I am uncultured and dumb. Which books should I read to slowly start bettering myself ? I've seen /lit/ starting guides, but I think they lack works that would help me get a better general culture before tackling more serious literature.

How do I become a genius writer and join the canon?
Pls spoonfed me.
Read The Artist's Way and do all the exercises. You'll literally become a vessel of pure creativity, possibly from God.
Shoot lower, you're never going to be a genius
Get a life, then write about said life.

How do you feel about this?
I live in the fifth biggest city in Finland (small by most standards), and we have 23 public libraries all over the city.

Nordic nations seem to be quite literate for some reason. Apparently one out of ten people from Iceland publishes a book in their lifetime.
Dunno, maybe has something to do with it being cold and people staying inside to read books. All we here in Germany notice of the Scandinavian book culture is Astrid Lindgren, Sven Nordqwist, and that endless stream of shitty formulaic thrillers with an ominous object on an otherwise black cover with titles like "Murderer in the Darkness" or "Shadow of Blood" or "Knife Lady" that are written by all those people that are named Adler Johannson or something similar. I know, not exactly finish, but that's all I had to add to this thread.
So guys, I've finally finished /lit/'s trilogy
>IJ
Cool book, nothing really amazing about it, really winded on some parts and a lot of boring passages. I found some of the concepts and characters really good tho, also the bizarre bits were really fun to read and have some good memorable moments
>GR
This was the book I've understanded the least of those 3. Still some amazing passages like Pokler storyline, the whole chapter 4 and the vicerous Katje and Gottfried bit. Anyway I've found Mason & Dixon to be way better than this, probably because it was easier for me, maybe on my second read this will change.
>Ulysses
Easily the best of the three for me, most of the chapters were very interesting, beautiful, moving, luxurious, engaging, sometimes it was very boring but the best parts easily overcome this "problem". Sadly most of the beauty of the chapter oxen of the sun is lost in translation
thanks for reading my blog
Im getting really sick of these ESL cucks reading translations. You fucks obviously know English so read it in English or gtfo
>>7792532
whats the problem with translations? My english isn't good enough to fully understand Joyce, so I prefer to read in my language a books that was translated by someone that knows the language and the author way better than me
don't you read translations? don't you read Dante? Virgil? Homer? Proust? Tolstoy? Saramago? Kawabata? Rosa?
one day I will understand why translations triggers /lit/ so much
>>7792532
This. If you can shitpost in English don't be a faggot by reading translations of English books. Translations are for people who can't read the original language.

Write what's on your mind.
The sun is setting and with it will come that hazy dreamy feeling of night. I am contemplating whether I should go play bass guitar or read

It just wasn't supposed to be like this.
I have recently been exposed to the concept of antinatalism and well, it doesn't sit right with me. But that is about all I have. I cannot find a rational argument against it and on the internet at least it usually seems like the antinatalist is trying to engage other people in thoughtful discussion but they just insist he is depressed and that he should kill himself. If anything that kind of knee-jerk reaction just pushes me further into this philosophy of total cynicism. So I am asking here what are some actual logical moral arguments against antinatalism? Why is it wrong?
read better to have never been or whatever the fuck it's called
then kill yourself lol idk
>>7801720
Anti-natalism denies the creation of its greatest jewels: human beings. That alone BTFO the entire concept of anti-natalism.

this is the kind of shit I am talking about.

Objetivism or relativism?
Ayn Rand was an idiot.
I chose subjectivism.
Objetivism is a joke.
Hey /lit/, have the critique threads improved your writing?
I get that there's a lot of talk about how the writing posted is shit and the critique is even worse. However, do you think there's something to be gained from analyzing poor-quality writing or poorly-constructed critique for the sake of improving your own writing?
Sometimes I feel like I learn how to write better from seeing what doesn't work than what does (i.e. reading canonical literature).
>>7800800
No critique threads are terrible. Most of the "critics" are themselves awful writers and, much of the time, the dumbest anons on this board. I've posted various sections from Ulysses, The Recognitions, and poems by Pound and Crane, and they call it pretentious or nonsensical.
everyone knows they're all shit, but i still post in them from time to time
I just use them because it's the only place I can post my English writings and hope to get some kind of feedback - and every once in a while you stumble on something amazing, like that Portuguese dude who was translating his (already published) poem-ish thing. He was incredible.
