Well there is one place east of Des Moines that's reasonably curvy (a little nature preserve southwest of Prairie City). Some decent elevation changes over a couple miles, then it's either dirt roads or going the same way back. Nothing properly twisty like Sunspot Highway in New Mexico, but it'll suffice for now.

I started on my monster 796 this summer and my only experience with a clutch was my Suzuki 450r quad. Would say if you are confident then get a 650 like a ninja 650, Suzuki 650, fz-07. I've been wanting to ask these questions for quite some time now but always forgot.

So, how should I shift gear from first to second in the city, releasing the clutch slowly?

What's the optimal revs to cruise in the city? If I ride at 45kmh in second gear I feel like I'm just on the verge of needing to shift to third. If I remember correctly I should be about 6k revs in second. Generally I feel like I should be around 4k or something more to cruise in the city.

Another one, I never seem to be able to rev match shifting from second to first, the engine brake is always there.
