What are the actual reasons this country and it's economic system failed?

Was it the politicians? Was it the country's Latin American culture? The country's environment and landscape itself?

Many leftist fb pages and a large latin american news corporation named telesur are really pressing the idea that the country failed due to a covert US CIA coup that secretly waged a war against them. Due to the CIA's history of intervening in communist countries, I don't think it's too radical an idea to say that Venezuela failed due to US involvement.

We all knew CNN was garbage before the idea Trump would be president. Now I have to wonder what plans we interrupted that caused them to go full Mafia on us. Not even a good Mafia because at least Don Corleone didn't have the brains of a dead weight 12 year old pageant queen and show off his work. He didn't have a severed horse's head (threat) out for all to see.
