May building challenges:
>make your own Dimensions team based off of a new franchise
>create a new Music star/act for Legovision 2016, also include any instruments or stage props, and don't forget an awesome name
>wasn't there also something about animal vehicles
>build a vehicle or fleet worthy of riding into Valhalla, shiny and chrome
>greeble: remake any set or build something with an absurd amount of greebling
>build a mighty micro vehicle (any surface type)
>can may be mini moc madness month: spaceship edition? yes it can
>build a brick-built animal!
>make a stop-motion / multi-frame animation

sucks the mini dolls have less points of articulation at wrist and legs n shit
>>
>>5649993
this thread is much comfier
>>
>>5650008
Agreed - The loss of articulation of the wrists and having only a waist joint instead of one for each legs hurts their 'action' ability. No running, no walking, only standing. They can only hold things straight forward.

It really cripples their appeal for kids growing up, I think.

You think they'll change it? I doubt it.
Minifigs always seem to stay the same.

Fuck. But plastic shit quality.

Why doesn't Nintendo and Lego just get together and make Nintendo Lego.
>>
I bought a new UV light today and decided to point it at my Disney minifigs. I think all the red glows slightly, the Orange on Syndrome glows really nice, and Ariel's tail also reacts. I think the pink in Minnie's bow, shirt, and skirt might also be reacting. Anyone else messed around with their Disney figs yet?

I'll start, with the GOAT Captain Redbeard
>>
>>5650037

>>
>>5650019
I've been animating my lightsabers like that over Lego photos. Looks rad in an official photo.

They must have some sort of deal with Nintendo already to keep putting games out on the Wii U while nobody else is, so I'm sure Nintendo Lego is within the realm of possibility.
>>
>actually wanting more licensed shit

nah, fuck off
>>
>>5650037
Because Lego understands the time of terrible stigma that adopting videogame "culture" brings.
>>
>>5650051
The games are made by Tell Tales Games, not Lego. They sell on every single platform, so they port to every single platform. Simple as that, and it doesn't mean diddly about Nintendo and Lego partnering.

They're made by Traveller's Tales, not Telltale, and Nintendo is infamous for their third-party relations, so even games that are ported to 'every single platform' avoid the Wii U.
Lego is for children. Nintendo is for children. It would be naive to think that Lego as a parent company (of sorts) don't have some role in making sure that their games are released for Nintendo platforms.

Games avoid the Wii U because it's not worth it to port to a different architecture than the 3 other main platforms on a console. Third party relations is usually misunderstood by casual bystanders, or morons who fall into fanboy wars.

The simple reason the Lego games get ports on it, and all systems, is that they sell and it's cheap to do. The only influence I see from Lego is that they don't release sub-par handheld ports and actually put effort into them so they can stand next to the main releases.

Some kind of Nintendo & Lego relationship is imagined exaggeration in this situation. The real naivety is thinking there's more to it.

I never exaggerated anything. I said that it's within the realm of possibility because whatever small relationship they have, based on these facts, it is at least somewhat positive.
>Games avoid the Wii U because it's not worth it to port to a different architecture than the 3 other main platforms on a console.
Exactly, and, like you said, in this case it IS worth it, and Lego surely knows that, unless you'd care to argue that they're devoid of business sense altogether, and simply let TT run amok with their license.

Seems like you're arguing a point that I never made (that lego and nintendo are besties), to be honest friend.

Hey /toy/. I don't visit here much, but I have a question:

In the minifig customization community, what's the prevailing opinion on pad printing vs UV printing? Are people mostly indifferent to what you use, or is it a brutal conflict like silkscreen vs sublimation printing in the T-shirt scene?

I just don't want to accidentally take a side in a war.

You may want to wait for daytime /lg/ or look on other sites. Theres a large amount of contrarian fucks and "purists" who will just shitpost you to death for even mentioning third party here.

Sadly I myself dont know enough about the differences, but theres entire websites dedicated to that sort of thing. Best of luck man.

