>>
>>70932640

Well, I'm currently torn between getting a set of 'true' single coils and shielding the hell out of my strat, or getting some noiseless single coils. Problem is I think the latter sacrifices too much tone, but neck and bridge are my favourite pick ups and damn does the hum get loud in my room. Any opinions?

The fact that
so many books still name The Beatles
John Frusciante used a bunch of SSL-1s has convinced me I can do the same without significant hum, but I don't know which way to go.

Shit, someone was paying attention.

No, unfortunately not. Got 2nd to a guy who could sing and play at the same time, as well as play other instruments. It was pretty much the only way I wouldn't've made the cut, and that they found a guy in this town that fit that bill and was available actually made me impressed. Maybe this shithole has some more hidden bosses than I thought.

At least the band I was already in got even better after we fired our old drummer. Now we have a jazz-based drummer who's super solid and is actually willing to learn new material, so we're booking more gigs and learning more songs.
>>
>>70932771

I know, but if I do that I'll buy some high quality pick ups. If I don't do it, I won't bother shielding and just throw some noiseless pick ups in there.

The thing is, I think my problem with single coils is rf interference. Like, if I play at certain places and hold my guitar at a very certain x, y, z position, I'll get minimal hum. I just don't know if I would be better off just getting noiseless pick ups and losing a bit of tone to ensure I get no hum, even with high gain amps etc.

This desu.

Had a guy come into the shop I work at with an Epi LP Junior. Scoffed when he said he wanted to put a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates into it. Told him it was worth more than the guitar, he didn't care.

A professional set-up and pickup swap later and it sounded like a USA-made guitar does. For about $150. Plays pretty decent, too.

Real-talk, the only thing that goes into a USA-made or high-end guitar is the setup. Tonewoods are myths, except maybe the neck has a bit to do with it. It's mostly pickups and your playing style.

However, a lot of labor goes into setting up a guitar properly. The thing that separates most imports from USA/luthier stuff is time and attention to detail. You don't get full fret dressings, well-crafted woods, and perfect setups in imports except by fluke.

However, the frugal option should always be to buy a cheap guitar with an EVEN neck (no humping/uneven sides) and decent enough frets and do a pup swap on it. It's the easiest way to get a nice-sounding and playing guitar.

Case in point, I've got a Peavey Limited Series EXP from Korea that I picked up for $60 used that just rips, even with the stock pups. Even neck, decent frets, and always has a lot of upgrade options with the HSS configuration. I prefer it to many higher end guitars I've held.

It just takes a keen eye and understanding of how guitars work to look for decent guitars.

I am trained in music theory and I’m the top virtuoso on ReverbNation Soundcloud. You are nothing to me but just another bedroom rocker. I will sweep-pick you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with playing that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, shoegazer. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of talent agents across the USA and your demo is being passed on right now so you better prepare for the squidlies, trogdor. The squidlies that wipe out the pathetic little thing you call your music career. You’re fucking uninspired, kid. I can jam anywhere, anytime, and I can solo in over seven hundred modes, and that’s just with my Gibson EDS-1275. Not only am I extensively trained in Frippertronics, but I have access to the entire discography of Guns N Roses, AC/DC, and the Rolling Stones and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” riff was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have turned down your fucking reverb. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shred fury all over you and you will drown in it. Your fucking headstock is broken, kiddo.

no clue why the hell i'm obsessed with nirvana after not giving a shit about them since like 9th grade. something about the melodicism and kurt's distain for any amount of technique is cool to me

anyway got my guitar professionally set up by this great shop this week and the way it plays now is just fantastic honestly. they set the action perfect and fixed the bridge and did other shit that i don't even understand, but it plays like a dream. worth the money if anyone is thinking about it.

although what was really worth it was the guy taking like an hour to walk me through all the stuff that he did, showing me the electronics and all that. it's just great that small shops with skilled techs still exist

I'm writing a metal instrumental. I've been listening to a lot of Revocation lately, and their weird sense of melody has been seeping in

I've kinda had a similar phase recently. I became much more sympathetic towards Kurt when I realized he was in constant physical pain from some stomach condition that was never properly diagnosed, which led to his heroin addiction and fucked-up depression. The music makes more sense and makes it more relatable than before.
>if anyone is thinking about it

>can't set up his own guitar

yeah that's true, i never really bothered with it. playing interests me way more. but the only reason i brought it in was because i was tinkering with it and fucked up the pickups so he helped me and i just thought i'd give him the work and let him do a full set up on it. it was worth it desu

>>70934711
>Glad you found a place where the guy actually showed you, too

yeah it was super unexpected because i just thought he would take it and give it back to me in a week or something, but he told me to come back with him and took it apart for me there. it was awesome as a layman to electronics to see how it actually works (simpler than i originally though honestly). i'm definitely going to give him as much work as i can

TFW I managed to intonate my guitar that has a floyd rose perfectly with just the right height on the action but I can't seem to intonate my fucking 4 string bass. Every time I think I have it right I play it and realize that I'm like 2 cents off on every string.

The other guitarist in my band uses a 6505mh. Even on 20 watts it sounds fizzy and lacks low end. For the longest time I assumed it was only because of his Line 6 4x12, but we tried it with my Mesa 4x12 a while ago and it still doesn't hold up to a regular 6505.

Rossiniana No1 by Mauro Giuliani.
Progress on this 15 minute song has been VERY slow the last 3 weeks.
I'm almost 3/4 through learning it.
I need to have it learned by the end of February so I can start on Rossiniana No2 for March/April and Rossiniana No3 by May/June. Ideally I'll be able to learn all 6 by this year.

All of these tunes sit at an average of 13 minutes, some a little longer.

I've seen roman reveal his power level a few times here and there, he knows way more than he lets on to. This is why his bait is always so alluring, when he takes a dig he's digging in deep and it really hurts
I've been in /gg/ since /gg/ started, when roman first showed up from /b/ he was trollish in nature but he did basically engage in discussion and was generally helpful. He changed into what he is now after the autists in /gg/ decided it was a good idea to dox him. The problem always was that they couldn't ignore him, just like it is now. Since the beginning /gg/ has always been too thick to understand that they don't have to reply, that no one is forcing them to respond. Why that is I don't know
/gg/ isn't the way it is because of roman, roman is the way he is because of /gg/

I use The Amazing Slow Downer, but I'm sure there are other programs that do it. In YouTube videos, you can click the gear icon and select as low as 50% speed keeping the pitch the same.

Why is there a new thread before this one reached bump limit?
>>
What the fuck happened to /gg/?

Where is the silver burst tele dude?
Where is old SG dude?
Where is the dude with a ridiculous amount of gear and the aluminum guitars?
Where's the dude with the striped orange mustang?
Where's the dude with the Rickenbacker?

Holy fuck I guess /GG/ is back to where it was a few years ago when nobody even posted. I guess you faggots pushed them all away.

Also the big muff is the best pedal ever made.

Redpill me on electro-acoustic guitars.

I am thinking of replacing my Ibanez RG for one of those guitars. This will be for occasional homerecording and very casual homeplaying.
>>
I found a pretty nice chord progression/melody but I'm pretty sure I subconsciously ripped it off from something but I have no idea what, please help
