"Finished" pic related last night. It was a mini in a box with 2 others on clearance at MM. Figured it would make a good RPG guard/frostgrave man at arms.

Material was that shit rubbery PVC or whatever, so I purposely skipped a lot of the mold line cleaning. I just wanted to knock out the trio quickly. On top of all that, all my brushes are shit (been awhile since I even picked one up), so besides a few color bleed overs, I utterly botched his left eye. Oh well.

It's not half bad. A bit of wash and a some slight layering after that would make it look really good.

The weight limit for a First Class International Parcel from the US to other countries is four pounds. You said you estimated with five? Any chance you could make it less heavy (smaller box, split into two shipments, etc.)?

Also, there's a size limit to be mindful of, but the exact math escapes me at the moment.
>>
>>50613674
Well my secret santa was bound to arrive in Sweden on the 8th, but I didn't see nothing so I don't know.
As for myself, I just hope it arrives before I leave next week. I'd feel terrible to not be there, miss it, and because of my absence, having the gift sent back to user
>>
>>50613743

You think a little something on the gambeson would make it pop more to be worth it?

I'm happy with how the face turned out, it's certainly progress in my skin painting department. I need to get my colors right though. Need to start with a much deeper color instead of something so light.

I did some light washing here and there. Brown on the cloth and skin, black on the metal. Think I should hit it again with a thicker batch?

You can just sort of see the highlighting. Brushes are all frayed, so it was an uphill battle for the most part
>>
>>50613808
Can't you ask a neighbor to accept any incoming parcels for you?

Hope your stuff turns up soon, and can't you just ask a neighbour to sign for it?

I just estimated with the 5. It likely wont be that heavy.

Im the anon that had the jobless issue, and his model $ stolen, so i dont thibk id be able to send 2 packages. It shouldnt be that heavy

You can find lots of basics and stuff out there. You most basic approach is going to probably be prime them -> basecoat (the shadow or mid tone color you intend to use) -> ink wash (very thinned down paints, seep into cracks) -> highlight.

Reposting from last thread.

A while ago I an anon posted his Imperial Fists and when I asked about his weathering he pointed me to Tamiya weathering kits.

If your still around anon, could I get your method for how you painted the other parts of your dudes? I got Burning of Prospero as an early christmas gift and want to make some roughed up fists but yellow is such a finicky color.

Pic related is the marines in question.
>>
>>50615255
Good gods, idk. Put him on the back door of a Devilfish? There really isnt much else you could do. Hes too small for Crisis, Pathfinders use Ion and Rail, its too small to use as a Hammerhead gunner for plasma cannon.

>>
I got a resizing app, what is a good size range to post at?
>>
>>50616085
1.5 MB is about the maximum size that doesn't annoy me, but as a rule of tumb, aim for under 1MB.
Dimensions will almost always be reduced drastically if you crop around your model close enough.
>>
>>50615432
Not your guy, but that looks like an zenithal airbrush job. Here's how I'd emulate it:
- orangeish base
- orange/yellow from 75 deg above mini
- yellow from straight above
- pale yellow highlights at the plate edges
- Gloss clear coat (prep for next steps)
- decals
- brown/black oil pin wash, cotton bud up excess
- chipping
- matte coat
- weathering powders
- base
- final matte coat

>>
>>50616285
I'm pretty amateur myself but if I might say I think you are thinking in the right direction, your paint on the right seems like it is a bit thick, the left looks like the better consistency but with such a light color you are usually layering on top of others, highlighting the darker colors you have running into those crevices like you have here. Basically left is good application done at the wrong stage

It's a long and overly complex method but i'm stuck with it now so i suppose i'll share...

Base: Caliban Green
Layer: Castalan Green
Highlight: Castalan Green/ Warboss Green (50/50)
Highlight2: Warboss Green
Highlight3: Warboss Green/ Ushabti Bone (50/50)
Wash: Athonian Cammo Shade
Highlight: Ushabti Bone

You want to be layring your highlights vertically on areas of muscle to get a nice sinuey effect and if the highlights aren't popping as i like i usually wash the recesses in aggrax for a bit more definition.
>>
>>50616537
>>50616561
>>50616531

It's quite a monopose model, and the arms/wings are impossible to point anyway than slightly downwards (or even more downwards) due to the lower pair of shoulderplates, and most of the model's leaning to the left.

So I sawed of the lower shoulderplates, quite difficult considering how they're attached to the body, and repositioned it to a cooler pose, and reattached both pairs of shoulderplates.

The main problem with this model, imho, is that the wings, pointing downwards, covers most of thf cool parts of the model, and is a quite dull pose.
>>
>>50616655
Well then kudos to you because your work makes it look like I'd expect it should look.

