I was looking forward to reading it, got about 30 pages in and then stopped caring.

why ?
Man how do you guys do it?
I recently got bored and lurked around for a bit here, I saw a thread on dystopian books and decided to get myself a copy of Fahrenheit 451, a book about book burning and I sat down a read for a bit, after about 2 minutes I put the book down and went on my phone. How the heck do I get a really get into a book?
How do I really get into a book*
I forgot to proof read
My phone actually helps me to read
>read 20 pages
>feel tired
>come to 4chan
>rest my brain
>/lit/ is slow and I've seen all
>repeat
turn it off and put it in the other room. although a benefit of the book format is you can stop and let your mind wander whenever you want.
Any books, articles on mechanics of humour, joke semiotics? What is there, besides the setup and the punchline, that succesful comedians have at their disposal?

Hello, /lit/.
You guys have been somewhat successful at clarifying some elliptical things in books.
I am currently writing the script for a movie adaptation of The Book Of The New Sun. If you've read it can you post some comments/suggestions/understanding of the mythology.
For anyone interestedThecla will be played by an actress wearing Severians cloak when appropriate. There will probably not be a white fountain. The beginning scene is of Father Inire showing the girls his mirrors.
>Movie adaptation
>Not getting a show approved by HBO with a budget the size of Game of Thrones and proper time to tell the story
It's going to suck and you will piss off fans. Don't do it.
>>7507541
Fun fact: HBO is releasing a show called Westworld and already has Game of Thrones leaving the New Sun series 'not viable'. To be fair, I am excited for both of those. The way the script is going now, it has a very clear arc that can be done in one movie. I hope you will be optimistic.
I will check back in maybe an hour or so if this thread isn't relegated to the trash, but for whomever might be curious some fun facts:triskele is of course in.
the play is not in the film, quotes from it are used to introduce the seperate chapters. Jonas is explicitly korean. severian dies several times.

I've read about modal ontological arguments for the existence of God, and it seems some atheists think that the same sort of argument can be used to argue the non-existence of God:
1. If God exists, God is necessary.
2. It is possibly the case that God doesn't exist.
3. Therefore God is not necessary.
4. Therefore God doesn't exist (modus tollens, from 1)
So /lit/, what's wrong with this argument?
>>7509866
it's not literature

There is plenty of literature on this subject.

the little inspiration i do have comes from guilt and shame

For everyone who doesn't "get" Infinite Jest, there's a reason. I implore you to read The Pale King first. It's much less tedious and a quicker read, and it truly explains his writing style and thought process. In fact I'm surprised that The Pale King isn't even mentioned on this board- it's such a pivotal work preceding Infinite Jest and really the Metamodernist movement, it should gain more momentum here.
>>7509391
>The Pale King
>preceding Infinite Jest
I Like TPK, mind you; but did you make an error here, or are you referring to something other than writing/publication order?
>>7509404
Let me clarify. IJ was published before TPK, but in terms of comprehension and accessibility, I recommend reading Pale King first.

I'm working on a novel, and found these books interesting, as they are really short novels, and I'm at 13k words about halfway through my work.
Both works are less than 50k words, and wouldn't have even qualified for nanowrito.
Chuck also says that Fight Club is his retelling of Gatsby, so wanted to reread both one after the other to see if I got that vibe.
Also interested in that minimalist style Chuck was obsessed with early on

If you do it out of aesthetic necessity then ya sure knock yourself out.

Another question would be: "How is he not worth reading?".

A proposition might be: "Ezra Pound may or may not be worth reading."
.
Is this a literal meme book?
I mean seriously, the only people I know who discuss it is /lit/, and even then people just make jokes about it. It has no serious criticism about it has won no worthy awards, and has no admiration from important literary figures at all.
