Depeche Mode - The Rumour / Blasphemous Rumours
- recorded in 1984
- extended 08:01 min version
- silence @ 02:13 min followed by chimes right till 03:04 min when the verses jumps right back
- track @ 06:29 min: repeated sniffing sounds
[Verse]
I don't want to start any blasphemous rumours
But I think that God's got a sick sense of humour
And when I die I expect to find Him laughing
The verses to "Blasphemous Rumours" describe a 16-year-old girl who attempts suicide but fails. She experiences a religious revival but is killed in a car accident aged 18 and dies. The chorus uses these incidents to conclude, "I don't want to start any blasphemous rumours / but I think that God's got a sick sense of humour / and when I die, I expect to find him laughing." Like other songs on Some Great Reward, the song uses a dense sound with extensive sampled percussion.

Martin Gore tells WLIR in 1986:
"[Blasphemous Rumours] was mainly inspired from the early days of the band or even before the band got started, when Andy and Vince were regular churchgoers, and I just used to go along because they were my friends. I just thought it was quite interesting. I was never a practicing Christian, although they were. And when you're not involved in it, I think you really notice the hypocrisy and just the funny side to things. One thing I often quoted is this thing called the "prayer list": every week they would sit and pray for people who were seriously ill, and you could guarantee that most of them, the majority of the people who they prayed for, would die. But they took that as, like, being very, very positive, that was "God's will" and "They've gone to somewhere better". And it's just, when you're not part of it, it just seems very ridiculous, very funny. I know a lot of people out there are not gonna agree with me."

You make metal, Varg. You complain about shitskins and then work in a genre of music created by black people and marketed to 12 year old white suburban teens
>>74409552
>metal
>created by blacks
and no, metal isn't rock just as rock isn't country or rnb

Looking at his post-Pixies career, I'm beginning to think Frank Black had much less to do with their greatness than Kim. How can he have turned to shit so quick? I love everything the Pixies did in their original run, and his first solo album was very solid, but even by Teenager of the Year he was beginning to churn out turgid buttrock. His stuff with the Catholics was mediocre, his sol music form this century ranges from mediocre to downright shit, and he had the worst feature on Dark Night of The Soul. He's gone from having one of the most existing voices in rock music to his timbre actively making every song worse with its presence. Pic related is a genuine embarrassment outside a couple of tracks, and Head Carrier is less atrocious but even more boring. Meanwhile The Breeders remained constantly good throughout the years, although now Kim's decided to stop making music and just smoke weed with her sister living off royalties.

80s and 90s ended
Kim left
Breeders have never been good
I also love everything from their original run
They are as good as Alice in Chains or Pearl jam right now. All of them are completely different bands from their originals and they will never be good but merely reminders that such bands existed once.

Head Carrier is not that bad honestly, I had way worse expectations for this.

Vaporwave is a talentless genre consisting of underage Ariel Pink ripoffs who weren't even alive in the 80's / 90's and don't know how to operate cassette recorders so they hope nobody notices they use ableton and fl studio
In fact, every vaporwave listener I've met has been a teenager who uses Spotify

WOW youre so fuckin cool you hate the two most popular and widely used DAWs as well as the most accessible and popular music streaming service.
I hope one day I can hate myself as much as you so I can actually believe such garbage fucking opinions.
