Anyone here run into this? I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself. They can't possibly be making much of anything doing this. Did good morning America run some show about how books are worth money, or is the economy really getting that bad?
Did pick out a copy of an idiot abroad despite all that, but god damn, sucked the fun right of of me seeing that.

Hello guys;
I'm looking for authors that write in french (it doesn't matter if it's the joual québécois, créole or the ol' regular french) that are similar to the american transcendentalists or the higher consciousness of Alan Watts.
I've tried to search french authors that were influenced by Lao-Tze or zen buddhism but couldn't find anyone. In my university they pointed Germaine de Staël, Benjamin Constant, François-René de Chateaubriand and Alphonse de Lamartine, but they were all distant from the american movement by a romantic thought that approached nature and philosophy in a more superficial way and would prefere social motifs than individualist ones.
English is my third language so I'm sorry for any mistake I can possibly commit in this search, thank you all very much for your time.

I don't know how can you talk about Nietzsche, Homer or Shakespeare as if they were sudoku puzzles. Do you even think about the gravity and implications for your own life as you read? Or do you just finish the book and file it away as another "patrish" reference to throw around?

It's a story that takes you on the full tour. The confusion, the shyness, the guilt, the excitement, the shame, the self loathing - and they come through it all to create something so perfect. They're so lucky to have found each other. The two boys start the story as half-formed people who help each other to grow and discover themselves until they're complete and can come together for a brief blissful moment.
And all the while there's an everpresent sense of dread becuase inevitably the same naive idealism that allowed them to be so perfect for each other will be their doom. The Easter Rising is remembered now as a glorious failure that paved the way to freedom but it wasn't that at the time. There was no glory or freedom in 1916, only pain and loss. When the story ends in the way it always had to it's two lives that were cut short not one, Ireland's eventual fate offers no consolation because the boys weren't really fighting for their country, they were fighting for each other.
