If I place a bet of 10 units at 2/1, I get 30 units in total back.
If I place a bet of 10 units at 10/1, I get 11 units in total back.
If these are the only two bets available and I bet on both, my minimum win is 30 units, having paid in 20 units.
Why does this not mean that I will always make profits off betting? I don't understand.

are you retarded m8
your minimum win is 11

Sorry, that should read 110.

A single bet of 10 units at 2/1 gives your original bet plus 20 back, no?
>>74415884
even if you got 30 units at 2/1 odds (?), bookies make the odds such that they don't lose in scenarios like this. this is why they make money, because they control the way you gamble. sometimes you'll get spreads like this, where you can profit marginally by betting on two mutually exclusive outcomes, but that's usually because their baiting people into an extremely unlikely outcome with high odds. in this scenario your minimum win is 20 units, the same amount that you bet. even if you could consistently make tiny or even considerable profits betting like this, the bookkeepers would literally limit your betting capabilities or stop you altogether. they don't make disgusting money because there are easy ways for common plebs to profit off them

See, this is what I'm thinking. I knew I couldn't be smarter than the bookies, but I couldn't see any way where I could be wrong, so I thought I'd take it to people who knew better than me.
Even so, isn't it a case where you just adjust your bets so they're not even on both sides, and you can still make a profit? I'm presuming not, but I have yet to find odds that prove me wrong.
betting is for degenerates

For example, if I bet on an upcoming fight, the odds are 8/11 on one fighter and 11/10 on the other.
If I put a 1 unit bet on 8/11, I get 1.73 back, including my bet.
If I put a 1 unit bet on 11/10, I get 2.10 back, including my bet.
I have bet 2 units. I get 3.83 back. I don't understand how I can't consistently win money unless there's a betting fee involved.

What kind of bookie gives you your bet back?
>if I win
You won't
You're acting like it's a sure thing, and it's not
