Why does everyone on /dbt/ say highway when they mean interstate (freeway)
A highway is a 2 lane road with traffic going both directions and are usually 55mph.
The interstate is a higher speed, one way, multi lane road.

You have the 2500? Answer is yes if you can fit 'em. I has trucked manybikes.

Since you has 2500, keep an eye out for a used liftgate. This is mine and it's moved many useful things including a mill and a Miller 340 welder tho I had to assist it with a jack for those loads:

You know why there wasn't a domestic market before? Because American firms suck ass at producing decent small bikes at acceptable prices. >Because American firms suck ass at producing decent small bikes at acceptable prices.

The history behind that is Honda beat them to the punch by innovative casting and machining. The margins on small bikes are not worth it for a US firm. The name of the game is money. Honda have the most successful internal combustion engines in history (even more than Model T Ford and aircooled VW) because they did it right and sold globally.

It is indeed possible that american manufacturers will somehow capture a good portion of that market.
Call me a pessimist though, it seems unlikely.
Maybe, maybe if one of the major player decides to launch a new sub-brand, markets it properly and, of course, builds a good-quality, affordable small bike.
But even then they'd have to compete with the compelling option of higher-displacement imported bikes (a la SV650).

They just dropped Victory because ugly Boomercruisers (despite excellent engines) is a saturated market. Sportbikes are also a saturated market. There's nothing in the way of epic improvements to be made and the toolup cost is brutal. Polaris has great engine skillz but no currently suitable powerplants. They could buy Rotax and be part of the herd, but it's still a dangerous move.

I've been putting together road bags since the late '70s. I suggest you go over your motorcycle and use that to determine what tools to bring. I wouldn't buy that kit as the quality looks questionable.

Assuming you don't have a Harley, I suggest a 3/8" drive ratchet, 3 inch extension, a universal, 10mm and 12mm sockets plus any sockets common hardware suggests, a decent Crescent style wrench that fits your axle nuts unless your toolkit came with one that doesn't suck, a folding set of metric hex keys, a quality multitool (I wear one everyday so I don't put in tool kit), and a JIS screwdriver kit like

https://www.amazon.com/Bessel-Vessel-Difference-Screwdrivers-No-220w-3/dp/B00E55DL4I/ref=pd_sim_263_5?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00E55DL4I&pd_rd_r=4063JJBC4048QWV1EH0V&pd_rd_w=kZupr&pd_rd_wg=l3NyF&psc=1&refRID=4063JJBC4048QWV1EH0V

I have two of those.

Scotch brand electrical tape is useful, and don't omit a spark plug socket.

You can tweak above over time. The old trick of buying one tool every payday, no matter how trivial it may seem, pays off.

If you can find a service manual for your machine or close enough online, download and save to your phone.

>Lithium-ion battery costs have already dropped by 65% since 2010, reaching $350 per kWh last year. We expect EV battery costs to be well below $120 per kWh by 2030, and to fall further after that as new chemistries come in.

But they offer significantly better range, shorter refueling times, the ability to be refueled in seconds while nowhere near a charging station or other vehicle, and have been proven to be able to last for hundreds of thousands of miles with only basic weekend maintenance.

I haven't seen any 300k mile harley lightnings laughing at all the F4is around, and what really matters for a mode of transportation? You can say "bikes are just for fun bro" but in the end, it's transportation, and if it fails, you're going to be calling for a tow while some guy on an ethanol-fueled sportbike is digging into his backpack for that spare fuel can that'll get him another 60 miles after about ten seconds of work. Your spare battery, if you have one? Doubtful to get you as far, and probably much heavier

By that time I'll be decades dead, and for a long time fuel will remain available for trucks and heavier vehicle use cases. Are you an autist or just trolling?

I like future tech but the future isn't here yet so it doesn't concern me yet. I can adapt to anything because I'm a skilled mechanic. When batteries crush everything else I'll put them to work serving me. It's all about me.

IRL expect many years of MIXED fuel and power options because the vehicle world is diverse and no one cares about your autism.

I already stock some bulk non-ethanol fuel because I use it for various small gas engines (that battery power cannot yet replace, good luck with battery powered chainsaws!) so if it came to that I'd still be effortlessly covered. I'm in easy reach of LP, CNG, and if I got silly enough my local welding supply will happily sell me hydrogen and even propylene if I wanted to experiment.