Will this model do for a chaos spawn?
>>
>>50616680
It's probably not what he did, but the sponge method could work to emulate what he did.

Take a piece of sponge, dip it in some brown paint and wipe it off (you're aiming for something similar to a drybrush, but with a sponge). Sponge the brown over the parts you want to be weathered, and then paint a very thin line of your highlight colour at the bottom of the 'chips' - this simulates depth and makes them look like chips in the paintwork showing the base.

For the weathering on the legs, I've heard good things about putting a blob of Typhus Corrosion on the feet and then dragging it upwards with a q-tip for that grimy look. Hope this helps.
>>
>>50616804
How large is that base? The model seems a bit on the small side.
>>
>>50616804

"Here's a gift that I put a lot of meaning into, but you won't give a shit about" I've been around people that are "chronically depressed". They are a drain on you mentally and physically and unless they are getting help for their problems, they will wear you down and bring you down to their level. Got this guy last week, rather than focusing on my workpile I've cracked him open, hacked off the integral base, and I wasn't a fan of the swinging spiked balls hanging off the belly plate so I've filled in the holes and replaced a flimsy chunk of his hair.

Been building up some Tzaangors for fun, prepping for the Arcanite release.
There was a bunch of extra bits on the sprue so im trying to build up as many extra Tzaangors as I can.

I've ran out of things I can use as legs though so the guy on the left I tried to make a robe for and gave him a cape to help cover up the fact he doesnt have a back.

Second guy I found a broken daemonette body and used her legs as a substitue for the real deal, then gave him some mutations to cover up his back.

Third guy is pretty much a lizardman I have with bits stuck on him.

I'd be very surprised if they sent me an entire new titan. It's also difficult for me to tell what is actually fucked up or not because I've never ordered from them properly before, so is normal that rivets are missing from basically every piece? After pondering the issue of magnetising my blackstar missiles i found an answer.

A youtuber (stolasJC credit where due) did his by slapping magnet right on the back of each missile piece and sandwiching them.

I took it a step further and fitted miniature magnets inside the large missiles for a snugger fit.

Why did the LGS owner and the guy talking to him both look so surprised when i told them im converting models and want a mostly painted army before i play my first game? Is all grey or no extra bits to make them 'your dudes' THAT common?

Ive seen two of the guys there, one has a tau army barely painted but all models have paint, and the Tyranid player has beautifully perfect models, some half-dug out of bases into groups of space marines, and has them impaled on spikes/tails and stuff.
>>
>>50621725

They're going to be Night Lords, so the base will have to be dark, too. I plan on breaking that up with a glossy blood in the cracks. Painting together should be fine then?

Most people that like to play a lot don't spend that much time on the other aspects of the hobby.

you will find that the internet does not reflect reality and in fact half of the people who play this game tend to field armies in various states of paint, from "guy who is halfway there and always adding new stuff whose army looks cool" to "bought the newest cheese units he'll sell in a few months and didn't even fucking try" to "guy who is just shit at painting somehow even though he's been playing since the 90s" to "army full of commissioned models that makes you wonder why people are into a hobby about painting but don't paint" (not saying this last one is automatically bad, just seems odd to me)

I think it is a good philosophy to have your entire army painted before you play your first game, once you start playing you will realize how much better it is to play against fully painted armies. that said, as you buy more units over time there will be moments where you want to field certain things or try out combinations where you just can't get the models painted in time for the FLGS next weekend. hopefully you have the self control and time management skills to not end up being one of those dudes with a shelf full of thousands of points of shit you will never paint and boxes you have never even opened like I once was

I used to be like that with 40k when I was younger.
I started to play Malifaux and I promised myself I would only buy more models once I paint everything I field/buy. Sometimes I field a single model with no paint but they get painted the following week usually.
Sometimes it can get hard because other people don't just want to play and have fun their lists are really optimized and crap on your shit because you want to paint stuff to a decent standard first.

>Could one achieve a kind of "cracked crude cobblestone" effect from laying Agrellan Earth on thick and putting channels in to form the bricks while its still setting?
No.
You can get 1:50 cobblestone plastic card sheets, lasered mdf sheets, plaster and resin pieces, pre cast stones and also the mold with which to cast them yourself.
You can also cut mdf or cork to size tumble it around in a container laid out with sandpaper to smoothen the edges and start laying down stones yourself.
Another possiblity would be to use a stamp on either putty or foam depending on how long you want the surface to last.
Last but not least you can get a texture roller from green stuff industries with a cobble stone texture.

