I like warhammer 40k, but there are so many books by different authors that it's hard to tell what series are worth reading and what should be skipped. What should I read? What should be considered essential reads for 40k buffs? Also, are there any other series that share the grimdark-fantasy-science fiction themes of 40k? I await your recommendations.

If you're already familiar with the setting, the Horus Heresy books are good for getting the ball rolling.
Wow, way to make him feel welcome you elitist fucks.

Honestly anything Dan Abnett is worth reading. Try eisenhorn or horus rising, I enjoyed both immensely.
I always figured /lit/ was full of pseudo-intellectual tryhard faggots but boy did it exceed my expectations. I guess anything that's not fucking The Great Gatsby is too pedestrian for your superior intellect :^)
40k has some great lore Op. You don't have to read about the Horus Heresy, just pick a chapter of marines or chaos you are interested in and there is most likely something to read.
I too would be interested in finding out if there are books with a similar theme/setting as 40k. I havn't yet found anything with quite the same mix of grimdark gothic style sci-fi.

>big gatsby is patrish
it's really not

Regardless, my point was still that /lit/ is full of faggots that circlejerk about the old classics while shoving out anything that doesn't fit with their retarded standards. I hardly ever see anything fantasy related get discussed here though there are some excellent examples besides Tolkien and Jordan. This place is depressing.

There is a scifi-fantasy general where there are barely any outside trolls. Spamming threads about ready player one destroys the quality of this board.
I enjoy a good summer fantasy read too, but I dont convince myself its good or high literature, just like I dont pretend that reading vanity fair is equal to pessoa

i wouldnt consider them essential reading but the night lord series (soul hunter, blood reaver, void stalker) by Aaron Dembski-Bowden are fantastic