We won't run out of or stop using CNG and LP in my lifetime and electric cars don't replace CNG and LP. I can convert my generator, one of my trucks, and any of my HDs in a weekend. Unlike you I actually follow the real mechanical world because it's one of my lifetime interests.

So we wait UNTIL the EV fleet is a form and fit replacement for our individual use case. That's smart, not BTFO you mong. Vehicles are disposable consumer goods and most will eventually hit the shredder. Use what serves you. IDGAF about anyone else. That's their problem.

Also your cited EV estimate doesn't include every vehicle type and use case but you knew that when you trolled. Motorcycles are the hardest to form-and-fit replace because of size and weight constraints. Cars are easy. Trucks are more difficult because they must be capable of towing loads often in excess of their own weight. I'd fucking LOVE an EV work truck since I could tap power for welders and compressors instead of having a genset or using shore power, but only a few prototypes are in use so far. >top-speed-limited

You mean like almost every bike currently is?

Isn't it strange that internal combustion motorcycle manufacturers don't advertise horsepower or top speed specs on their websites, but electric motorcycle manufacturers do?
>>
>>16548048
Both VTX are fucking durable machines. My skilled, experienced Honda dealermechbro has ~90K miles on his 1800 with oil changes, tires and basic maintanence. He loves all VTX and could have any Honda he wanted. He beats the fuck out of everything he owns, which are all Hondas except an ancient Guzzi Eldorado he basically abandoned.

No, because insurance. This isn't new and many old musclecars were derated for easier sale back in da day. EVs motorcycles post stats because they need to convince buyers they are viable.

Note lack of EV Kawasaki H2s at the moment.

Coolest EV two wheeler is this. EV powerband natural for trials.

yeah and 1) that's terrible too and 2) thankfully it's fairly easy to circumvent with an ECU flash.

So why isn't the same thing done for sport cars? Wouldn't insurance be cheaper?

Suzuki has won plenty of races, and their cars sell so poorly that they stopped importing to America.

Anyone else use dish soap to wash your bike?
My roommate says it's bad for it
He uses car wash soap I mean that makes sense but how can dish soap hurt a bike?

I believe it contains micro abrasives, so it wears at your clearcoat, removing its shine. It also has a high salt content, promoting rust.

I'm not him but at least in my country you can get pretty much anything from eBay - I bought an (new) Akrapovič exhaust there and it was neither cheap nor was there any reason to suspect foul play.

They're vastly superior from a performance standpoint. The torque of an electric motor is instant, how can internal combustion engines with 200 moving parts hope to compete as battery technology advances?

Not sure how most sports cars are calculated by ins companies, but actuaries also include crash repair cost and how easy it is to "total" a vehicle. Cars bore me so they aren't my specialty. I'm incidentally familiar with muscle cars because I was interested when they were new. Then motorcycles seduced me and I didn't look back.

It will cut through the the Clearcoat eventualy, leading to fading and paint damage
Probably unlikely tho

You could look up the MSDS for a given dish soap, because all chems must have them online.

If you wash it off I see no problem. I've used Dawn which is aggressive, but I wash my shit at the car wash after initial degreasing then ride it dry. I prefer not to let water sit on engines and electricals.

This is why Dawn is aggressive:

>>
>>16549267
well yeah... eventually. but youd have to wash thousands of times for that

if your benchmark is 0-60 launch, sure

clearly not by the IOM TT results
>>
>>16549299
>if your benchmark is 0-60 launch, sure

That's what it is for most cars and bikes, since you can't get to track speeds on public roads.

Are Cleveland Cyclewerks bikes any good? I'm looking around for my first bike and for the price of a used Kawasaki EX250 I could get something like a new CCW Misfit 2. Am I missing something?

What does /dbt/ thinks about the Benelli TNT 300?
I'm seriously considering getting one but probably I'll wait for the rumored 400cc with ABS version.
The other options I have is the MT03 but it's way more expensive or the Rajesh Dominar 400 with ABS who still isn't in my country's market (it might be cheaper, with ABS, but with a smaller fuel tank and heavy as fuck)

I'd buy a used Jap bike rather than a new CCW Chinese parts machine. Small company equals tiny dealer support and no aftermarket. No CCWs have made it to my area yet but it's another Chinese clone engine. I prefer Japanese quality control even when they sometimes farm out production.

Always look for popular, proven machines when buying a firstbike and that's not a bad idea for anybike. Let someone else be the beta tester.
