I mean, besides some of the books having YUUUGE chapters that could be split into 3 different ones, the writing is decent, and the plot's pretty good, considering we already know the Imperium will triumph over the greenskins and their bigger-than-a-house Warlord aka the Beast from the start (the Imperium has the plot armor of it being the 32nd Millennium, meaning no matter what the Orks do they can't crush Terra).

So why all the hate? Is it because the Imperium gets its ass handed to it in spades by the Orks for effectively the first half of the series?

Daemons have strong as fuck troops, HQs and can take four heralds per hq slot so they can still monster mash or swarm with the best of them.

In the castellans of the imperium formation from fall of cadia it says you can bring enginseers priests and commisars as hq but is that with the standard retrictions of only 3/number of command squads limit and having to have permanent attachment with the commissars? Also do these choices therefore fill out the necessary 2 slots for the formation as normally they do not?

But yeah more rhinos, less 5 man csm squads, no combiweapons on the chosen (take the real deal) and less useless equipment like combat familiar ichor blood or melta bombs/ powerweapons. Give each squad a purpose. Chosen are costs but they are far better in cc than normal csm.

Well the primarchs were all primarchs, which are bigger and stronger and etc. than regular astartes, and Abaddon was a regular astartes to begin w/ before the Chaos stuff. So it really depends on how much power chaos has given him, which is difficult to quantify.

You need to switch the heavy bolters with autocannons. They do the same job better and can threaten more things at a much longer range. Chosen are actually pretty decent with alpha legion, I prefer plasma over melta for when they outflank. Those marines need rhinos, they will die without accomplishing anything if you don't bubble wrap them in a transport. I would put the lord on a bike and boost the bike squad to 10, maybe throw in a sorcerer on a bike to roll for invisibility. The lone terminantor lord will die pathetically. If you want to use terminators, give the lord a squad to move with him. While it is unfluffy, nurgle bikes are fantastic. You should also add more havocs so that you can have some more anti-tank. That being said, CSM formations really struggle with dealing with AV14 and superheavies.

Looking at getting back in to 40K after a long break (I stopped mid-way through 5th) and I'm eyeing up Tau. How viable is Farsight suit-spam army? I'm thinking:

HQ: Farsight and perhaps O'Rly?
Elite: Crisis bodyguard squads
Troops: regular Crisis Suit Squads
Fast Attack: XV-9 (Forge World) squads
Heavy: Broadside squads

Basically nothing but bulky dudes and drones. I'm still trying to get my head around how list building actually works in 7th so I don't know if this is even legal or not. But assuming the concept is do-able, would something like this actually work?

I don't want to spam Riptides... at least not yet.

Better to go 3 Squads of harlies with neuro disruptors and caress's, then run starweavers and Voidweaver. Sanguinary guard have to close to pistol range, where you melt them with neuros and then crush them in close combat. One harlie squad with caress' kills Dreadnaughts in CC. then dogpile Dante.

Basically the ending is fucking retarded because they screw up the pacing and shoehorn the SoS in as a plot-device because they needed to establish them in the setting more in order to justify the models.

Also, wasted opportunity to give orks more depth. Around the middle it looked like they were going to have some revelations about the clans and how they came into being and a good bit of proper grimdark with the orks raising humans as cattle, making humans worship the beast and so on. Then they decided to just have really big orks instead.

Also, annoying because it makes the orks you can actually play seem kind of shit. The beast waaagh was only a danger because it had superheavy warbosses, black hole guns, deathstars and all that other shit which will never make it onto the tabletop.

There's a store in my area, recently opened up by a guy who went turbo nu-male, who got his support from the fact that he worked at nearly every other store nearby.
