Reposting because no answers yet;
I'm thinking of buying a little suzuki a100. they're pretty rare here in my country and it needs next to no work besides cosmetic. that said i would do a proper check over of it once i got it.

Anyone got any critiques or tips before buying that could help me buy or not buy it? Besides
>100cc
>enjoy slow m80

<what it could look like when fixed up
>>
>>16165475
Don't pay too much for it
It's old, maybe kinda rare for your country but it's not a breathtaking bike when it was made and it isn't now. Just convince the seller you want to use it to try a restoration and that it's more trouble for them to keep than to sell it.

Does anyone have experience with reupholstering a bike seat?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sANLPfZ9BSY

I'd like to find a material like this vinyl (maybe not doing all the panels like these guys do, my seat's not that contoured) but buying just a yard off the roll and having it shipped to Australia is gonna get pricey. Can anyone suggest an alternative, even if it's just a different brand of similar vinyl? Or a US store with reasonable shipping for a yard of fabric across the pacific?
>>
>>16165475
fine for city commuting otherwise this will annoy the shit out of you. I'd just restore and sell but don't expect a huge profit
>>
>>16165499
Can't you find any other roll of weatherproof material a bit closer?

I've been considering a ct110 for ages
not sure what I'd do with it desu, but I love the simple design

>>16165499
Generic black vinyl is obscenely common everywhere. Try: spotlight, clark rubber, motor/marine trimmers. I once had a bike with the seat trimmed in like a coarse canvas. Shit was comfy because it never got hot.
>>
>>16165555
I sent emails and made phone calls to a couple of distributors. Most didn't seem interested unless I wanted to buy a whole roll of thirty odd yards, which I half expected. and others just didn't get back to me. This stretch vinyl seems dead easy to use so It's kinda my first choice of what I do the job with.

>>16165568
Oh gee a canvas seat sounds nice actually. It gets very damp and rains a lot here though so I'd need to wax treat it, but could be nice for summertime. No spotlight or clark rubber near me but I could make the journey to look. Or maybe the marine trimmer in town would sell me a piece of off cut if i asked nicely.

Thanks both of you

It's not impulse buying if I have a legitimate reason to need a vehicle, right?
>>
>>16165687
It still is an impulse buy. Don't buy a bike because you fell that you have to have it right now. It should be something you purchase without any pressure to get it ASAP.

Or give it a week and really think about it. Just to make sure you are not rushing into a decision,

JAYSUS KROIST! What special supercomputer ECU is that??? If stock, give up the automotive hobby unless you are wealthy because whatever third world shithole you live in is insanely expensive. Alternate option, they saw you coming and knew they could go balls deep on the first date with Scotch Bonnet pepper sauce and broken glass for lube.

How much is labor and why is a shop changing out an ECU?

This is why I DIY. I've bought, parted then crushed Accords for less money and so has every other used car lot mech and many hobbyists in Burgerland.
>>
>>16165807
It's a new manufacture for a 21 year old car. I'll probably just buy a reman and replace it myself
>>
>>16165828
I've used plenty of old ECUs on old vehicles and have been wrenching since before EFI was a thing. . No need for a reman, and there is very little one can do to "remanufacture" an ECU other than cleaning it up.

Save your money and spend on manuals, tools and better deals on parts. You'll be able to afford many more toys. Most mechanics have more personal vehicles than they can get around to finishing. Toys don't usually get you tools, but tools will reliably get you toys.

I just finished my MSF course, and I've been looking for my first bike. I went to look at an 07 GS500F, but it was a piece of shit. I recently saw this bike, https://kansascity.craigslist.org/mcy/5839080891.html, a 1984 Honda VT500 Ascot. I've spoken with the guy who owns it and he claims he's kept up on the maintenance, and the price is in my ballpark. Does anyone know anything about this bike? Go for it/stay away etc.?

You just hool it up to the battery. But i like i said before it will discharge the battery, the best way is to connect it to the ignition switch.

Hey /dbt/, I just wanted to stop by and do my round of daily reminders. Someone has to keep you faggots in check

Daily reminders:

1. There is absolutely no reason to ride a supermoto. If you want street tires, ride a street bike. If you want off-road tires, ride a dirt bike. If you want the best of both worlds, just get a dual sport. Only retards ride supermotos.

2. Sport bikes are the only bikes worth owning. You are allowed to get other bikes, but only as an accessory to your primary sport bike. Sport bike tires offer a minimum width of 180 therefore offering the most traction and therefore being the safest type of motorcycle.

3. BMW makes the best motorcycles. They might not be very reliable, but they are the best when they work correctly.

4. GT-R>Corvette

Hey /o/ second level n00b here. Have had pic related for ~6 months. Tempted by ideas of a bike I learn shitty wheelies, ride generally wherever, hop curbs, drop and abuse. Basically did that with a scooter in asialand. DRZ400sm looks sweet, and I can tell it's a meme here, but how you anons really feel about it?

I love my bike, but the idea of customizing and generally being able to do more junk is tempting. Advice on DRZ or other bikes that fit the desired description?

