From this pic it looks like you would want to twist the rack counterclockwise while rocking and pulling up. You can spray the boots with some armor all and let them sit overnight, it does help soften them up.

I know. Im using the clover app. Its a pain in the ass to copy and paste in it.

Yeah they've been soaking in armor all for two days. No dice. I tried that. Maybe the rubber is too thick.

Would heat help?
>>
>>16546293
Depends, cutting with a knife would be fine if you can but i wouldnt recomend a dremel. If there are no cracks or anything in the boots you could still use them but i would honestly just get new ones since if they leak it will lean out your bike
>>
>>16546310

>>
>>16546321
>>16546322
The last time I dealt with really hard carb boots I just used a hacksaw for metal to cut through them between the carb and the intake ports on the engine.

Doesn't really matter if they're ruined since you're gonna replace them.
>>
>>16546310

The fact that you're having trouble getting them off tells me that they're probably not bad. Usually if they dry rot they crack and don't hold on to the parts anymore.

If you cut them you absolutely have to buy new ones, vs. only maybe having to replace them if they're bad.

I'm the dude with the 83 magna, I'm still using all the original boots. Took them off and soaked them in a bag of armor all while I rebuilt the carbs.

You could spend the $40 on other stuff.

D606 rear MT21 front is the holy grail, I spent months looking for better alternatives before my TAT trip but there really aren't any. They're great tires but they're legit knobbies that happen to be street legal. If you're actually looking for 50/50 tires you can do better.

Most road riding will be on the 17"s with Avon Trailriders but the dirt wheels/tires will see asphalt riding to and from the trails.

If you aren't going to be doing totally legit technical offroading, you can definitely get something more street oriented. The D606 rear will get you in that ballpark though, and the MT21 front double that.

>>16546720
We averaged 36mph over 23 days, and it was 6800 miles, so about 188 hours of riding 8 hours per day. Could definitely do it faster than that if we could travel over 55mph though the midwest, and now that I have much more offroad experience. If I was racing I could probably do it again right now in 160 hours, so lets say like 18 or 19 days.

what's the first thing to fix when diagnosing front brake drag? my dirt bike toasted some sintered pads extremely quickly. i put new pads on and it's got an audible drag when pushing in neutral, but it doesnt make it hard to push. but i believe the brake fluid is not making its way back up the line to the res.
should i rebuild the caliper or master first?
>>
>>16547139
Audible drag while pushing is normal, the pads need to drag a _little_ bit to keep them clean.
To test for increased wear, make a scratch in the material (like a mm or 2 deep) and ride a couple thousand km without breaking. If the scratch is gone, your brake might be dragging.

Why are you getting advice on this shithole instead of a real Honda forum? Stop that.

Remove the clamps completely is best. Remove screws, fish clamps out with a pair of long needlenose pliers. Cheap Harbor Freight etc is fine. Then gradually pry the carbs free from the boots with a long flathead screwdriver. When you disassemble the carbs keep the parts from each carb together because it's common for some to be slightly different.

Got a manufacturers service manual? Carl Salter site has a good free selection, Pirate Bay ain't bad, and Honda Shadow forums (why are you here? go there, dumbass) should have correct year or close.

One way to pry is to insert flat tip blade into your pry area and rotate the screwdriver.

You can also spray WD-40 where carb goes into boots.

After carbs are off inspect boots for cracks using a bright light.

Odds of them fitting are highly questionable. I'd separate them with moving blankets, old quilts, whatever because odds of chafing are high. I do that when densely packing a trailer.

You'll have to be careful to tie all of them down snugly with tiedown straps so they don't move about. Tiedown straps are best used to suck each machine into its own corner of the bed. It's gonna suck to do. I'd rent a car trailer and load them on that if they don't fit. Put the Hog in first since it's heaviest. Tie it down, then repeat.

While I'm at it, open question to the rest of the thread. I'm looking for another motorcycle. I've already had my fun with supersports and the best sport tourer of all time, can anyone recommend me a few motorcycles in the following categories? I'm American, I live in New York City, and have a space to keep it so no worries about outside storage. (Since motorcycle theft has been steadily increasing the last couple of years, but that's mainly for dirtbikes, dual sports, and super sports. Have you tried two bikes in the bed, one on a motorcycle tow hook carrier? I've purchased bikes and used mine for when I didn't have the appropriate wheel chocks and didn't want to risk bending up my Pitbull stands from any hard bumps.