Also, out of curiosity, what are you getting made that you need 1000 of them? Sounds cool.
>>
>>5649993
Where did the giant minidoll come from?

Also, I found a Snake Jailbird minifigure at the maul food court today. Should I flip it on eBay or put him to work?
>>
>>5650625

I don't want to drop too many details since it's just a preliminary idea and I don't want to be held to it, but I'm a game developer thinking of making custom Lego kits for some fans.

I can get the purists, really--I generally steer clear of the custom minifig community because it's full of stuff, like, minifigures clad in tiny trenchcoats made of actual leather to the point where the minifigure part just seems vestigial. My goal, though, is to match the mid-90s Lego aesthetic as closely as I can, mostly as a nostalgia thing. I'm even planning to match the packaging style, all the way down to the little stamp thing in the corner of the instruction booklet.

Ordinarily I'd go with pad printing just to stay true to the Lego look, but the price difference is insane. CitizenBrick is easoly over a dollar per color per printing area, while the UV places I've looked into are just .50 per printing area.

Both have strengths and weaknesses. Lego pad prints, and you can design stuff to fit more in line with lego if you pad print. UV you can get some extremely nice details, but depending on the 3rd party printer, the quality can vary from awesome to pure shit. Eclipsegrafx is an example of a good uv printer, and Citizenbrick a good example of pad printing

I've noticed the basic ideal of lego shifted from basic brick building in simple colours to complex designs as a focus. I blame adult collectors and kids being told they have ADD and no imagination.

There's also have pick-a-brick for all that other stuff.

pretty satisfied with it, other than the ludicrous size of the bike, and the fact that the rear of the bike looks incredibly unfinished. Glad to have a bunch of blasters and the slope pieces used on the cargo boxes.

I also like the symmetrical mottling on the legs, it gives the impression she's a rather scaly critter. Damn nice.

It pisses me off, because there was a guy who did a nice custom figure for Whiplash from iron man 2, and the bootleggers copied it.

Horribly.

And now you cant get the original anymore, so you either have to try and make one out of regular lego and not get the nice printing, or be very lucky and find a printing service that isnt all "but thats a copyrighted image! how DARE you ask me to make you one!" and pay out the ass for it.

I just said fuck it and bought the last spider gwen on ebay for $20. I dont care. The only other way to get her right now is there is another site with 3 of her left and they want $40 each for them.

Does anybody have any idea what I can use this guy for in my clone army?

I know he's technically a republic trooper and not a clone, but the shape of the helmet was too interesting to pass up.

I was thinking either a pilot, speederbike rider or some kind of heavy weapons trooper.

(also ignore the decals this is the only decent pic I could find online showing both the front and helm shape, the actual fig just has plain white arms)

Already I have not one, but three preorders lined up (luckily those'll only need to get paid for after I get more paychecks), and a regular order of Gunpla, plus a figure for a buddy. What I can't get from Hobbysearch, amiami, etc. I have lined up on Amazon.
I also have stuff I'd like to Bricklink, but it all has to wait. Fuuuuck.

I kinda wish plamp were a thing now.

Getting into robot anime got me into buying gunpla, but buying gunpla got me into buying stuff from series which I haven't watched yet, and now I'm lining up series to watch too. It's kinda nice.

I'll also use this excuse to post this here. I'm not sure whether or not to splurge on the Mazinger chogokins. Mazinger as a series is pretty fun.

I kind of do. It was a simpler time when everyone was the same. The one upside to the faces is recent sets giving troopers actual faces, instead of that blank head as if they would never remove their helmets.

The weirdest part is when you have old and new licensed minifigs next to each other. It's kind of jarring.

Yeah, all the buildings have some sort or partial interior decorating going on. Just the ground floor of my bank and police station are temporarily empty.
The black building was actually sort of the first city building i made when i came out of my dark age thanks to /toy/, it might still be my favourite to this day even though the interior is kinda shallow. It's an old shop that's cyberpunk spacified and covered in soot from exhaust fumes, it still sells old toys and other weird little things.

