To who? A 350lb supersport tumbling down the highway is pretty easy to avoid. Incidences where a single-vehicle motorcycle crash harms other vehicles are extremely rare. The rider also tumbling? Usually flattened in short order. Wheelie crashes in particular involve rear-ending things because you have no brakes and limited visibility.

DR650 best 650. Tractor tough. Slowish, but easily modified. Yuuge aftermarket. All fasteners (or suitable replacements) can be found at any hardware store. Comfy suspension. Seat isn't horrible for up to an hour of slab. Everything is documented.

MRA Vario touring screen which no one seems to sell in North America outside eBay.
Vented screens like the Airflow work really well in my experience. My last bike had a madstad and while it didn't look great it was definitely worthwhile in fixing turbulence issues

Also is getting a correct exhaust gasket worth it or can I just rig something up to keep it from leaking? I'm not too fussed and an exhaust leak or 2 isnt going to damage me.

I really liked the old signals on each side 2bh.
You're right in thinking the left hand side is super busy with all the controls for the electronic aids and GPS shit.

One thing I do like though is that the high beam controls are on the backside so you only need to use your pointing finger to modulate it.

Interesting to that there would be another button also if you had the day light installed but that's also not available outside of yurop.

I took my Suzuki DR-Z400SM (with Dunlop Sportmax Q3 tires) off road tonight and it handled fantastically. It was a great time.
