dry clutches suck for riding around town anyways
>>
>>17139128
It's not stupid. Motorcycles emit more particulates, CO, and NOx than cars. You know, literal poison gases at street level.

What's stupid is not even letting motorcycles filter to the front of red lights so they just sit there, idling through traffic along with the monster trucks, holding up additional cars so they just sit there and idle, because "all motor vehicles are the same and must abide by the same rules".

>Americans
>Smart

You can't even park your bike wherever it fits and does not obstruct traffic, but if it has pedals instead of pistons, go ahead, lean it against whatever the fuck you want because it's not a motor vehicle!

sitting on a motorcycle when it's hot out is really uncomfortable by itself. i much prefer it when it's cold and rainy 2bqh, where you can bundle up and use rain gear to keep dry and warm. when it's 90 degrees out and you're puttering through traffic around town on a literbike, it feels like you're being cooked alive.

>That's your roomates bike lmao
Indeed it is. And I have enough experience on it to know that it is not nearly as fun as a supermoto in any capacity except for maybe long distance rides.

>a ninja 300 is faster around a track than a wr250x
Depends on the track. Faster tracks maybe, slower tracks it's no contest. The WR is faster to ~60mph than the ninja 300.

People don't buy either of those bikes to go fast around a track anyway, unless its a kart track, in which case the WR250 is much faster around the track.

But we're talking about a new rider here, not track time bench racing. For a new rider a WR250 or a DRZ is a MUCH better first bike.

>0-60 times

the ONLY place a WR250X is as fast as a ninja 300 is on a supermoto track. People race DRZ400SM against us on ninjas in certain classes and they get fucking dumped on, even at Sonoma, which is a track that favors handling.

I'm talking about actual racing, because I actually race them lol, you're the one bench racing a bike you don't even own.

Is a WR250X more fun than a ninja 300? That's a matter of opinion, and depends on where you're riding it.

Is a WR250X as fast as a ninja 300? Only on a supermoto track or 0-60, and that's simply a fact. It's less aerodynamic so it will lose out at higher speeds, and not as good in faster corners.

>>
>>17139490
>>0-60 times
>>mattering on a track

It does matter if your track never gets you much faster than 60mph, then any advantage in speed a Ninja has beyond that is completely useless. See:
>depends on the track

>the ONLY place a WR250X is as fast as a ninja 300 is on a supermoto track.
Which is the primary place a new rider will actually take his bike to a track, especially if he buys a supermoto. If he buys a Ninja he'll probably ride it for 6 months on the street then realize how big of a mistake he made and get something better.

>People race DRZ400SM against us on ninjas in certain classes and they get fucking dumped on, even at Sonoma, which is a track that favors handling.
Clearly the higher speed bike is going to have the advantage on faster tracks. But why the fuck would you buy a 300cc ninja and track prep it to take it to the track. 600c bikes are a dime a dozen and much more worth the time and effort.

And track times are irrelevant. the question was about a first bike. Ninja 300's are shit first bikes compared to a good dual sport or a supermoto.
>>
>>17139479
>For a new rider a WR250 or a DRZ is a MUCH better first bike.
only if you can flat-foot it. and even then, the taller seat height makes the bike objectively harder to learn on than a bike with a lower center of gravity.

A WR250X will be as fast or faster anywhere a new rider is likely to ride his bike. Period. That is why its better answer to the original question than some slow shitty pseudo """sports""" bike.
>>
>>17139517
>600c bikes are a dime a dozen and much more worth the time and effort.
600cc bikes are WAY more expensive to run on track than a ninja 300, you have no idea what you're talking about. this conversation is over lol, you haven't done anything but cry about how 300's are useless despite your own admission that they're faster in anything but parking lot-tier corners

the 6r is on the heavier end of the 600's though, and weighs as much as the new cbr1000rr

on a more open track though the higher power will just walk a 300 with no problem, and potentially out handle them as well with much better out of the box suspension, brakes, and electronics

it's not just flat footing though. at pre-countersteer speeds, it's much more difficult to balance on a bike with a higher center of gravity. with the rider being such a huge component of the bike's overall weight, where your weight is distributed plays a big part in low-speed handling.