The new bar connector seems not quite as useful as the corresponding clip connector, because there the clip version has more freedom of movement.
With this piece and the bar with towball piece, it seems like they're filling in the family of small useful parts.
A modern version of this seems likely http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?id=312.
The new bar connector crossed with this http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?id=47854 or this http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=15712 also might be in the works.

Space Gun / Torch with and without grooves. They made it simpler so they could make them easier I suppose.
>>
>>5653372
The newer one looks kinda bland.
>>
>>5653372
I guess it is not just making them "easier", but they have been planning pieces with more uses in mind. The grooves on the bar part of it may get damaged or something like that when used in certain connections, or the exact dimensions of the piece were not what they needed for a new use.

I wonder if there are any test about how these molds work.

If you want a castle-castle and don't want to spend a lot, get the 2013 castle. It looks great as a display piece with a nice courtyard and fantastic front gate. If you have the money, you can get two and double the height of the castle, making it even more impressive.

If you like the sci-fi castle feel of Nexo Knights, however, the Fortrex is great. It has a lot to look at, can be displayed in two different modes, and is certainly not lacking in character. If you get it, the Library is a must-have however, as it forms the rear tower when the Fortrex is in it's expanded mode.
>>
>>5653030
is this a set or a custom? (the prison)
>>
>>5653433
I wonder how difficult it would be to modify this build to make a sort of sci-fi supervillain base
>>
>>5653489
just get the black spike horns from that upcoming elf set and you could make it work. Using some of the Green and purple from that set would help too.
>>
>>5653481
Itys old set. 2005 or 2008 I think

I just got a small box of good used Lego, the problem is that this shit smells like cigarettes. Any way to get rid of the smell? I don't feel like soaking these in water either. Is it true that the smell will eventually go away if you leave it in an open space?
>>
>>5651329
uhh thats definitely too pink to fit with the rest of the nexos
>>
>>5653541
>all Nexo's are really bright solid colors

FTFY.

Try soaking them in hot soapy water.

Try Febreeze.

Try soaking them in a mixture of water and Simple Green.

So what's the best current train set? I was looking at this one, but then noticed it doesn't seem to have connection points on the front and rear cars to expand the train, so getting multiples would really just be spending $150 for the middle car. Since Lego no longer offers stand along cars to expand your train, it's quite disappointing.
>>
>>5653712
Wow, holy shit. That's a boring ass trajectory.

That is why you never buy a train set without a bunch of extra tracks.

How solid is the stud connection if the grey piecevis missing?

It is actually not bad. I was about to suggest that myself. It basically becomes a slightly larger 1x1 round brick but it also had a bar on the side.

That's LEGO fandom for you. Remember the "ugh such a retread" pirate ship that just retired? $140 shipped minimum on ebay and already climbing.

The whiners almost never know what they're talking about when it comes to demand. Bet that Hoth UCS everyone hates at least doubles in price after it's discontinued.

As someone who collected the entire Castle 2013 line and the entire recent Pirates line, I'm so glad I didn't listen to all those fuckheads.
>>
>>5653824
Yeah, I bought the shit out the Pirates stuff, and have two of the 2013 castle still sitting under my bed, unopened. Bought them for $70 each during a sale. Was planning to build a giant awesome castle one day but might just cash them in.

Paint Tool Sai; I'm usually drawing in it anyway.

Now I'm wondering if my monitor settings are off. To me your edit looks too intensely red. I actually like the kinda-washed-out desaturated look; going to have to think about it and experiment.

(and maybe it's my eyes)
>>
>>5653778
I've seen them turned into really decent minifig weapons with some greebling added, like a telescope or tap piece on the back. Otherwise they seem kind of useless.
>>
>>5653847
On my monitor the spacebike airbrush.jpg looks like reality, while the original is incredibly washed out and the blacks are all grey.

Which maybe is what you want but it doesn't look that great IMO.

If you, LQ did the second pic then the saturation looks fine on my screen, while the original photo poster's looks very very washed out.
