Nice baiku. I think you should get some braided lines for the front. Not because they work better but because it'll look cooler.

DR650
Owned one and loved it
Rode a few DRZ400s and they all felt like squishy pigfat shitbikes
>>
>>16236476
The DR-Z400 is objectively the best expert level dual sport bike.
> mileage
It's a mid-sized 4stroke single cylinder bike, so it gets at least 50mpg.
> handling
It handles nothing like a supersport. It it tall and light with a steering geometry set up to be very agile. This combined with the wide handlebars make it very easy to change directions.
> brakes
The brakes are designed for off-road and aren't so twitchy they will lock up easily on slick surfaces. They are completely acceptable but require a firm squeeze, yet with a larger diameter rotor upgrade like on the SM model you will find it taking no effort at all to slow down very quickly.
> power
When you're a good rider you don't need 100+ HP to pass everyone on the touge. Git gud faget.
> carbs
The CV carb found on the DR-Z helps calm down the twitchiness of a lightweight single.
> seating position
The tall seat combined with a completely upright seating position puts you high enough to see over all but the highest brotrucks. It is also a very comfortable position which puts practically no strain on your lower back or wrists.
> price and availability
The bike has gone unchanged for the last 15 years so there's plenty available for very cheap. The popularity and lack of change keeps the resale value high so it's easy to sell. This has the downside of making them expensive to buy in the used market but can be avoided with patience.
> suspension
The Dr-Z400 features a fully adjustable Showa cartridge forks and shock which offer splendid damping characteristics. You can tune it to your riding style with the clickers and preload adjusters, but you will benefit from a respring if you're a fat fuck. Lose some weight.

non vcucked VFR800

Twice the Cs, twice the Gs, and high mileage should be okay

cons

>designed to be used with panniers. underseat boot is inconvenient to get to, or impossible if you use the cowl, and holds little, also gets water in it if you don't use the cowl
>everyone uses the cowl and loses the grab rails
>how many fairing bolts and plastic clips can one bike have? never enough. t. honduh engineers.

possible cons:
>makes a REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE noise
>everyone takes off the intake snorkel so it sounds cooler, but more crap might get into the airbox, check the filter regularly
>some people drill the airbox so it sounds cooler still but this happens to every bike
>>
>>16236519
Just replace fairing screws with the 1/4 turn fuckers. Those things are the best.

Get a quick shifter.

But seriously, practice the following sequence: clutch in blip throttle, change gear, clutch out. Gearing differences at the top end will require less blipping than the lower gears

>>
>>16236535

>>
>>16236530
It would take probably 300 miles to have the issue you're describing with that tank. Not that big of a deal.
Also is it that hard for you to pick up a 300lb bike?
>>
>>16236535
blip and slip, under normal braking if you're blipping right you should never get compression lock.

Under track braking it's going to happen if you don't have a slipper or don't manually slip clutch yourself (especially on that last gear) as there's much less pressure on the rear wheel.

I'm overcomplicating it though, just practice your blipping until it's smooth and quick, motorcycle gearboxes are usually smoother the faster you operate them so whip that elbow and blip it in nice and quick.
>>
>>16236535
When you downshift, do not change throttle position. It will rev up by itself.

Hello, my name is Vix and I would love to learn everything about motorcycles.
I think a nice little kawasaki or something would be good for me so I can learn the basics while I save up for something fancier
I would love any advice I can get on where to start out. Any books, or videos that I can check out to get some knowledge, or any personal advice for beginners.
I know NOTHING about bikes.... So anything at all would be helpful :) Thank you.
Btw, it it's important I am 5'10 and pretty chubby, but also stronger than most females I have met. And I live near Atlanta Georgia, so if there's anyplace near me that I should scope out or anything, like I said any information at all would be appreciated, and again; Thank you SOOO much!

Hi all. I'm wondering if anyone here has switched from Sportbike to DS, and how/if they've regretted it.
I had cut my teeth on a CBR600F3 - I rode that for about 3 years. Then I spent about a year on a Thruxton. For me, the CBR was more enjoyable all around; mostly due to the nimble handling and less wind buffeting I experienced on the CBR.
It's been about 2 years since I sold my Thruxton, now I'm thinking of getting a bike again, and dual sport bikes have always had a soft spot in my heart for some reason.
I'm thinking if getting a DS, maybe with an extra set of smaller wheels with more Street type tires for a sort of super moto esque kind of experience when I want to enjoy the twisties.

the DRZ400 is a cheap bike for kids who can't afford better and couldn't do an oil change without professional help. it's one rung down from the WR450.

when it comes to dirtbikes and sumos, you trade engine durability for further performance, or you pay more for a better engineered (and more complex, and more expensive when something finally breaks) bike.

piston rings every 10k, whole engine every 50k, or a shitty, slow, pigfat "motorcycle". your choice.
>>

>>
>>16237248
1. please stop spreading misinformation, thank you.
2. riding > wrenching
>>
>>16237248
you also give up rev range and power just so the motor doesn't wear itself out so fast

if you want to preserve an engine but still get a lot of power out of it, a single cyllinder isn't the best choice
>>
>>16237248
>cheap bike for kids

Yeah.