600's have the same amount of maintenence and only slightly more expensive tires than a 300cc shitbike and are significantly more suited for the track than some 300 you're going to need to blow a couple thousand on just to get the suspension and brakes up to par.
>>
>>17139611
>You lay a bike down at speed its going to get fucked up no matter what
no, not at all actually. frame sliders might save you $900 in the parking lot if you're inept enough to drop your bike (toppest fucking kek if that's still a consideration for you, 2bqh), but they can also be the difference between replacing an engine cover, plastics, and handlebars, and having literally your entire bike totaled.
>>
>>17139632
Please enlighten as to why you think a 600 is somehow significantly more expensive to take to the track than a 300 shitbike.

Yet more clues that this retard has no idea what he's talking about:

>only slightly more expensive tires than a 300cc shitbike
If you weren't a casual newbike, you would know that you have to replace tires on a 600 far more often than on a 300

>blow a couple thousand on just to get the suspension and brakes up to par.
Cartridge emulators for the fork, aftermarket shock, and springs are well under $1k, and upgraded brake pads and a stainless line are about $100

the more you post, the more it's apparent that you are totally clueless and should jump out the nearest window immediately
>>
>>17139637
>not having insurance
>people never knock over bikes in parking lots

$40 is cheap insurance for the latter and having motorcycle insurance is no brainer insurance for the former.

Also your hypothesizing about what will happen to a bike with sliders in a high speed crash is not based in reality. Most bikes that go down at speed slide on their side with or without sliders. If the crash is bad enough to catch a tire and cause a tumble, the bike is fucked with or without sliders.

Cool imagination and shit opinion tho.

>>
>>17139644
I'm talking about track bikes, not people who own one bike and go to the track once a year:

-tires are ~$40 more and you'll need a new rear way more often

-600 uses way more gas

-twice as many front brake pads, need to be replaced more often as well

-going faster so if you crash it's probably going to get a lot more fucked up
>>

>Proving my point: The post.

Dude is okay spending significant amounts on a shit tier bike instead of just buying a practically track ready 600 for the same money that is faster and handles better. Then tries to complain about the insignificant amount of money it takes to tire a 600.

It's cool that you like shit pseudo """sport""" bikes bro. But that doesn't change the fact that they are slow and useless on the road and on the track.

In reality the best thing a 300 has going for it in tight shit is probably the skinny rear tire making them turn really easily. It's one of the things that makes SV650s easier to ride than 600s too and those are heavier than a 600.
>>
>>17139749
go look at pictures of track bikes. why do the vast majority of them display a conspicuous lack of frame sliders? these aren't joe bro fair weather riders like yourself, they have put in major time and hours into bikes and have personally seen and experienced more crashes than you have most likely watched on youtube. they don't use frame sliders, in an environment with smoother, more consistent pavement than you will find on most any public road.

Funnily enough my room mate seriously regrets his purchase after riding my bike.

Fact is you got super defensive because you have some strange queer fascination with slow shit sportbikes. I gave someone advice on a first bike and you went full autismo talking about 300s on a track. Then I ahd to point out to you that there reallly is no reason to take a 300 to the track because you can get quality 600cc sportbikes for cheap that are more capable and more suited without extensive modifications.

This then further sent you down your autism sprial.

Yeah the back tread does look a bit dull.
I'm just wondering why he's selling it for so low. It runs "pretty well" but says it's in great shape and just needs time spent riding it because it's been sitting. Rear drum brakes worry me a bit as a new rider and I may have to replace them at some point.
I doubt he'll let it go for cheaper than listed but maybe he'll see someone who's willing to take care of the bike and ride it full time as opposed to someone older and less active.
I'm in a bind and my cage needs more work than it's worth to pass inspection so I'm selling it for hopefully enough money to float me.

