Looking to get a z125 or grom for commuting to work (it's 25 miles away). Can these go on the highway? Or will I be stuck on the access road (Google Maps tells me it will be an additional 30 minutes to get to work if I don't take the highway). What's the next step up for a bike that will go on the highway? I'm 5'4, so I find these bikes are just my size.

just get a ninja 250, or 300. I'm like 5'6" and I could sit on a 300 easy with both feet firmly on the floor. so yoyu should be able to ride it okay

Don't be a faggot.

I'm 5'4" and 115lb, the only bike I've had issues riding was a DRZ400 that's got like a 37" seat height.

It doesn't fucking matter if you can't get both feet flat so long as you can lean the bike over a little and get one foot down you are good.
>>

What the problem with death gripping? It's not like I'm not gonna release the throttle, I just hold it steadily.

My arms and hands never hurt. I don't have blood in my hand after some time but I can just move it a bit to make it flow again.
>>
>>16425083

I'm not afraid to pick up a wrench. I have different priorities than getting "the best." I want something I'll enjoy, I like vintage and simple things, things I can work on myself easily. My dad pulled this bike out of a dump in the 70s and rebuilt it himself. He used to ride it with my mom before I was born. He's too old to ride now, and his knees hurt. He's been wanting to Sell it but it would kill him to lose it permenantly, so I decided to buy it.

>>
>>16425384
Those speedos are cheap and off by 8 to 10mph.
Even then youre screaming at 70mph and the only reason you can do 70 is because of the aero.
A grom is gonna be much worse at these speeds. It will do 70 at max revs and max throttle if the wind is in its favor and youre tucked on the rear pegs
>>
>>16425400
8 to 10, really? That's horrible
>>
>>16425408

i adjusted the lever free play exactly to spec and the shifts feel crisper but now its hard to shift sometimes and literally wont shift at all when stopped. cannot get the thing into neutral when stopped at idle at all even with rolling, moving a little to move the parts in the trans. nothing works

should i say fuck the manual and go from 4mm to 2mm on the lever? my first thought is that its not disengaging fully

Thanks man
It's a sportster XLH. He has a lot of the stock parts still, for example this is a smaller tank but he has the original in a box still. I am not a huge fan of the handlebars, I feel like clip ons or a clubman would look really good on it but part of the appeal of it is that it's something he built. He completely stripped the wiring out and did it himself, he also has an additional carb for it he took out of a jaguar (shiny chrome piece on the right side) but the original is sitting on the seat in the pic. Somewhere I have photos of my dad in his 30s with it and I think it'd be really cool to recreate them.

So the CBR250RR is pretty much done. Have to straighten the handle bars, mount mirrors, and tape the indicators on and it's technically road legal. I avoided an inspection by processing it as a historic.

I need a fresh battery too, it has to be jump or bump started at the moment. Starts fine off the electric start after it's run for a bit.

You have to mess around a bit with the idle adjuster as it warms up as well. Once it's warm it actually runs great again.

The exhaust mount got bent in slightly when it was hit so there's a small gap between the top of the midpipe flange and the can at the moment. It's deafeningly loud as a result. It's pretty funny.

yes it was the 90s that was the style of the time you fucking blind melon.

You really don't wanna watch any 500cc GP racing from that time period unless you want an aneurysm, body position isn't really the be all and end all when it comes to riding, it's probably like 3rd or 4th in importance.

What you think of as "good body position" only really appeared recently, it wasn't until 2006/07 people started leaning off as far as their arms would let them.

Body position affects lean angle and maximum cornering speed, which kind of is the be-all end-all of riding

Doesn't matter much if you're not chasing lap times though. You could argue for hanging off in the name of safety, but that doesn't even work unless you hang off for literally every corner to achieve maximum traction regardless of speed, but that's just dumb. Unless you're riding on shit tires you have more than enough traction until you can actually feel the Gs.

>Body position affects lean angle and maximum cornering speed, which kind of is the be-all end-all of riding

hell no it's not, this is the first thing they'll teach you when you want to go faster on track, that making up time in the corners is the most dangerous and difficult place to actually make up speed and if you want to go faster you want the bike to be going straight basically as often as possible, riding fast is about straights not corners.

I have good corner speed at the apex and good body position, I am not fast, it's all for fucking nothing if your braking, corner exit and lines is crap and mine isn't that good, good body position is like icing on the cake, maybe it'll help you get that rear tyre to the limit a little bit sooner on corner exit and maybe carry a few more km/hr at the apex, maybe retard stoppies a bit better in the braking area but if you can't take those things to the maximum anyway it's not gonna make much difference.

If you're leaning off like pedrosa but the guy in front who is crossed up like crazy can paint a black line with his rear tyre he will just annihilate you.

Given it's age if you do mod it, I strongly suggest bolt-on mods that involve no cutting of any stock parts, and to hang on to the stock shit. Don't fall for the chopped Ironhead meme with non-junk classics.

Mags are easy to rebuild or have rebuilt. "Mag is fried" is not specific. Jockey Journal and Chop Cult have some good magneto threads.

To conveniently check for spark on a Fairbanks style mag, rubber band or tack weld two good spark plugs together because Harley coils fire pole to pole.

You can always install a contact breaker instead of the magneto if you run a battery, and that will cost a lot less than 800 bucks.

If you ever redo the top end, don't buy high compression pistons. Low static compression is your friend on kick-only vintage bikes.

It would make a fun Sunday ride. .

Any neets here with baikus? I have a great bike, money to spend on gas, and plenty of time, but I never go anywhere. I don't have anywhere I want to go to, and riding circles around my neighborhood feels like a waste of time and money. I had a job, but had to resign (and never got to ride due to bike issues at that time). Thus, commuting to and from work isn't an option at the moment.

