces but mad fathers are pushing them to the city/speed champions.

I was never restricted by my parents what to buy, maybe that's why I love all Lego and see it as universal thing.
>>
>>5656857
Super Heroes seem to be pretty ubiquitous, so that doesn't seem too surprising. Wonder what the draw for scooby doo was for them, though. Lots of potential reasons I can think of, or maybe they all combined.

About the friends stuff, I can see that, sadly. The weird minidolls (whatever they're called) instead of minifigs really does change the dynamic feel of a set, and some people get weird about that--myself included to a point. The fact everything else is still the same is cool though, so if I ever did find a set I was into I would still grab it. Then again, I was like that my whole life, and I didn't care if it was "for girls". If it was cool it was cool. It probably helped that advertising when I was a kid was in that PC test era where there were no "boy" or "girl" only things, even if they used to be. Or at least that's how I felt it was.

>Hey guys, how come LEGO doesn't promote creativity anymore, what with how they make you sign a contract that you aren't to use any of the bricks within a given set for anything but their express purpose?
>Also, how come they keep making minifigures of pop culture stuff? What happened to imaginative play? I mean, granted, I always would just make my own custom superheroes and video game character minifigs and shit, but now I can't!
>How come LEGO is so gendered nowadays? Girls can't play with "boy LEGO"!? That's a shame! Even though basically every possible study or survey showed that toys were already aggressively gendered and girls didn't want to play with LEGO if it wasn't pink because it was a 'boy toy', how could they ever do that?

Could you guys just shut the fuck up and get to your regularly scheduled creepy monster girl posting and Hulkbusterfag shit?

What the fuck are you talking about, anon? You guys are clearly the ones who have trouble getting outside of the basement. I work with kids and toys are aggressively gendered--girls don't want to play with anything that isn't pink.

But guess what--this is only with children. The fact you guys are talking about one or two chicks you've met in one passing instance buying Elves or Friends (when we all know those are most popular with you neckbeards) as if the entire female LEGO fandom (a small, niche percentage of fans, which is a given, because LEGO is seen as a "boy" thing) is into them is hilarious. Get out, guys. Real, grown-up women are into a myriad of things--my girlfriend, in particular, loves modulars.

It's almost embarrassing the complaints about "creativity". Is LEGO holding a gun to your head demanding you don't mix up your fucking sets?

The pop culture one is the funniest complaint--just don't buy the fucking licensed sets, you goon. I thought you autists avoided the license tax like the plague.
