Is there any practical application to astronomy and astrophysics or is it just useless stargazing? Seems to me everything useful to do with space is aerospace engineering.

How does knowing the planets revolve around the sun have anything to do with rockets aside from planning the course which isn't rocket design but the mission?

Rachel Carson's Silent spring. Like all environmental biology books. It is preachy and takes an unnecessarily aggressive and dismissive approach to making a point.
