Hey /tg/ my players are a group of seven level 6 adventurers. Due to a series of bad decisions they have ended up in an area inhabited by a Beholder (Though not its main lair.) And they are bent on fighting it. I don't want to force them to run away, so I was wondering what stats I should adjust to make the fight a bit less hyper-lethal.

I'm not trying to let all of my PCs survive, (in fact I intend on the fight bringing down at least one of them if they play it poorly) but I don't really want a TPK.

Any ideas?

Have you tried just straight-up telling them: "hey, this isn't a video game. The Beholder is way too strong for you. I'm not gonna stop you, but this is like a squad of bicycle cops trying to fight an aircraft carrier. Your characters realize that this is a very bad idea."

And don't have an NPC say that or something, just tell it to their faces before the start of the session, or they won't take the warning seriously.

What is going to happen with the DE Lore (and by extension Eldar as well?) after this whole Gathering Shitstorm?

Commorragh is pretty much fucked. Ulthwe and Biel-Tan are pretty much fucked. All relevant characters with Slaanesh2.0

Is there any hope for the Eldar, both DE and CE now? Or is the hope for the Eldar all with the Ynnari?

How do I portray a mentally unhinged NPC without them just coming off as a joke character or a twisted psycho? I don't normally use insanity as a character trait because it can often turn into a lazy justification for actions, but sometimes you've got NPCs that are just off their rocker. However, I want to be sure my players don't just recognize those characters are crazy, but can see that they're mentally unhinged without having to resort to either making them edgy evil or making them do stupid/random things. What makes an insane character good and developed?

Also, let's hear some stories about crazy PCs or NPCs you've seen/played.

They have to believe that what they're doing is not an act of insanity, but something that they do after reaching a (il)logical conclusion that that is what they should do. It's also important for the character to have a goal in mind, something that they believe in or are working towards, something that all their actions can be linked back towards in some obscure way.

I think that's a pretty reasonable approach to characters in general. I try to make sure my NPCs have a clear goal- even if only clear to me, the DM that sees everything and has all the information, because understanding a character's priorities is just as important than understanding their personality when it comes to RPing them.

Most of the time, I want some of that to shine through to my players when they interact with the NPC. It might not be immediately laid bare to the PCs, but eventually the players should learn more about an NPC that's sticking around in the campaign and be able to understand the justification behind their actions.

But insanity often means there's a disconnect between a character's justifications for their actions and their actual actions. That's not the only way to portray insanity, of course, but for the sort of character that just has some screws loose you'd expect that they might be doing things that don't logically follow from their motivations, expecting those things to help them towards their goal even if they're obviously wrong in expecting so.

Most superhero games take place in a single city.

Other than that, I actually prefer to do games that take place in smallish areas unless they're specifically about exploration. It makes it easier to have a recurring cast of NPCs if they don't have to follow the players around. It also means that locations can more easily be the site of more than one significant scene which gives them more character and lets the players see the world changing due to their actions.

When a party member scores a critical and the enemy will die, do you let him apply an elaborated finishing move for fun points?

It's one of those fucking monster girl events that makes every monster girl go into heat for a night
Everyone in the party has a different take on this event. For me it's a battle ground, as I need to fight tooth and nail to evade the love interest the DM has given me.
My character is after nothing more than a platonic relationship, having zero interest in any sort of romance or intimacy.
Meanwhile the DM has a semen demon, love obsessed, dullahan warrior after my ass.
It's a struggle, but it's been a part of the campaign for a while and I've long since accepted it as a side detail I need to deal with from time to time.

Calling in help from my NPC squad, DM rolls to see if they care. Most are uncooperative or just unable, the most helpful one? taken hostage by dullahan (What? why?)
One of my NPC squad members (cleric) finally helps me, but 5 minutes later is possessed by his god who also wants me to fuck the dullahan.

Hi /tg/ so over the last few months I've been running a campagain of Cyberpunk 2020 and gradually I've been easing my players into getting more into character when they interact in game.

Most of the group is doing fine however one of them is struggling with acting out a personality for his character. (He's a Solo who works as a freelance Hitman for the highest bidder)

What's are some tips for me to help him get more in character when we play?

I have a solid concept of how I want to play the character, but trying to evoke it publically is uncomfortable as fuck. I'm always worried I'm going to overdo it and just get mocked relentlessly.

I've found that perhaps the most intuitive way to get into character is to build your character by asking yourself very basic questions such as

>what are my characters strengths?
>what are my characters weaknesses?
>what are my characters motives?
>what are my characters aspirations?
>what does my character look like?
>what does my character like?
>what does my character fear?
>what does my character hate?
>where does my character come from?
>where is my character going to be in X years?

Also look for personality traits you can sympathize with. Borrow or steal character ideas from TV shows, movies or comic books and use them as a base for your character.