I'm naturally a bit risky, so don't feel like it's in my best interest to get something too crazy fast. I've heard people say DRZs, groms, shit like that is a "blast" at all speeds. I'm also in a small city if that makes a difference

Please do not listen to the drz memery, they're fantastic bikes, built like tanks and a cheap easy way to get into dual sporting/supermoto's if that interests you. get one used, don't pay over 4k for a REALLY good condition one, have it inspected at a garage before buying or bring a mechanic friend. Honestly this really goes for any bike, but you said drz and I know first hand they're wondrous.

I don't think DRZ's are bad but I do believe in the meme tax (aka usually priced higher because they're popular)
>>16168790
depends on your area
I got a DR350 for $500 more, low miles and runs great. I've seen plenty of people get used dual sports for $1500 or less, usually pretty decent condition.
For something cheap from the 90's/early 2000's...look for KLR250, XT350, and DR350/650.
The first two are kickstart only and don't have much aftermarket. DR350SE has electric start and a strong following and pretty good aftermarket.

>>
>>16168830
>I'm kinda leaning away from dual sports because I like the idea of something lighter,
dual sports are pretty light...
DRZ is a tall ass bike, at least 320lbs
DR350SE = ~286lbs dry
KLR250 = ~260lbs dry
XT350 = ~265lbs dry
KLX250 = ~270lbs dry
CRF250L = ~320lbs dry
I'm 5'9, DR350 with lowering link and worn suspension is plenty low for flat feet, makes it cushy for road use
>>16168851
I've got a '97 (SE), great bike. '98 and '99 models have better suspension
You don't have to take it to a dealer if you can do basic inspection

that the best you can find around you? you can do better
go as new and low miles as you can get in your price range
imo you'll be happier in the long run with something newer...bigger following online, no chasing old parts, won't have to wrench it as often as an old bike
then again, it's hard to find a competent seller on cl who's thorough with maintenance

Ha no I didn't realize the distinction. I'm still new to all the terms and categories. I was leaning toward DSs initially, but don't like how big and bulky a lot of them seem. I looked at the DR650, but it didn't seem to be as well regarded as the DRZ. Plus I think I'm too small for it.

Yeah I hear the base level astars gloves tend to fall apart. I crash tested mine tho and they held up pretty well. I was putting a lot of weight on my hand as I slid and got a tiny little hole in my thumb but the palm held up pretty well. I still use them.

I started out with some Scorpion leather gloves which cost $80. Stitches started popping within a couple weeks and they had big holes within a year. At this point half of my palm is missing. Also they didn't hold up to a crash nearly as well. Just a small slide ripped right through the palm.

Explain how is he wrong. In a motorcycle on a road, the only person he can hurt is himself.

I understand going slow in the city, but on the road? Most accidents are caused by drunk driving and text driving, not speeding. It's retarded.
>>

>the only person he can hurt is himself.

Also a bike is not a feather, it will damage cars. You know what happens when a large animal hits the front of a car?
>>
>>16169576
The laws are there for ill-considered reasons that do not apply in all cases. More often than not, the reason is "we want more money". You enforce the consequences of your actions by cowtowing to self-described "authority".

>nigger
The nigger does not obey because he has no mind for consequences. The ubermensch does not obey because they understand the nature of consequences all too well.

And then you have the true untermensch, stuck in between. They know that consequences exist, but can't wrap their heads around them either being absolute and just, unjust and to be fought, or not being there at all. The idea of the arbitrary, the meaningless, the world without justice or injustice, it all sends them into a frenzy. Replace right and wrong with enforced or not, the whites flip out. Replace black and white with a pleasant shade of brown, the whites flip out. It's hilarious.

>>16169577

when you gain your license you agree to follow all road rules
you also acknowledge that you may be punished with fines or loss of license if you break those rules
driving isnt a freedumb. do you fags also protest to the cuckecheese attendants when they say "sir you must wear underwear while in the ball pit"??

children have a penchant for wisdom that tends to be beaten the fuck out of them by their stronger elders sometime down line

most adults who say such things never thought them until they were too big, too old, and too rich, to be beaten into the subservient lifestyle. or they're just psychopaths aka politicians.

Technically, everything is a freedom, but that includes the freedom to impede the freedom of others.

Whether or not you agreed to anything, the police would beat you up and hold you at gunpoint regardless. The state functions as a gang.

no. nature provides no real freedoms, freedom is a construct to keep us peasants in check. "i may not be able to actually own land but at least i can shoot empty beer cans with a pistol!!". same deal with 'equality'.

are sportbikes for fags? lets see

>naked/dirtbike riding position:
>legs slightly spread
>leaned back if you have long arms
>arms resting at mid level
>imposing and masculine
>same position you take holding a girl in for deepthroat

>sportbike riding position:
>legs spread
>ass up, torso down
>arms nearly level with head
>submissive and feminine
>like you're grabbing at the sheets while tyrone pounds you

>the reason pros ride dirtbikes and supermotos:
>because it's genuinely funner and develops skills better and more thoroughly
>the reason pros ride sportbikes:
>because it's a spectacle and crowd bring in money

>the reason non-pros ride sportbikes:
>to look fancier for other guys
>the reason girls buy nice purses, miatas, and expensive clothes
>to look fancier for guys

how does it feel to ride a machine that was made for the sole purpose of dancing on the edge all day in what would be a death race without armored and airbagged leather suits and modern helmets in a desperate bid to appease a crowd of spectators....at 65mph, where the only crowd watching you has blue flashing lights and guns?
