Which tyres should I get for touring on tarmac in bad conditions and ocasional offroading?
So far Im thinking Heidenau K60 Scout or Continental Escape.
The K60s seem to be better offroad and have a great lifespam, but they are worse in wet tarmac.
The Conti's are a bit worse offroad but good in every tarmac conditions.
Any sugestions? Bike is a Kawasaki KLE500 if that helps.

What ever happened to the DBT collage?
I've got my first bike (bandit 650 SA 2005) and enjoy riding, but I also need to learn how to work on it. Which job should I do first? I need to:
1 clean front brake calipers, pistons, and replace seals there.
2 change front brake discs
3 install crash bars.
Should I attempt doing this on my own? I've bought all tools, parts and I have the service manual but I'm scared I'll fuck something up and have a bad time, it is messing with brakes/engine mount bolts, after all. Any advice?

Yeah, the Nighthawk 450. I had the cb450t hawk, the one that looks like a mini cb750f. There good bikes but i would suggest a newer bike like ninja 250 or even a rebel/nighthawk 250. Mainly because parts are getting more difficult to get, i couldnt find a cam chain tensioner for a friend that needed one for his nighthawk, second its isnt faster than a rebel in a straight line and its heavier.

Alright guys, I think it's finally time.
I'm ready to add a second motorcycle to the stable. Eventual goal is 3 bikes.
- Offroad / Dual Sport (Current XR650L)
- Track / Sport (Some kind of naked sport / streetfighter)
- Comfy / Touring (Some sort of classic / cruiser)
Current bike is the XR650L. It's getting upgraded piece by piece as I break things by flogging it through trails and occasional summoning of the skid demon. Absolutely love it, incredibly comfortable on it now, and it will go damn near anywhere. It'll cruise 80-85mph at a comfortable RPM with my current sprockets, and I can get it to ~110 when uh, passing. That said, it's not super fast, or super comfortable for highway use and I'm doing more of that kind of riding recently.
So, time to get something better suited to 100-1000 mile road cruises. I do want to get a sport bike and leathers to start going to track days and such, but I think right now I'd get more use out of a highway bike of some kind. I don't know anything about these kind of bikes, where should I start looking?

I want a classic styled bike or less dadmode cruiser that I can use to commute around town, or tour on if I strap some bags on. I like the leaner, relaxed, less "leather-chap" looking bikes. I'm going to buy used, but just for a quick reference I took a browse through some current offerings. Here's a few examples of new production bikes I can stomach the looks of.

>>17138314
My buddy picked up a Shadow 750 as his first bike and it is pretty great. Depending on which Shadow you pick you can get shaft drive, so no chain maintenance. I just picked up a Triumph Street Twin about a month ago, it has been really easy to ride in slow traffic and holds itself well on the highway. I've sat on the SCR950, and, because of the peg placement, the air filter is really close to your knee. The Harley Street Rod also looks pretty interesting.
I suggest going to local places and sit on the bikes that interest you. If it's your first bike I would lean towards used, if your finances are in order.

Nah, not my first bike. I started riding dirtbikes when I was 13, and currently have an XR650L (dual sport) that I'm going to keep probably forever. Right now I'm looking to add a bike that's more comfortable for mid to long highway rides, when I don't plan on doing any riding harder than a well maintained dirt road.
>>17138301
Get a 300 you can resell for what you bought it for and go learn how to ride pussy, you won't care about petty shit like ground clearance because you'll be trading up in a year anyway, it's not a lifetime commitment to one bike only
>>17138401
I really like some adventure bikes, was checking out the Africa Twins at a local dealer this weekend. Man, they're big and heavy compared to my dual sport though. I worry I'd be sacrificing too much offroad capability / increasing offroad difficulty too much.
Getting that thing up if you eat shit in sand, or on a hill covered in loose leaves or something seems like it would be damn near impossible. Especially with a full set of bags loaded with camping gear.
>>17136805
It didn't.
>>17138456
KTM 790 soon komrade
>>17138457
I see you brought the hondun riders
>>17138456
They are heavy but have quite a bit of offroad ability. They are also massively more comfortable on the highway than your XRL.
I picked mine up on a steep sandy downhill a couple days ago, granted it was unloaded.
>>17138457
This turned out perfect

>KTM 790 ADV
Didn't even know about this, looks sexy as fuck.
On one hand, I love the XR for its absolute reliability and ability to take abuse like a champ. The amount of damage and scars on mine do not accurately reflect the number of times I've eaten shit on it at all, it's held up way better than it should. It's pretty good at really nasty trails too.
On the other, I sure wouldn't mind a bike that didn't leave my ass feeling like I got held down and paddled by a dozen busty maidens after the first 50 miles of highway riding. Sometimes it's 50-150 or more to get to where I can take advantage of all that offroad capability.
>>17138384

I guess I'll have to find one I can ride a bit before I pass final judgement. What I didn't mention is that I'm 5'10 160lbs, so that does come into play when trying to toss heavier bikes around off road.
>>17138596
You're literally average.
The Africa Twin is sprung for a 150lbs rider according to Wombat.
>>17138596

>>17138758
But is the monster a decent bike to ride for any distance? I have a 90 mile a day ride. My ninja 250 was barely cutting it, and my supermoto was a pain in the dick to ride that far.
I'm not concerned with what people think of my bike, i just want one that is enjoyable to ride.

seriously tho, they ask you what you ride and you say "ducati" and their eyes light up. I used to ride an R3 and I barely got that reaction.

I just picked up a 690 Duke a week ago, and while doing a check of every component, I noticed that the manual says the chain should have .25" of play. I thought "that's tight af, but if it's what the manual says, that's that". I rode it to work the next day, and heard a ton of noise from the chain. I made a stop to check everything, saw that it was kosher, and kept going. 50 miles later, I look up the manual again, and notice that it's .25 from swingarm to chain.
I re-adjusted it, but I still hear some noise. How bad did I fuck my bike up?

that sound is your chain binding, probably not a big deal, just wears it out a bit quicker. 50 miles though i wouldn't worry about it

Human facial attractiveness is hugely based on symmetry. Humans love symmetry, and in the absence of symmetry, balance is required for it to not look like shit.

The best thing you can do is take out a low interest personal loan and buy used. That's not for poor people, that's for people who have better things to do with their money.
If you really are rich it will show in ways that are not accessible to poor people, like loans on new vehicles worth <$200k.

The average person who thinks they're rich for buying in cash usually has 10-20 grand and it's all in liquid assets because they're financial retards.
The kind of person that will never have more than 10-20 grand in liquid assets.
If at any point you are going to spend a lot of money at once, don't, because you won't be able to collect interest on that money once it's in the other party's wallet. The less money you spend at once the more interest you can collect, and the more interest you can collect on investments the closer your shit gets to being free.

Reminder that fucking motorcycles with emissions laws is stupid because the overall environmental impact of motorcycles is much lower than other vehicles so a non-retarded government should want to encourage their usage over cunts solo commuting in horrendously inefficient, high environmental cost to build, high environmental cost to dispose of 8 passenger monster trucks and crowding the roads increasing idling and emissions.
That's part of why Japan makes it economically attractive to use tiny cars and <250cc motorcycles, but they're actually being pressured out of it by the west because it makes it harder for imports to compete. (since fuck environmentalism if you can't make money off of it)

Where is the proof? Why is there the assumption that because you might need to do something occasionally you should use a vehicle capable of it 100% of the time?