The DRZ400 IS cheap, but it's overpriced in the sense of shit costing money at all being overpriced.

It's also pretty dumb to give up performance for maintenance intervals when sumos and dirtbikes are literally made to be weekend toys and competition machines.

If you're commuting on one you might be a motovlogging kiddo

the US can keep bike insurance lower due to how few bikers we have though. also, most don't even make claims because fairing damage and the odd broken controls/bent forks issues on your 90s sportbike equals a salvage title.

if every state allowed filtering at the least, you'd see a lot more bikes, bullshit learner laws (they'd pass because bikes are still a minority and a luxury), and higher insurance rates.

I don't understand, how does burger insurance work?
If you crash they pay you for the damage you do to your vehicle? In here it's the opposite, companies pay for the damage you cause on other vehicles and things, if you damage your bike and it's your fault you get nothing.
>>
>>16237507
Depends on the coverage.
Third party is typically mandatory.
Comprehensive and collision are not and cover your own vehicle
>>
>>16237507
Depends on the coverage

>pay for other people
the states mandate this to some extent or another, except for a few bastions of freedom (like WA) because you're so unlikely to damage someone else that it's almost worth the risk of being sued for your entire life
>pay for your own shit
full coverage. it's five times as expensive. but still cheap because bikes are cheap.
>>
>>16237509
>>16237511
How much more do you pay to also have those?
How much do you get if you crash, all the damage costs? If they "total" the bike (I understand they deem it unusable, destroyed) can you keep it for spare parts or rebuild it or it becomes the company's after they pay you?

I pay about €350 a year for coverage on third party.

>>
>>16237513
Depends

Also if they total it, that's it. You buy it back, it's a salvage title for as long as that VIN exists, or you scrap it with them. State law may prevent you from registering it until something has been done, usually involving a licensed mechanic, and may even prevent you from dissasembling it at parting it out yourself. Also, making a "new" bike with a different vin using that bike may also carry additional red tape.

Because fuck you, insurance companies know what's roadworhy and what isn't better than you do. Body damage on a 90s vehicle is equal to a disintegrated frame and engine on a 201Xs vehicle.
>>
>>16237513
If you total you just pay the deductible. Of course premiums go up as deductible goes down.
I pay 1800 a year for my $20k liter and have full coverage with a 1k deductible in Canada

I'll never get over how fucking dumb chase is. I don't know if it's still up but he had a video of him drunk while riding that bike the night before he crashed it.

>American
If there are any they're small and I don't know any. It seems like all the big ones from here are stupid in one way or another

>>16237561
I should rephrase my question. Why are motovloggers so fucking stupid?
>>
>>16237544
why should I get a bigger sprocket?
and maybe soon I'll produce completely new front with new fender and headlight

because if they were good riders and frequented popular tracks and roads they'd get enough attention by merit of their good riding

American public education is rubbish. Not everywhere else is the same. Some countries look after their citizens and provide quality healthcare and education for free. Somethings just aren't ment to be made into profit machines.

Buell should stop wanting to make bikes in America. Work for a sportbike company and leave management to people who don't hate sportbikes.

Except he wrote NOTHING racist, sexist, bigoted or phobic.

I don't care about stupid people dying either. Everybody dies but they volunteered! Too bad, so sad. but it's evolution at work thinning the herd.

>How much do you get if you crash, all the damage costs? If they "total" the bike (I understand they deem it unusable, destroyed) can you keep it for spare parts or rebuild it or it becomes the company's after they pay you?

You can negotiate and often do a buy-back, or ask to have it NOT "totaled" and be paid a bit less. Fix bike, retain clear title, all is well. Many totalled cars, bikes, and trucks are expensively damaged due to LABOR costs but not irreparably damaged and the distinction matters. It's expensive to match paint on new parts. It's very expensive to disassemble a motorcycle to perform a minor frame repair if the damage is not in a convenient spot. Perhaps you have cosmetic damage to an engine case or cylinder heat. You're entitled to what you paid for, but a replacement engine would total the machine.

There is a multi-billion dollar worldwide trade in used vehicles which includes all varieties of damage. Motorcycle salvages buy wrecks in bulk at auction and typically cannot sell titled frames, but there are plenty of perfectly good used parts in most wrecks unless destroyed by fire. Individuals can sell titled frames and part out bikes via Craigslist and Ebay, and dealers have ways to sell titled frames under their "private party" rights outside the dealer business. Anyone can buy clean titled vehicles of course.

If building bike they didn't previously own, dealer or individual buys vehicle with clean paper and damage at auction, then buys donor or used parts to repair. Result? A vehicle as good or bad as the person who built it for not much money.

If I'm not on it, please hit any of my vehicles if you have insurance.
