Got a bunch of basing supplies so based my skullcrushers, all except for one, who sacrificed his base for the metallic lord of khorne on juggernaut i bought, since it didnt come with a suitable base. Still need 6 more of them for my army list. Anyone know where to get bone bits other than just skulls? Advice and critique always appreciated!

I'll do a Nurgle lord, then Daemon Prince next. Or maybe a spawn. It's kind of a cross section of the legion at different times.

They're *heavy* jump packs. Space Marines with jump packs have an increased movement characteristic and can move over intervening models. Inceptors can actually *FLY*; it's one of the keywords on their profile and comes with some additional roolz.

>who at gw thought these looked better then the current jump pack marines

I have an idea for an army after watching ghost ship last night. I want to do a custom army for tournies aiming for best painted but also have it playable on the table so maybe you guys can help.

I want to do chaos demons with an underwater theme. Seekers on steeds painted like sea horses. A keeper of secrets for the crab class and maybe some screamers are manta rays. This brings me to nurgling which I want to do shellnumemon style. Get shells the right side and then put nurgling popping out. Put two on each base.

I want to do a defiler and maybe some marines in corroded armour. Do super heavy rust and give them all filter mask heads to push the theme.

What else would fit well in an aquatic theme? I had thought of painting plague bearers as drowned men or maybe adding coral to them but I'm not sure. Welcome to all suggestions though.

For my Guard army I'm doing some recruitments from a feral and using some sigmar models to represent them.

Right now I have Sisters of Thorn as Rough Riders, some Elf Witches as Death Cult Assassins and right now I'm trying to get some Crusaders going. I can't decide between the two. I like the mask because it's part of the SoT kit so they look like they could be from the same world. However, the Witch Elf mask head also looks cool because it kind of looks like Baraka from Mortal Kombat.

Any thoughts on which one looks like a better fit?

Took me 3 days in total, but I'm a lazy fuck, so I was only painting for about 2-3 hours a day (and half of this time was spent on watching stuff in the background and waiting for paint to dry).

According to Google only three other people have thought this was a good idea.

Aside from the Apothecary heads from the Grey Knight Paladins and Deathwing kits, is there any techmarine appropriate head out there for terminators? All I can think is maybe just using the resin techmarine's head.

Ive been applying small amounts of superglue to stiffen the links up so if it does move about it tends to act as a solid piece swinging on a hinge if that makes sense. Im hoping to get it to stiffen completely but I risk filling in the holes of the links with dried glue if I over do it (you can really see it on the captain. Even if you're a total noob, don't try to be cheap on the brushes. High quality brushes help immensly, because you can actually keep the tip on them, and they don't loose any hairs that might stick to you miniatures. And' don't forget to keep your brush clean, don't let any paint dry in it, or the tip will be ruined a lot quicker than normal.

>>53974501
In general, you want to have barely any paint on your brush. Just slightly dip it into the paint, so it just catches a bit of paint, then stipple it on some tissue until you don't get any paint off it anymore. Then you can start drybrushing. Just don't do too much at once, until you find the point where you're satisfied with it. Remember, you can always add more paint, but you can't take it away, unless you repaint it or strip the whole miniature.

Your conversions demonstrate a willingness to experiment that is refreshing bodes well in this era of snap-fit and monopose.
Looking at that paintjob makes me want to warn you about painting straight gold, I used to do that, it's much better if you pick an appropriate undercolor (silver works), wash it, then brush the gold on top so that the highlighted areas are what shines. You could probably salvage some detail on center guy's aquila if you went at it with a wash. Same for knife guy's bandage.. Those fucking bases are tight, I can never get that black asphalt texture right and usually go for crackle paint.
Your barrels could use a drilling, not much I can say about that. Also try to tidy up the insides of those shoulderpads where the white overflowed. It's good practice for precise sections..
>>
barrel drilling how-to, anons?
>>
>>53975955
It's good work for a first try. Lava base does look nice but next time really try and push it so it's brighter around the yellow parts. The seal on his leg is also nicely done and the coats look thin for the most part but everyone improves more with time and practice. Next time puts some highlights on that gold, really try and make it pop, I recommend Vallejo's Glorious Gold if you don't have a gold highlight already.

