Also, pretty much any band on Epitaph Records in the 1990s, loved the Punk-O-Rama compilations and similar to Rancid introduced me to some bands of their ilk back in the day.

What about an Audio-Technica LP60 and a set of AudioEngine A2s? That's an amazing starter kit, don't let anyone sway you otherwise. In-too-deep vinyl weirdos will come out of the woodwork any moment now and tell you that if you aren't spending at least $200 bucks on a stereo receiver, you might as well be cutting your records up with a steak knife.

If you could go north pricewise and get an Audio-Technica LP120 and a set of AudioEngine A5+ speakers, you might be set for the rest of your life.

I'm serious about not listening to the creeps who will naysay anything that's sub-3000 USD.

BTW I'm not a shill for Audio-Technica, but I am the most familiar with their line. I hear nice things about Pro-Jects and Regas, but I hate the way they look. But those are certainly respectable.

If all else fails, a Crosley is still a good way to find out if you want to keep getting into vinyl. But personally I recommend the ATLP60 and the AudioEngine A2s as a starting point, because if you start with a Crosley you'll have to start from scratch if you want to get more into it. You can't upgrade a Crosley.