I go to a gym, but only a few times a week. I don't have any companions, associates, or meeting locations to ride with/to either.

What should I do, /o/?

>Inb4 job, I was asked to contact someone about re-hiring me, I'm attempting to do so.

treat the road like a track
give up on 3d women
run from the cops
if you're going to crash aim for something that will kill you
get good at wheelies

Go on cool rides. Whats the issue? Find somewhere cool, or some good roads, and put a route together and go do it.

>>

Looks like the bike comes with free chicken tendies

Yf you aren't a neet that owns $40k+ in vehicles you need to GIT GUD.

Also fuck kawasaki

I'm getting better at riding all the time. Making a solid transition out of being a squid too. I'm not hektik though, I'm a regular model citizen who lives right next to the police department, fire department, and city hall.
>>16427811
I have nowhere I really want to go. The sights of my local metropolitan/urban areas are mostly bland, and I can't/don't want to ride on freeways at the moment.
>>
>>16427834
Where do you live? Don't take freeways, take country roads that are twisty to some city a ways away or something.
>>
>>16427816
Those custom livery jobs are always very bad in person because they're so complex that a proper paintjob would cost as much as a brand new bike

Orange peel, overspray, etc. I've seen ones that were done with the fairings left on the bike. Almost mistook the paint splatter for rust.
>>
>>16427829
I don't have a Kawasaki bike. I have a 1985 Honda VF500F.

>>16427836
I took a small trip to a nearby town and mountain on the first weekend after I got my permit some time back, and it was okay until I crashed at an /o/ meet.

I haven't thought of a countryside ride. I don't know how much I would get out of it without a destination, though. Especially alone.

I don't mean to whine and complain, it just bothers me that I feel I have to have a reason for riding beyond transportation. I don't think that's wrong.
>>
>>16427846
Is it custom? I'll keep an eye out for that if I go to check it out in person, thanks.
>>
>>16427861
It's either custom or cheap chinese fairings.

Almost 90% of my rides start with no destination. Just go explore and have fun.

the only reliable light/middleweight V4 package honda put out during the 20th century

everything else under a liter was prone to one catastrophic failure or another

what is power like on a v4? my list bike was a 600cc i4 and it was perfect for me. how does a v4 compare?
>>
>>16427902
damn I'm not too good with electrics how do i begin to diagnose that bike is stuck in garage
>>
>>16427865
Do you end up doing anything besides riding? I just don't like my area's visuals for riding, nor the visuals of surrounding areas. I don't have countryside stretches or green meadows available, just shitty, dangerous mountains.
>>16427868
It's stellar. I had a scooter before, but this bike is just so smooth and enjoyable if properly tuned and maintained. Just mighy be a pain to maintain if you need to clean your jets or do other carb-related work, so keep that in mind (there's four tough-to-get-to carbs in it).

I got my bike for way more, so if it's clean and runs well, it could be a great choice. Bonus points if original key, since I don't have an original myself.
>>16427876
I don't ride on freeways at all. My riding has consisted of circling my neighborhood, and two trips to my gym and back. I just have nowhere to go.
>>
>>16427906
Torquey engine with a broad rev range

There's almost no such thing as lugging the engine, but it'll run out of steam near redline
>>
>>16427952
So it makes for a rather nice DD-able powerband, then?
>>
>>16427956
Yeah, it's like a parallel twin but not shit and you can set your drink on the bike while it's running without it slowly vibrating off
>>
>>16427962
Not that I need a sixth conveyance, but there's an '86 VFR750 for $1750 and an 03 VFR800 Interceptor for $4500 in my general area. Figured I'd see what was out here out of curiosity.
>>
>>16427964
Older VFRs usually have electrical problems and gear whine from the gear timed cams
Older-newer 01-02s supposedly have problems with closed loop operation but dyno numbers after blocking the PAIR valves don't support the theory that it's in any way significant
Newer VFRs have a dip in power where VTEC kicks in and are more reliable (when was the last time you had a problem with a cam chain or CCT anyways?)
The newest smooth that out a bit but it's still there
Liter VFRs are pretty damn okay, but shaft drive
Yamaha and BMW make better sports tourers. The hondas are cheap for a reason.

That's all you need to know about VFRs.
>>
>>16427974
Great info; thanks man. I think they're nifty machines but never really learned much.

Absolute newcomer here

Why is a "litre-bike" bad choice for beginners? Is it only because they are fast?

Are they really as uncomfortable as people claim?
>>
>>16427981
because we're all trying to sell these shitbikes we got memed into and nobody is buying ;_;

Is letting an 8yo (experience-wsie) drive a 1000hp bugatti unsupervised a good idea? no

Depends on the person. They're not as comfy/upright as sporttourers or standards. If you have good core strength you won't have a problem but some people can't go more than 30 minutes on them.
>>
>>16427987
>bikes don't like to change direction mid corner

lol wat
>>
>>16427981
leader bikes aren't just fast, they have a retarded powerband and are big and heavy. They're like 600cc supersports but stupider.
>>
>>16427991
They don't though
>>
>>16427992
>retarded powerband
*fun

I'd rather have the choice between GS500 tier rev-range and absolutely retarded lightspeed rev-range than having a mid-tier rev-range all the way through.

But personal preference pls don't hate
>>
>>16427991
I'll take Gyroscopic Motion and Inertia for $600, Alex.
>>
>>16427997
Sure, but it's definitely not a beginner friendly powerband.
>>
>>16428001
all bikes do that

who knew beginners got to ride GP bikes because running your engine backwards makes cornering easier

pls do not massively underestimate beginners. 4chan is not CYAchan.