Using crackle paint will not work however.

also note: I have seen a lot of people who drill barrels with a pin vise but simply keep the hole as it is. this can be okay for some smaller guns, but looks ridiculous on heavy bolters, etc. so what I do is take a hobby knife blade, stick the tip into the hole and carefully twirl it around to shave the inside of the hole until it looks appropriate. this can ruin a barrel if you get overzealous so take it slow and get a feel for things, but it does look much better to at least try to widen the hole somewhat for large barrels. having a tiny pinhole in a heavy bolter is worse than just not drilling it at all, I have seen even official GW display models use the tiny holes and it makes me REEEEEEEEE every time
>>
>>50622972
Or you could just use a bigger drill bit.
Just get one set of different sized drill bits and you can drill the barrels of all calibers in 40k.

Need some conversion advice for my HH night lords.

I want to turn my Calth Marines into Night Raptors, but the problem is 3fold.

The first is weaponry.

They lack the arms for CCW and Pistol, which I think can be easily remedied with CSM arms. Unless I'm totally wrong. There are plenty of warp talon arms for LCs, and BP/CS should be simple.

The second is the pose. Stationary Marines tend to look odd with a pack, and I'm not the best surgeon around. I really like the best on the BoC Marines because they have harness for the jump pack

Which brings us to the third option: the pack. There are tons of 3rd party packs around, but they're so-so. I want the current raptor packs. So...

It might be good to just buy like 3 boxes of Raptors for. Conversion bits: 15 packs, claws, arms, weapons, ect. I could probably use the torsos for Terror Squads to make them a little more scary looking. Stuff like that.

using a knife has the added advantage of being able to fix the hole's alignment. if your drill bit wasn't perfectly centered, you can still just fix the hole with the knife to make it how you want and it becomes indistinguishable from a hole that was simply drilled if done right

with bigger holes like meltaguns the hole is cone shaped but it's not really noticeable, you have to hold the model up and directly look inside to notice the slight slant inward and even then it's not really easy to see. looks fine from any viewing angle

>using a knife has the added advantage of being able to fix the hole's alignment. if your drill bit wasn't perfectly centered
If you mark the spot you want to drill with a needle first your drill won't slip.
Drilling cleanly is better than fixing the aftermath of slippage with a knife imo.

But whatever works.

oh shit. I read feral, not feudal. Well it works too I guess...
If you can track down some bretonnian men at arms those would work well for that.
Failing that I'd say you could get some FireForge footseargeants. They'll be a tiny bit smaller next the old plastic cadians, but I figure they should look right next to the newer plastic AdMech stuff.
If you just use Cadian arms with rifles on the bodies you should be good. If you want something without the big shoulderpads you could check out Victoria Miniatures or Anvil Industries.

I didn't realize North Star was releasing a box of barbarians for the new supplement. Those models look really nice, I'll be picking a box up for sure. I have a box of the generic soldiers assembled that I love.

I want to take a second to bitch about citadels imperial primer. The shit is hot garbage. The pot I got had all of the grit settled to the bottom, and no amount of shaking or mixing seemed to break up the globs of grit. Absolute waste of money. I've seen Vallejo's brush-on primer suggested here and there, but my LGS never seems to have black in stock.

Dipping is just dunking the whole model in a large amount of wash. If you slather wash all over the model you get the same results.

Whenever someone says dipping, they really just mean dunking their model in a big can of gloss furniture stain which is like a very thick, dark wash.

I'm actually making some feudal traitor guard using Perry Agincourt torsos with Cadian arms and heads. They're similar scale but slightly more slender so I shave off the shoulder pads and helmet ear muffs to tone down the Cadian size. And I'm green stuffing fur cloaks to add a bit more bulk. My only worry is their feet are pretty small so I may greenstuff their boots a bit, or just go with a muddier base.

Don't have good pics because my phone camera is crap and this pic exaggerates the scale issue because he's leaning forwards a lot. This was my test mini and forgot to shave the imperial emblem off the gun.

Your skin is very good, the model is very nice... but... the leather patches on knees and elbows... they're too flesh tone coloured.

They just look like he has ripped elbows and knees and you can see his skin underneath.
>>
>>50627296
Ah cool.

The face and skin in general looks great.
Personally i would have painted his helmet in that big camo pattern they used towards the end of the war, just to give the mini some more color. But thats just me i guess.

Besides that it looks really good. (A very good sculpt as well, many 1/35 minis look kinda odd in their poses).

Maybe these leather patches on the knees could be a bit (or a lot even?) darker.. i mean, he is crawling around the trenches after all. But maybe you're going to add some mud/dirt later together with a base.

The head is pretty much the most important piece of the mini in that regard, which is why cadians with a headswap are that effective.
