Does anyone legitimately get a self esteem boost from their eclectic and esoteric taste in music?

Sometimes I just look at my 4.5's and 5's on Rate Your Music and think about how good my taste is. I'm really proud of my taste and all of the great obscure music I've discovered.

Sometimes when my friends come over, I'll have my laptop hooked up to my TV with my RYM profile opened at my rating curve. Knowing they see that I've listened to thousands of albums actually makes me feel so good about myself.

Of course I enjoy the music, it wouldn't be a hobby if I didn't, but goddamn do I feel great about being a pretentious cunt.

I'm not kidding, is anyone else this much of a douchebag too? Does your music knowledge/cred get you off as much as mine does?

I'm sure most of you guys are the "music guru" in your circle of friends. So tell me, does it make you feel good?

Let me preface with a usually irrelavant disclosure: I'm black.

I know my ilk have the nonsensical defensive nature when it comes to "cultural appropriation" and "culture vultures". I know it's dumb and Im not going to waste your time and my time defending it, but this time I feel it's warranted and want to see if I have any racial bias or not.

I'm sure it's not all that surprising to you all that Im a fan of hiphop. I grew up in the south so I naturally I have a penchant for southern hiphop. Within the south, particularly Florida, a movement of which I'm sure some of you know about came about around 2011-12 called the "memphis rap revival". It was spearheaded by SpaceGhostPurpp and his collective Raider Klan (Denzel Curry was a member)

It was widely popular and another popular act that blew up in that scene was Lil Ugly Mane, who gets posted here all the time.

Most of those guys were considered the "first wave" of acts within that scene, long story short most of them went on to different sonic directions and some just stopped making music entirely.

I personally didn't have much reservations between the first wave of artists, they all took the memphis influences in, but they all had something interesting to add to the mix.

But there is this extremely popular act called $uicideboy$ that I can't fucking stand. If there was ever an approipate time to label someone a culture vulture it would be them and their entire shitty fucking label.

Their entire aestethic revolves around this "sinister/horror inspired" theme that's nothing more than empty posturing.

They entire shtick revolves around reappropriating pre-established music from a region and era

There are 2 main camps of music appreciation today, each camp of music represents a hemisphere of the brain.

You have progressive music lovers (left brain) who tend to favor complexity over emotion. They favor technical prowess over melody. Bands like Rush, Dream Theater, Joe Satriani, Jaco Pastorius, Yingve Malmsteen, Stu Hamm, Victor Wooten, 'progressive rock', 'progressive jazz', or 'new age' or 'opera rock', 'neo classical', etc. The "emotion" you get when listening to it is generally "Wow, thats really hard to play, I wish I could play that" but not much else. So the progressive music tends to walk a logical path and attracts those types of people that appreciate the "show off" emotion.

The other type of music lover is the typical right brain music lover. They favor emotion over logic. They love a good melody, a good hook , a good rhyme. The words dont make sense? so what, even better! They might like pop music and they might like Pink Floyd. They might like country music. They might like rock n roll. This is the bulk of music lovers today. Love songs speak to most of us. Where as the progressive music fans find love songs boring, like a sociopath would.

tl;dr - only autists and sociopaths (jews) like progressive music.