Normalizing the horizon/horizontal axis they are both leaning pretty significantly. Dude in the red is clearly leaning a but more but it could be argued he's a pro on racing slicks.

Guys I just need a quick confirmation, I'm buying some brembo road and track pads for my fz8 but the pads are for an fz1. I know the fz1/8 are pretty much the same and they both share the same sumitomo calipers as the old gen r1s. I shouldnt have any issues installing them should I?

Question, do you guys think the new z650 would be a good bike for starters? I fell in love with it at first sight, and I can definitely afford it, but I don't know if it's going to be too strong for me.

What dirt bike should I look for for my GF?

She's 5'5" and I want something that she can touch the ground on without having to get the suspension worked, but she already rides a street bike so I don't want something anemic. No two strokes for this first one because I don't want to scare her away from it.

>Letting your gf ride
I was looking at buying my gf a cheap bike as a surprise present so she could ride with me but got to scared. I have no idea why. I've ridden at 270kmph+ many times before. Every weekend I treat the Twisties like isle of Man and never think twice, never worry, never feel anxious.

When I found a good bike to buy her I got overwhelmed with fear that she'd fall off or get bit by a car and it hit me that this is what she feels. Whenever I go visit my parents my mom tells me not to mention bikes cause it makes her worry and I always thought she was too paranoid but now I understand.

Get your girl something small and safe, and make sure you buy her all the best gear.
>>
>>17141722
How bad was the puncture? I got a screw in a brand new tyres (literally 2 days old just my luck) and wanted a quick fix. Shop couldn't pick it up till the next day but I wanted to ride so told them dw senpai. I just pumped it to 48 psi at the gas station and rode like hell down the highway for 25 mins to the local shop.

if tubeless tires you just need a plug kit and pump.
super simple to plug a tubeless tire.
if tube type you need the tools to pull the tire off and a spare tube or patch kit.

>>17141722
You can patch it yourself as a TEMPORARY fix. Shops use a mushroom plug. They take the Tyre off, cut a hole. Pull a plug through. Shave it off. That's a full fix. I had one on a brand new tire and it lasted the life of it, shop charged 40$
>>
>>17141737
It's a tubeless dual sport, would I have to worry about it popping under impact or are they sturdy enough to ride around on?
>>
>>17141748
Sturdy if a shop does it properly. Mine lasted the full life of the tire.
>>
>>17141745
That's not a bad price desu, the salesman at the dealer wants to do it himself for free, but from what you posted I'd rather have the service guys do it properly.
>>
>>17141748
it its not on the sidewall or the very edge of the carcass or a massive hole gashed int it itll be fine.
larger holes may need multiple plugs to fill it properly too so always have a few extra plugs

If it's just a projector it should work fine with a proper bulb

The other guys had it covered, but +1 for keeping a plug kit in the storage area under the seat. Its good to have just in case of emergencies to make it home or to a shop.

Also if you're brokesies look for a local guy who fixes bikes on the side for cash. You can probably find either an experienced shadetree mechanic or a licensed guy just looking for side cash who can do the work for half of what a dealership would charge. My drz's engine took a shit and I had a guy rebuild it in his garage, saved me a cool 600 bucks and he was even a licensed, experienced motorcycle mechanic.

Just get some waterproof connectors and you'll be fine.
Go with a bucket though not those ugly chinkshit headlights.

vfr800´s have all the wireing infront, 2 relays, tilt sensor and almost all the plugs which it makes a bitch and almost imposible to reroute.

If you get a dual sport headlight, you could probably tuck/hide most of the wiring behind the plastic bits

I just realized I can get alot more for my old cage than I thought. I was thinking weight prices cause it doesn't have a driver side airbag or horn but I can get more at a scrapyard cause they sell them off as salvage
I might be able to get everything I need to start riding

Good call on the plug kit, definitely don't want to have to pay for a tow again.

Will probably use a local mechanic for anything else that I can't fix myself, gonna try and wrench as much as possible though.