Cb600 because I think they have very classic great styling

Fz-07 or fz-09 because they are simply a blast. Some of the most fun I've had on a bike

No fucking clue sorry

won't the bike hydrolock?
>>
>>16547496
Actually I just found a cheap motorcycle trailer at harbor freight
So we can get two in the bed and his precious chrome will be safe
>>
>>16547485
One truck plus a trailer would be the smart play. Trailers are much less suffering.
>>
>>16547504
His air intake is probably still above the water level.
>>
>>16547506
Three in one bed is also a good bit of weight if your truck is a half-ton. Loctite the trailer hardware when ya put it together and make sure your wheel bearings are well greased. Trailers are handy as fuck. So is a spare tire for da trailer.

I'm not a beginner anymore. I never liked the GS500. It's barely decent for what it is. It's great if you have literally zero money to spend on a bike. People practically give them away, like the Buell Blast. At least it is better than Buell Blast.

The GS500 also has an ugly frame, honestly. I'd rather have a classic style GS (like a GS1100). With a nice light exhaust and some good tires, that would be a stable heavyweight.

>>16547502

I've been eyeing the CB600 and CB900. They're very tempting. I haven't had the chance to try the FZ series. Never had a thing for Yamahas until I found out about the YZF750. I'll look into those.

>>16547506

Nice, that's a smart move. Just make sure not to haul ass with that thing in the back. It's really heavy bike (like almost all H-Ds ever to exist)

Thanks ill grab a spare for the trailer
Truck is a Sierra 2500 so I "think" the wieght should be fine
Especially with the heavy one on the trailer
>>16547530
Noted. Will take it slow
>>
>>16547534

Just my opinion. If you like yours, power to you. I feel the EX500 is a better buy. or anything else depending on how much displacement you're looking for.

GS500s are dead reliable though, I'll give you that.

I mean sure, your wear items are also retarded expensive, oil changes are twice the price and diesel costs about 20% more right now.

If you don't need a diesel, the modern crop of gas v8s are stellar.

>>16547630

I like to think there is a difference between "gittin gud" and "It feels like I'm on for half my ride"

I just wish they made Pilot Road 3s and 4s for my bike's front tire size. Maybe it's time for that 17 inch wheel swap?

>By the time it starts to warm up enough and feel like it has enough grip for some fun

I can't think of any tyres that take more than 3 minutes to warm up.

I did have angel GTs which are likely the same compound as whatever you had (pirelli and metz share rubber compounds with different tread patterns) and I did notice they were temperature sensitive, but it didn't take half the ride to warm them up, you just needed to keep on them when you were riding so they'd stay warm.

One time I did a ride to Connecticut all the through the local roads, it's about 3 hours like that. Lots of lean on those twistier forest roads in about 60 degree weather. It took about 30 minutes for them to "feel" right. Even for highway use, they feel very odd within the first 30 minutes of use. I tended to stick my viffer because of that for a while. Maybe I'm not riding them hard enough? They don't feel like they have a lot to work with, reaching the edge of the tread is very unnerving on these tires.

I wouldn't either because they aren't worth it except for commercial very high mileage users, and the first time a diesel breaks your fuel savings are obliterated.

Not useful unless you just want to stare at that instead of the road. The only thing you really need is an oil pressure warning light and a charge indicator light.

I don't like to presume things about situations I really can't know nothing about but it might just be all in your head if it takes 30 minutes to do it.

There are tyres that take as little as 40 seconds to heat up.

If other tyres are gonna give you that confidence immediately and not take 30 minutes then that's all good, I understand though.
>>
>>16547726

I hear ya, mate. I think you might be right. Ironically, the issue tends to go away the more I get back to riding it later in the season. Maybe I'm just being a nutter.

I've seen your webms before, you do some maddening leans on the street. I'm too afraid to do that often because of all the debris on even the best driving roads. How long have you been riding?

I had a 125cc dirt bike as a kid but I wasn't very good at riding that, I've been riding on road since mid 2014 ish.

I just used to ride that road a lot, and what you see is usually not the first lap of the day, I'd go up and do 2-3 laps or however many until the bike ran out of fuel. The risk of crashing didn't really bother me.

It got completely overran with police (even on a weekday) and I've started tracking so I don't really do it as much these days.
