You should be able to find a Peavey Valve King for somewhere near $300-350, or maybe a Laney Cub, or maybe a Fender Super Champ X2, otherwise you're going into SS territory, which is fine too. I'm not really a tube snob, the Fender Mustang 3 II is good too.

The Strat is one of my favourite gits ever, contending for the number one spot, but this "American Professional" and "American Elite" shit breaks my heart a bit. I really preferred the prior naming conventions of American Standard (why the change?) and American Deluxe.

>>70941633
I have the same aversion to HSS Strats but that's because I use Les Pauls or Custom 24s to fit my humbuckers and consider a Stratocaster the one and only true home of a single coil pickup. There's so many to choose from that I'd go aftermarket before I ever put a humbucker in there. I love SCs, a lot.

HSS strats are the best strats. You get that lovely neck puckup tone (think SRV) and then an actual usable bridge pickup. The bridge on a Tele is great because it is nice and powerful but I find the standard Strat ones to be a bit anaemic. Mine is the most versatile guitar I own

Well, I did meddle with someone's instrument without asking permission but there's no one in the world who could complain about playing a properly set up guitar instead of a fucked up one.
The boost pot was so loose the only thing keeping it in place was the wiring inside the body.
Gotta love those Ibanez basses tho, they're ugly as sin but light and very comfortable to play.

Your friend is lucky to have you.

However even if you intend on recording in a few days, you should still put new strings on the day of recording. 90% of bass sound is in the fresh clank that strings make, and that shit wears off super fast.

Lol. I missed that. I just uploaded an old picture I had. Apparently I had broken a string.
>>
>>70945509
According to Gibson,

>There are two main reasons some players prefer this method. For starters, it provides a shallower break angle over the bridge saddle, since the strings pass from the top of the bridge instead of halfway through it, and many players report that their strings feel slinkier as a result. Secondly (and perhaps most importantly for most guitarists) this allows you to screw the tailpiece all the way down against the body, which many players feel gives the guitar more sustain and fullness. Zakk Wylde is another famous top-wrapper.

Joe Bonamassa's tech string's them this way too, and uses extra ball ends that he's saved from old strings to alleviate some of the tension created by wrapping the string around the bridge:

>which many players feel gives the guitar more sustain and fullness

Ask Me What's Wrong with the Gibson Les Paul Neck

Question: Is the headstock angle designed wrong?
Answer: YES:

Question: Is the guitar too heavy?
Answer: Definitely YES:

Question: Is the weight distribution incorrect?
Answer: Definitely YES:

Question: Is the case poorly designed?
Answer: Yes most of the time, depending on the year.

Question: If they put a volute on the neck would that solve the problem?
Answer: Maybe, It would definitely be a step in the right direction.

Question: Why doesn't Gibson put a volute in the neck.
Answer: Don't know the answer, it would seem to be a clear admission of guilt.
If they actually finally fixed the original design.

Question: Is mahogany a good choice for a neck wood?
Answer: Most luthiers prefer hard rock maple on electrics.

Question: Is the guitar poorly designed?
Answer: In Ed Roman's opinion the guitar is not designed at all. It's nothing more than an exact copy of an old 1930's era Jazzbox made smaller & solid. If you look at any Les Paul neck joint it's obvious that it's the same joint that they use on the ES 175 !!

i play in a cover band and i'm sick of it. the singer constantly ruins songs because the dumb fuck can't remember structure, and the music they want to cover is so unbelievably cheesy that it makes me want to cringe. i'm only playing with them because it's decent money, but i do not enjoy it one single bit.

i just tried out for another band and i'll probably be joining them, i've already filled in for them a few times when their guitarist was sick and they like how i play. they actually play music i enjoy playing and they get gigs.

I'm learning the 12 Bar Blues and I have a question. If a player is doing the "shuffle" sound (i.e. adding the pinky on and off which should be the 6th note of the scale) can another player just hit the dominant 7th chord of that bar on beats 2 & 4?
>>
>>70946700
>If you can get more gigs and actually play the shit you wanna play go for it

yea that's what i plan on doing. i'll probably stick around the cheesy band too just for the money. i can't just take off and quit on them because because despite the music, they are very nice people and i agreed to play with them. i doubt anyone around here would even want to play the shit they want to play anyway so if i quit the whole thing would be over.
>>
>>70946836
>adding the pinky on and off which should be the 6th note of the scale
That's called a boogie.
>>
>>70946867
on piano its a boogie, on guitar it's a shuffle or a 'chunka chunka'

You be nice to actually make some money playing. My problem is I need to network better so I can find people who like the same stuff I do.

Best of luck m9.
>>
>>70947033
Yeah well I'm dumb I guess because I just think about these things intuitively and apparently a boogie is considered a rhythm too. I always just associated it with that adding the pinky on the 6th Great Balls of Fire thing. So a boogie is a kind of shuffle.
>>
>>70945230
longer string length makes the strings lower tension so youcan bend easier

most people top wrap the high three strings and go regular with the bass strings so those don't get all floppy and you still have good bass response

jazz is complex in the way that chord substitutions in jazz standards are used to create voicing
which is where the "jazz guitarists play 1000 chords in front of 3 people..." saying comes from
also lead guitar you have to find the key blah blah blah

the theory and practical ability barriers are both very high to be a good jazz guitarist
i can't really think of any other guitar genre that genuinely requires the theory, as opposed to just learning the song

it applies to improvisational genres, but most genres aren't inherently improvisational. among genres that are, none have even close to the complexity of a jazz standard.

blues is literally just I-IV-V and you can use the pentatonic/blues scale the entire time and sound fine when doing it. some artists make it their entire career just using that scale. sure, you can mix it up and use modes and more complex scales, but it's inherently simpler

the scales and chords required to play at an average level in jazz is way higher, that's my point