The eyes and the lenses also look really good. Just keep it up and watch some tutorials and soon enough your later minis will be blowing this one out of the park!
>>
>>53976334
Get a craft hand drill with drill bits of the appropriate size.

Then uses a knife with a sharp point to dig a small hole at the center of where you want to drill.

Then use that mark to guide your craft drill.

Drill in a few mm and done!

Love the idea. Personally I would go to your hardware store and pick up a foot or two of #14, or 16 AWG cable. Depends on what you want but you can either get it in single or stranded wire. I don't know how you would try and get the cable to solidify so it doesn't bend on the final product.

Good to hear. Try and mix a lil bit of brown with Gehenna's we are talking about like just enough to turn that gold just a bit darker, not Balthasar lvls but a nice in between from that to Gehenna's.

Then, just using some thined down Gehenna's paint the higher points, leaving that first coat in the recesses.

Finally, on the very peaks, throw in Runefang Steel if you got it, make sure it's fairly watered down as you want it to transition nicely from the gold to the steel. Just remembered, thinned down, not too much on the brush, we are looking for just enough to keep the brush damp, not soaked.

This. Soak em in it in a tupperware container. Depends on the paint, but sometimes it comes off in a couple hours. Overnight will pretty much do it. You just hit em with a stiff toothbrush when you take em out to scrub em clean.

Wear thick dishwashing gloves though because your puny hu-man flesh will not withstand the Emperor's chem-cleanser.

Those aren't ideal (slow drying time mainly), but they'll work.
The metallic blue base looks nice, if a bit splotchy (you missed a few spots).

It looks like you didn't prime the model, which would leave the paint quite vulnerable to damage, and it may even rub off.

But not terrible for a first try, the paints were properly thinned too.

Yeah my only complaint with these models is that the grip on the guns is modeled on, how are they supposed to hold the guns with the grip in the way?
>>
>>53979617
They left the grip on so you could for instance, model it with the weapon hanging on a strap, or magnetically attached to his armour.

If you intend to model the marine as holding the bolter, you cut the grip off, as the hand is also modeled as having a grip in it.
You then glue the bolter on top of the grip hand.

for guides, scope warhammer tv painting videos for the basics, and then maybe watch painting buddha or something for more advanced skills. Most brands/lines of paint developed for miniatures are of generally acceptable quality (with the caveat that you'll want to avoid craft-store shit like humbrol or anything enamel) and the choice really comes down to what colors you need/what storage system appeals to you. dropper bottles (vallejo, etc) are neater and less wasteful, but do clog often, and getting out the last bit of paint can be a chore. Pots (games workshop mostly) are easy to access and broadly available usually, but the lids can easily gum up, form a poor seal, dry too quickly, or tip over when you're using them

Don't paint the shoulder pads white straight over black. Work up to it with layers of grey.
>>
>>53983394
You can do either. The color sprays contain some of the primer compounds I believe. Spraying a black undercoat first will add some darker tones to the recesses. It also lets you see spots you missed a bit easier than on gray.

But for real either is fine. Our Lord Duncan uses straight up color sprays without an undercoat or primer.

His skill and likability has turned him into a meme. The meme gets old after a while, but there's really nothing bad you can say about the guy or his videos.

I've heard it a few times and seen only one example, but highlighting paper like scrolls seals and books looks a little better if you fade into a darker edge than lighter.

Look at some vellum that's actually a couple hundred years old. The edges get thinner, move more, take the most damage. I'm looking for the pic i saved but the guy also filed into his GO purity seal to imitate frays and tears.

If you really wish to start collecting steel legion, keep in mind that they are even older than the current line of cadians/catachans. Their age is pretty noticable, especially when you put them next to a new plastic model you'll see their lack of fine details.

I felt the same way for awhile, and I still do sometimes. I'd love some longer guides for new minis that basically got totally skipped. But on the other hand, his techniques are pretty straightforward, and the longer videos that do exist really cover most of the bases/situations you might run into. It's just a matter of extrapolating those approaches with different colors/minis.
